PETE CASS (1962 - 2011) Rest In Peace Mate

[LU] Pete Cass (1962-2011) RIP

2011-10-16 Thread John Boocock
The sad news about Pete comes after we were all breathing a sigh of
relief when we heard that he was confident about his treatment in
Boston. It really shook me when I read Vern's message this morning.
Paul and others had also kindly been in touch, but it was the list that
had alerted me to Pete's passing.

Pete's acerbic style (you are talking shite Eric) his critique of our
team based on his own involvement in the game (the Football Federation
of Victoria will really miss him) and the way he fitted in with some of
the more off topic discussions (Pete was a techie of the first order)
mean that he will be sadly missed here as well as on a number of other
Leeds United related internet sites.

We can only try to imagine how devastated Pete's wife, Joy and the girls
Maddie and Gemma are feeling. I'm sure they are in all our thoughts this
morning.

Other lists and message boards involved in WorldNET and the Internet
Football mob have marked the passing of one of their number by having a
trophy named after the person they have lost and presented at the annual
event. I'll check with Pete's family and I'll talk to the other IFA
organisers to suggest that the Leeds List would like to present a Trophy
annually at WorldNET to commemorate Pete.

It's the least we could do for the lad.

Further down the road, Pete.

Re: [LU] Moribund!

2011-10-16 Thread DAVID NATTAN
Change of opinion eh Rob ?After Portsmouth when some of us were praising the
'new back four' you said we were all know nothings and were jumping the gun.
Now you are agreeing with what we said that they deserved another outing. For me
O'Dea since he was moved to centre back has been a bit of an unsung hero - he
gets a lot of undeserved stick, some of it quite vitriolic. I reckon he is the
sort of player for whom the overused phrase 'does a job' was invented for. Yes
he has faults, especially as regards lack of pace / turning circle of a tanker
BUT overall he does a good steady job and can improve as his partnership with
Lees (and Lonergan) continues to gel.
I too loved seeing Saunders and his after match comments had me laughing out
loud. I was a bit surprised how Sky seemed to make it all about Saunders - in
fact me and my lad turned it into a drinking game where we had to take a large
swig of beer every time he was shown on screen ( i was pretty drunk by end of
game)
I agree that is is good to see that we are now looking dangerous when we take
corners rather than just when we defend them !
Overall another good performance - Ok they are not very good but nor are the
majority of teams in our league !!
Dave
PS I would like to add my condolences to Pete's family - a sad time RIP

That's terrible, terrible news. I never met the bloke but helped him out a bit

after his treatment.

This is a very sad day for the list. Can't believe it. My thoughts are with his

 Hello?!

Don't know if any of you noticed..you were probably too busy
burbling on about your pathetic little electronic toys or fawning over MDM's
latest bon motbut that football team which we purport to
follow played a game the other day.

The View From The Smoking Lounge (ie the Sports bar at the Ramada Hotel in
Doha, where astonishingly, people are allowed to smoke! And they do!) was
that it was a strange game in that we didn't play that well, but scored at
good times and were extremely comfortable winners in the end. It was great
fun watching Saunders face get glummer and glummer as the game progressed.

 Scores:

Lonergan 5Didn't have much to do, but stupidly dropped a simple ball
near the end, resulting in him having to throw himself at the feet of
someone and thereby dislocating his finger.

Connolly5 Seems suspect in the air when he has to cover the back post
from deep crosses from our left. Overlapped well, though.

LEES 9 Solid composed and creative at the back, and added a good goal
(simply ignoring Naylor, who was grabbing his shirt and trying to wrestle
him, to jump and thump the ball home.)

O'Dae 8 Same as Lees sans the goal. Have we found a pairing?

White 8 Combative and committed at the back got forward well a few
 times

Snods7 Two dead ball assists and a lot of hard work, but still lacking
 his spark

Howson 7 Worked very hard without the ball, and just kept things ticking
over with simple balls when he got it.

Clayton 6 As above, except he tried a few Steven Gerrard passes

Pugh 7 Typical solid, no-frills no mistakes contribution + another goal

Keogh 7 Classy performance.mobile, good touch, good
awarenessjust a shame that ball at the end just would not sit enough
for him to keep it down.

McC8 As above plus a brilliantly taken goal.

Overall, two clean sheets in a row! Soon Bates will have enough to put on
the beds in his new hotel. Also.how nice that we have started
scoring from corners (3 in the last two games..yes, I know
Pugh's goal on Friday was from a freekick, but it was to all intents and
purposes a corner).after conceding dozens of goals from dead
balls over the last few years.

That way - when he won the header (as he would be more than likely to
