To back up Tom Eastep's remarks.
I run LEAF Bering , currently at uClibc 2.3, and have had ssh dictionary attacks just about every day for the last 2 years. I also use ssh port forwarding to an internal client, using RSA keys to stop successful attacks and have never yet been cracked. I sometimes amuse myself by looking at the logs.
