I know what the immediate meaning is, but not the cause.

 In file included /mnt/lfs/gcc-4.5.2/gcc/gcc.c:8303: warning: cast discards
 qualifiers from pointer target type

This is usually as a result of something like this:

voidsome_function(const void *some_pointer) {
char *my_copy_of_some_pointer;

my_copy_of_some_pointer = (char *)some_pointer;

[...]
}

The cast discards the const qualifier to the target type.
Why this may be occurring, I don't know.

 /mnt/lfs/gcc-4.5.2/libgcc/../gcc/config/soft-fp/divtf3.c: In function
 '__divtf3':
 /mnt/lfs/gcc-4.5.2/libgcc/../gcc/config/soft-fp/divtf3.c:38:1: warning:
 'R_e' may be used uninitialized in this function

This means that a variable is used in a function, seemingly without
being assigne a value first.

[...]

 /mnt/lfs/gcc-4.5.2/libgcc/../gcc/config/soft-fp/fixtfsi.c: In function
 '__fixtfsi':
 /mnt/lfs/gcc-4.5.2/libgcc/../gcc/config/soft-fp/fixtfsi.c:42:3: warning:
 left shift count = width of type

This is a complaint for something like

unsigned short int i, j;

j = i  24;

where an unsigned short int is 16 bits.

 What is this fixunstfsi.c file?

 Over the weekend, I downloaded and burnt:

 Debian net install (Etch) 32 and 64 bit
 Ubuntu desktop and server 8.04 32 and 64 bit
 The latest LFS live CD

With all those kernels, it suggests a BIOS setup problem.
At any rate, the kernel should be compiled with HIGHMEM4G
support (4GB high memory support), not with HIGHMEM64G nor
NOHIGHMEM.

In the BIOS, check the settings related to on-board video
memory sizes and apertures. Generally speaking, lower values
are safer. I once had an AGP board that would not boot if
the AGP aperture was set above 64MB.

Oh, no, these are kernels that I've build in preparation for round two. :-)

The only kernels I've tested were the production kernel I was using (EIP
errors), the original LFS 6.1.1 kernel with some optimizations (blinking
cursor), and an ubuntu 7.10 install disk (kernel error and freeze).

 At any rate, the kernel should be compiled with HIGHMEM4G
 support (4GB high memory support), not with HIGHMEM64G nor
 NOHIGHMEM.

Which it does have right now. The board does support up to 8 gig.

IIRC, there was not much of anything in the BIOS settings for the built
on video, so that's kind of out.

But of course!
