id did some more testing, and I finally found that setting
$NO_FOOTNODE=2
does the trick

the little bug wrt frame-handling outlined in my previous mail, is
caused by a an empty frameset definition in the *_mn.html file, which
looks e.g., like
this line is even there, if one sets
$NO_FOOTNODE = 1;

I've downloaded the latest l2h (not cvs) from the repository.
Running this release on an already existing document, shows that a
the top-frame (i.e., the one with the buttons), is repeated at the
bottom of the page.

but my pnmcrop does not recognize this parameter and exits. It may be
caused by my version of netpbm, but I guess that it's a good idea to
leave this `verbose' option in releases--at least for compatibility
reasons. (
