I have been using a ? for a first name or a surname if I do not know what it

While I agree with those thoughts in principle, the reality that you
I agree Kathy. It turns out to be a benefit, too, when creating a
report with an index. Instead of having a bunch of females all listed
together by just their first names preceded by a comma, they appear
all together, but with their married name in brackets. I find that
more useful in the index.
