Bits branch is ready for testing. Will be merged tomorrow

The bits branch contains work for #1023 : lingering marked and expanded "bits". The present work retires the @bool put-expansion-bits-in-leo-files setting, and removes it from all .leo files. Let me know if I have missed any. The code
