My concern here is not that Facebook wouldn't use SSL to collect an ID,
but why they can demand the ID in the first place. Do they treat the ID
(sensitive data) differently

How did they enforce this? Did they simply ask for legal names on a
signup-page, or did they require everyone to present a government-issued
