Error after Glibc make install
Hello, As you easily will understand I'm a little more than a Linux newbie, but I can talk sufficiently well to my OS from the command line. I'm following LFS-BOOK 6.8. Everything went successfully until section 6.2. My host is Ubuntu 11.4. All the host's prerequisites are OK. No error in make, but when i run make install, at the end I get this message: stubs.h unchanged rm -f /sources/glibc-build/stubs.h /sources/glibc-build/elf/sln /sources/glibc-build/elf/symlink.list rm -f /sources/glibc-build/elf/symlink.list test ! -x /sources/glibc-build/elf/ldconfig || LC_ALL=C LANGUAGE=C \ /sources/glibc-build/elf/ldconfig \ /lib /usr/lib CC=gcc /usr/bin/perl scripts/test-installation.pl /sources/glibc-build/ /tools/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.5.2/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lnss_test1 collect2: ld returned 1 exit status Execution of gcc failed! The script has found some problems with your installation! Please read the FAQ and the README file and check the following: - Did you change the gcc specs file (necessary after upgrading from Linux libc5)? - Are there any symbolic links of the form libXXX.so to old libraries? Links like libm.so - libm.so.5 (where libm.so.5 is an old library) are wrong, libm.so should point to the newly installed glibc file - and there should be only one such link (check e.g. /lib and /usr/lib) You should restart this script from your build directory after you've fixed all problems! Btw. the script doesn't work if you're installing GNU libc not as your primary library! make[1]: *** [install] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/sources/glibc-2.13' make: *** [install] Error 2 I understand that Glibc was not installed: am I right or not? Secondly, if not, may I proceed or I must introduce some correction anywhere? When I ask to my OS outside the chroot environment which ld I get the answer : /usr/bin/ld. Many thanks for the help I hope you will give me to perform my very difficult task. I pretty much have given up on building lfs. But I will lurk the list and chat with others Billsmile.gif-- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/lfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
Re: lfs system
I too would suggest you take a break but not give up. After several attemps I was able to build lfs on a usb hard drive and I am also getting ready to build lfs on my Dell XPS laptop which has two drives and dual boot with gentoo. I would also suggest reading the book and also the suggested reading material that was very helpful for me as I was able to comprehend the information then when I built my lfs I had a better understanding of what I was doing.
