Thank you for your fast reply! You were right, it looks like I have built the pass 1 of Binutils as "root" instead of the "lfs" user. I have started from the beginning and now everything works exactly like described in the book - I have $LFS_TGT-ar and I was able to compile GCC without the ISL package.
