Scott Hall asked questions earlier this week regarding citing US census
mortality schedules in Legacy, given that there are no Legacy templates
specifically for this purpose.

First, I have noticed that Ancestry has not necessarily posted accurate
information in their index regarding which National Archives microfilm series
the images came from.  For example, their description of the mortality
schedules series states that the 1870 Iowa mortality schedules are on NARA
series T1156 rolls 54-62, however my ancestor's index entry states A1156-57.  I
have checked this discrepancy against the NARA listing and discovered that the
correct reference would be T1156.  That listing can be found at:

http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/census/nonpopulation/#where

I used the 1870 US Census Source Writer template, and created the following
citation using the Source Override feature:

1870 U.S. census, Keokuk Co., Iowa mortality schedule, Benton Twp, p. 540,
family 211, Saml Sheets; digital images, *Ancestry.com* (www.ancestry.com:
accessed 18 Jun 2010); from National Archives and Records Administration
microfilm T1156, roll 57; this record is incorrectly indexed by Ancestry.com as
deriving from NARA microfilm series A1156.

On the override, I changed the "population schedule" default to "mortality
schedule" and the microfilm series default of "M593" to T1156.  Note that one
must change the bibliography/source list output on the Master Source screen,
and the footnote/endnote citation and subsequent citation output on the Detail
screen.

I have not checked this against EE, but am confident it comes close enough to
containing all the necessary elements for my purposes.  I often don't quibble
when the sequence or punctuation in Legacy is not exactly consistent with EE,
as I figure if I ever decide to submit an article for publication or
certification, I can tweak that in my narrative.

Other than using a source override, the other option I can think of would be to
use a generic website image template, but that will likely result in
inconsistent sequencing and punctuation of the citation elements [I haven't
played with it yet to find out for sure].

I wish Legacy would hurry up with the enhancement that would allow us to create
our own templates!

Connie
