Ok then, create a new dummy file and do the same thing to the test file and see if the same thing happens. Also export a gedcom of the data of your family file then import into another new file and see if the problem has corrected itself. Also, have you tried File Maintenance Check Repair yet?

It is expensive but I use it almost daily. You may hear from some others that it's hard to cancel after 14 days, but if you jot down the 800 number that's on the screen when you join there is no problem canceling. I did this about 6 times before I finally joined about 4 years ago. Ruth A.

I too subscribe to Ancestry.com and find it quite useful -- although I don't use it every day. A possible alternative is to check with your local library to see if they subscribe to Ancestry Library Edition.  It  provides library patrons access to a wide range of resources

You can search the free government census records on a microfilm reader at the library ... you will have to do line by line searches of the hand written census reports ... some are well written, some (most) are NOT. What you are paying Ancestry for is the INDEXING they did of the census Reports.
