Dear leftlinkers,

does anyone know if there are any actions planned to protest against the
Esmarelda mining Co? As they are implicated in what is shaping up to be one
of the worst environmental disasters in Europe I believe that they should
be held responsible. So far it seems that all the reports on the case have
played down their involvement and the time has come to make them
accountable. In an ideal world the directors would be had up for criminal
negligence but it would seem that they are even trying to shirk their
responsibility to clean up their mess and make reparations to the Hungarian
people. We have to see that they fulfill their obligations no matter
whether it occurs in Eastern Europe or our own backyard. If we don't do
anything it sets a precedent for other mining companies to get away with
destroying the planet.

So anyway, if anyone knows of anything going on I'd love to hear about it.
Or alternatively if someone would like to help me organise something please
let me know.

Yours in grave concern,
                        Joe Coleman
