I was able to build version 0.4.1 successfully on Linux 2.6.15
(gcc 4.0.0), however, when extracting frames, the sample programs
produced corrupted images with large blocks of black or green colors.
A small portion (less than 50%) of each frame was correct.
I also tested it on a Windows XP machine

The video is a short segment (2 MB) with a few hundred frames.

How can I find out whether a file needs to be demultiplexed?
The attached image (converted to JPEG to save space) is a
typical frame exported by a sample program.

Use the "file" command:
$ file test.mpg
test.mpg: MPEG sequence, v1, sys
