I actually solved this.
I copied the sub routine format_amount from form.pl SQL-Ledger (last
version) into the LedgerSMB form.pl.
I'm not sure this is legal but now it works.

For example I want to put in a Sales Order:
1. click on Order Entry and Sales Order
2. select the Customer
3. click in the field Number and fill in a partial number (example soft
instead of software)

This format choice doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The English
add commas to separate sets of 3 zeros.
IE:
1 thousand = 1,000 or
