Hi all, I had a bit of trouble getting Bering to connect to optusnet dsl via pppoe over my Netcomm NB1300+4 so I thought I would post this information on how I got it to work (well, I should say "How I worked around this problem"), just incase someone else wants to do it one day and can not figure out how...
Basically, what I had to do was set the modem to PPP Half Bridge, which made the modem do the connection and authentication instead of having bering do it. I'm not sure why I could not get PPPOE to work correctly, I suspect it has something to do with the fact that optusnet do not support pap authentication but I do not know bering that well to be able to find out, and besides it works just fine the way I have it set up so I'm not all that inclined to find out. If anyone knows off the top of their head, please don't hesitate to let me know.... ** Install Leaf-Bering as per Install Manual (or as usual) After setting up your network card modules: 2. Set your interface eth0 to Dynamic DHCP/Pump 3. Setup DHCPCD to use the ISP Peer DNS, HostName and Domain, Backup etc and DHCPCD 4. Log into the Netcomm Modem/Router and enter your connection details (username, password VPI VRI etc) then under the Misc. Menu set the ppp half bridge option to True. Submit, Flash and Reboot. 5. Reboot Bering Bering should now be assigned your public IP Address and Hostname... P.s Don't forget to customise your shorewall rules! As using your NB1300(+4) as a PPP Half Bridge exposes your computer directly to the Internet (removes NAT Functionality, assigns the Public IP to your PC etc) P.P.s This also works with Telstra BigPond Direct DSL. But I was unable to obtain the Hostname or Domain Information via DHCP. I had to set them manually ((It might have been a config error on my part, it works ok if you do not want to enter these details)) ~jay ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email sponsored by Black Hat Briefings & Training.
