Land rights and sovereignty will be the theme of key Aboriginal activists speaking at a major public meeting in Melbourne next month. Monica Morgan of the Yorta Yorta Nation in Victoria/NSW, Murrandoo Yanner from Queensland, Michael Mansell from Tasmania, and Marjorie Thorpe and Margaret Gardiner from Victoria will speak at "Speak Loud for Land Justice" on Thursday, December 9. The meeting will take place at Storey Hall, RMIT, Swanston St, city, starting with entertainment by Lou Bennett at 7pm. Entry by gold coin donation. The meeting has been dedicated to the late Ron Castan QC, who led a number of key native title legal fights. Lawyer Bryan Keon-Cohen and UN activist Michael Gorton will also speak. Victorian Trades Hall secretary Leigh Hubbard is being invited. The meeting has been organised by The Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation, the Koori-Gubbah Club (Monash Uni), Trade Unionists for Land Rights, Defenders of Native Title, Students for Land Justice and Reconciliation (Melbourne Uni), and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Support and Liaison Unit (RMIT).
