I like that idea - actually drawing a tree on paper is such a satisfying
way of doing it and I feel would keep a child interested for much
longer. They'll surely ask to use the computer program when they are
ready for it. I just hope one of our grandchildren will show an
interest as our three
Hello Everyone,
My daughter who is 7 is very much interested in family history and although
I haven't let her try Legacy yet (I will having read the posts) what she
does is create her own forms on blank paper and then she fills in names and
dates and even draws pictures of the family.

Getting a younger generation interested is a concern to all of us I'm
sure. I know it is for me. We don't want 30, 40, 50, 60 years worth of
work tossed in a landfill when we're gone. And I know of a couple cases
where that's exactly what happened as no one in the family had any
interest in all tha
Love to get your younger links. Are you listening Goeff? Just kidding.
But there have been some GREAT ideas. School Group, Books for younger
genealogists, etc. My husband's link is to "Kit Carson," and I think that may

H. If your goal is to interest a minor in genealogy, here are some
things that I have done with my children and other people's children:

inputting some typed records. I found that giving them no

And the important part in your story is that you had a natural inclination and
interest. If her grandson has expressed a desire or shown a spark of interest,
then she can help nurture it. If he is not interested already then it is
difficult to create such interest.
If he does have an interest,

My 7 (and three-quarters) year old daughter is interested in our family
tree, and in knowing what it was like in "the old days" (i.e., "did you have
TV when you were growing up in the 70s?", sheesh!!!), so there are younger
people interested out there. I haven't moved on to showing he
I'm not young but I became interested in genealogy (but I didn't know that
was what it was called) at a young age, about 8 yrs old. My grandfather had
a notebook that his mother had put down the info on her family. It
fascinated me esp since one woman had married twice and both husbands had

Our 6 year old granddaughter has recently asked about her origins, so I'm
also interested in this. She's aware that a family can be big (in time,
as well as people) as she knew her great-grandmother - we have pictures of
her helping make a banana pudding (family tradition) - and has met much of

I don't know of any. (btw, I started genealogy at age 16)
I do have various links and resources for young genealogists, from about age
8 to teenage appropriate links (depending on the link) if any of that
would help.

Do you really mean you are trying to interest him in LUG or that you are
trying to interest him in genealogy and using Legacy?
