gets me:
HDIO set dma failed: operation not permitted
It's a PIII machine with i810 and ICH (82801AA)
Anybody have any idea what's

Maybe your chipset needs a linux driver for DMA? If that's true, you
can
add the driver to the moddb and enable it in /etc/modules.
