Well.
We had some success in doing so, on a Bering 1.1-stable
the steps, more or less, are the following:
1) verify that the BIOS of the PC allows startup usong USB
~ (usually USB disk)
2) you must include in initrd.lrp some modules:
~ scsi_mod

I made a package called cfprotec to remove the modules from a uClibc box
that boots on a Compact Flash.
There is no start up script - it just installs two scripts that can be
run manually or perhaps run from profile.
One script removes the modules for accessing the compact flash -

http://shorewall.net the current stable release is v2.2.2.

to use and test the latest and greatest.
Note that shorewall 2.0.15 has been released in January - so it's not
that old one might think looking only at the version numbers.
