* Hi Bill get well soon,* I too have kidney problems -- i think it is a
result of medicines that they used to cure my leukaemia. Trouble with
getting old!!

Hi Curt
It is 08.00 over here in the U.K. On my Revo I am sure I can hold it with
the Clamps that I have. How to make a smooth finish is a question to sort
out. I could also use a drum type sander, end of a belt sander???
However I will try his method on a flat table ---see how it goes.

Hello everyone.I like Tim's idea of using a side cutter. but how to hold it???
How about making a large spindle, lets say 4" dia.  then make a flat on the
spindle, to support the wood.  Sorta like using bench dogs...Here is another
attempt to picture  What I am suggesting,  mount a flat board, with clamping set
up in-between centers.(or for that matter, just use screws form the bottom?)
this way you can hold the wood and then turn it on its side for slide cutting?
1001 ways to do anything. This is one way That might work...?  ;-)
Have a good night all.C.A.G.

Re: Post from Russia

2018-03-01 Thread Okla Mike (Liltwisted)
I believe it is clean because of the speed of cut, no hesitation at the
ends.

In Tim's suggestion, cutting from the side, there will be a very notable
difference in the look of the ends of the flutes.  Instead of the sharp
radius start and stop, there will be a ramping in and out that will be
the radius of the major diameter of the bit.  Tapered in so to speak.
Also, the cut will have to be a climb cut to remove stock and then a
final clean cut.  The next area of concern is the lifting of the grain
rip out at the exit of the cut.  These are all controllable but as I
said are just areas to be aware of.  I really like the positive index
stops as well as the bearing follower.

Re: Post from Russia

2018-03-01 Thread Tim Krause
Cutting the profile is a bit of a challenge.  I would also start out with the
band saw and then use a template and the template following bit.  It a bit the
has a cutter on the end of the bit and a bearing above it.  I don't recall the
magnate number at this moment.  Once the bit has cut about a 1/2" down the
bearing takes over and the entire depth is cut very accurately.  It's a slow
process.

The other way to form the profile would be to use the z axis template method.
It was shown on the bed project in legacy's academy. It would also be a slow
process but it works.

HI All
Most impressively clean cut, no burning, even though the wood looks full of
resin. Do you think the cutter has a greater angle of relief than ours?

I will say again what a cracking little Mill the REVO is. As I am sure Bill

Richard,

Great idea no matter the language barrier, the bearing follower is standard
equipment on most trim routers I can see how it can easily be adapted, I’m
going to look into this further.

One other thing, the side cutting bit would make a smoother cut than a core bit
since it would be cutting with the grain.

Just use the cam clamps that come with the Revo and grip the edges.  The round

I like his method of a follower.  If I was doing this on the legacy I would
turn the piece on it's side and use a side cutting bit with a bearing.  Simple
