2022-10-08 Thread bulkeley
Yea pressure pots and epoxy and all the rest yes very expensive

But sometimes something as simple as watered down pva glue soaked into the wood

Can help done just before the final 1/32 deep finishing cut can do it

Oils for timber are very good soke the wood overnight in it then mill that last
cut

But the down side is you can’t apply a finish to the timber all you can do

Is buff it with like the beal buffing system. I did a lot of experimenting

In this also speeds and feeds help too very slow router speed and a very slow
feed rate

On that last cut all these things can help with tear out. But some woods no

Matter what you do tear I just don’t use them.

Oh yes I can paint them with oils or thin glues before the last cut to make it

Less likely to tear but that would make the job take much longer

And as I said these are not projects they are training

To clarify, the picture in the ad, the vertical four corner supports to the
upper rail uses rectangle stock and cam clamps.  The majority of the woodchucks
I've seen have what appear to be 1" round still stock to hold the upper rails.
That is the version you have Richard.

Yes, should have some sort of brace between the legs, perhaps he doesn't
need any because his floor is so spotless, he is not going hit any lumps to
jarr the legs.
But, having said that, the guy is "one of us" ~ he also has a SS in the

2016-03-14 Thread CURTIS GEORGE
Hello Joe and Mac

I too had hoped for more from this video.  I agree that in the very least cross
support should have been added. that looks like a pretty shaky design, even
before the casters were added.
Now a tool box! that would be a great idea.
It wasn't all that long ago, I carpenter's skill would be measured by his tool
box that he used. The Forman would judge the skills of the carpenter by the way
he made his tool box.

But ON the other hand, I should not judge this guy very hard on his skills, He
did post a video, something that most legacy owners just do not do.
Perhaps someday I can talk Mike to come back to my shop, and then we could make
a good video on some Legacy ideas that most, do not use.
Now that just might get people talking! ;-)

I have to get back to work now. (My lunch is over.)
talk to you all more latter.
Have a good day.

seen this before...and have to say that the design could be a lot better, in
that it does not remove any of the flex or twisting that can happen to a legacy
when mounted on the original legacy legs...i would still suggest a rectangular,
reinforced, plywood box, on wheels...eliminates all bowing of the bed and
"racking of the rails...granted, you cannot do any joinery to the edges of
large panels, but that is not what the legacy does best anyway...and if
designed and constructed properly, the below space can be used for
storage...just my opinion...hope all is well with everyone...joe
