Kernel 2.6 - SATA hd

using the Slax livecd distro to follow the LFS book,if so could you recommend a better livecd? Does my SATA drive pose any problems with the LFS build since the livecd didnt like it. I hope these questions arent too stupid, I'm not a complete linux newbie but this will be my first LFS build -Ross
