There is an entry in the bugtracker about married names and name list
(ID 794 entered in 2006):
"Sorting of Index View and Name List when AKA's and/or Married Names
are included" may be Brian could add this to that item.

I tagged 5 people with the problem, (I'm sure there are more). The
problem occurs when either one is ticked. No problem when both are
ticked or neither is ticked. None of my 5 has an alternate name but 3
have married name

Dennis,
In the Name List Options I had only one tick for "Include Married
Names". When I ticked "Include Alternate Names" it jumps on target to
the correct person. Unticking again it returns to top of list. I don't
know why I would ever not want to Include Alternate Names so I'll
continue to work
display additional names, be they
Married or Alternate

Same here. I can scroll down Surname, Given list and find the person
in correct order somewhere in middle of the list.
