Okay, I just posted the tarball for Kernel 2.2.18 for 486 processors. It
includes all the USB modules, mostly because, as was pointed out to me,
there are USB adapter cards and a small fraction of later 486s came with a
PCI slot or two. It's available at:

Thanks for compiling the new kernel. It works nicely (so far) on my LRP
2.9.8 box, though I did need to replace at least some of the original
2.2.16 modules with your versions; I'm not using any of the other new
modules.
