If you access the map from the Master Location List, Mike is correct in
his answer.
If, however, you have accessed the map from the person's family view, you
must click on the Resolve button near the lower left of the map. This will
open the Master Location List map on which you pan to the

This thread has turned up some very interesting uses of the program's

I use the Events and Notes for two totally different purposes. The Events
are for the Chronology screen, (or in a printout that doesn't have any Notes

Has your issue been resolved since your exchange with Customer Support?
My understanding is that the 36 character Unique Identification Number
is designed to facilitate merges/imports for those software or websites
that support it. I found the following on another software's site:
If you go to our website, click on Help Center and select Tips, you'll find
a detailed article on Intellishare there.
Thanks for using Legacy.

You can't install Legacy on an external hard-drive. You can copy all
the installed files from your C-drive to the E-drive and then use the
files on the E-drive and back up the files to that location and move
your E-drive to other computers that have Legacy installed, if you want
to do that.

Unless something has changed, this isn't true. I just looked at my old

If I'm reading this right, your 'external' hard-drive was actually a
second internal HD. I believe the reason that it won't install to an
external hard-drive is that there's no registry there. It's a portable
device like a flash-drive, just bigger.

There is no registry on my E:
At the risk of getting into a debate on semantics, I agree with Dennis; nothing
has changed and I have mine installed on my E-drive which is an external HD.
Naturally, because the register is on the C Drive the Millennia entries are in
that register and point to E:/Legacy/. To be perfectly
Can I also assume that entering data into EVENTS will display properly when

I uninstalled Legacy program from my C drive and just use left over
files ie: data, backup on my C as a secondary backup to my new M
drive. I SUCCESSFULLY installed Legacy 7 on my new external hard drive
and then copied my files to the new drive. I'll get a flash drive and
make backups to that as
Did OP, Joan, get lost in this fray? I think what we got to is that you
cannot install Legacy on an external drive, independently. It will
still put registry keys and dll's on your C-drive. Is that where we
are? For Joan's sake, I mean.

I again thank you all for such awesome responses! I've definitely
learned a lot about events in such a short time!
If any of the Legacy team are reading, I'd like to hear some input
from you all regarding Legacy's stance on the use of notes vs. events.

If you mean print in the same manner that other similar reports do, yes. When I

I print the whole document. I usually need to go in and rewrite some of the
sentences, i had written wrong in the past.

I just don't understand why you are so determined that Legacy include a tab
for Military and Education notes. Military and Education are events and, if
you wish to expand on the information, why not just enter your notes in the
Notes section for the particular fact? I'm not aware that Notes do
I finally made up my mind to upgrade from Version 5 Standard to Version 6

how to make the fonts for the titles on the tabs in the name list larger.

More newbie stuff. Now that I have upgraded my desktop computer from 5 to 6, I
need to also upgrade my laptop. I don't have reliable internet access for the
laptop. Would it work to copy the setup file to the laptop and install it from
there?

One caveat to intellishare merging...read on.

Shirley,
If you mean the set-up file from C:\Legacy (assuming you installed using the
defaults) then no.
You need to download the full set-up file and save it to somewhere convenient
and then copy it to your lap-top (say, to your Desk-top) and then double click
to install. You can then

You need to check the sentence structure for any event - look in a
print preview and see if it makes sense - sometimes needs some
tweaking!

Thank you Ron and Dan.
Ron, I did save the setup file to my desktop and used it to install Legacy on
my desktop. Now what I want to do is to copy that file (Legacy6Setup.exe) to my
flash drive and from there to my laptop. And then use it to upgrade my laptop
from 5 to 6.

If one uses Events, can one still copy and paste interesting bits into that as

I don't think you can actually make those larger, but you can adjust the
other font sizes under Options/Zoom on the Name List screen. Look at it
this way - there's only six of them so you might be able to memorize them.

I have maximized all the windows to full size and set the minimum font size for

don't understand why, because I never had a problem with it in version 5.
