Re: [Libreoffice] Segmentation fault in building tail_build project

2011-10-29 Thread LOH KOK HOE
Thanks for your help. I have the make 3.82 downloaded. May I know can I
instruct the build to use the latest version of make 3.82.

I was using Ubuntu, currently using version 3.81, and not really want to
remove the old version and install a new one because there are dependencies
using make 3.81.

May I know is there a way to use the make 3.82 and not removing make 3.81?

THanks @!

You are most likely using an unpatched gnu make 3.81 with -j 1
there should have been a warning at configure time about that. something
 like
 * - make 3.81 is prone to crashes with parallelism 1. Since
--with-num-cpus was explicitely given, it is honored, but do not
complain when make segfault on you.

Anyway, you either need to disable (i.e do not specify
--with-num-cpus) the build parallelism or install and use a gnu make
 3.82 or a patched 3.81 version.
You can find a usable 3.82 version at

Bug 42339 - EDITING and VIEWING cell borders differs from expected and print
exists at least since OOo 1.1.4., so I can't see any founding why this one
should have become such a high priority suddenly.

33634 - VIEWING: No difference between cell border 0,5pt and 1,0pt is rated
as minor in the bug, so I also can't see any reason for a listing here.

Both ones are too far away from a blocker to be listed here, because of that I
remove them.

[Libreoffice] Replace (Byte|Uni|Xub_)String with O(U)String: Fill() method is missing

2011-10-29 Thread Chr. Rossmanith

Hi,

the deprecated string classes have a Fill(n,c) method which fills a
string with a single character c repeated n times. I found ~50
occurrences of Fill() using git grep, so it might be worth to add a
Fill() method to OUString. Maybe the name of the new method could be a
bit more verbose e.g. fillWithChar().

Probably I would have to add something similar to OUString
fillWithChar(sal_uInt32 nNumber,|sal_Unicode cChar=' '|) to ustring.hxx
and something like rtl_ustr_fillWithChar() to ustring.c|

|Obviously I need some assistance...any hint is welcome.

I concur that this would be very helpful, at least in my line(s) of
work. I hope, however, that it could be more general than just every
other row/column. For instance, there are times I need every 3rd row
to be colored, or I need a set of 2 rows colored every 2 rows.
Something like

Row 1: color 1
Row 2: color 1
Row 3: color 2
Row 4: color 2
Row 5: color 1
Row 6: color 1
Row 7: color 2
Row 8: color 2
etc.

I've done this manually to date, but having a general description or way
to handle this would be *very* nice.

As to how difficult it would be to implement? I don't know. I'm not
working in that part of the code. However, I'll bet an interested
(coding) party would have an easier time going about it if there were an
actual use-case/specification.

[Libreoffice] how to 'make' a single target?

2011-10-29 Thread Kevin Hunter

Hullo List,

I'm currently working in the sc/ module, and I'm in the make small
change, re-compile, make small change, re-compile stage. This is
proving very cumbersome, however, as I'm unable to re-make just the
affected files. For instance, note my attached output, showing the
output of

$ make -j1 | head; sleep; make -j1 | head

Should not at least the first 3 completed executions no longer need to
be re-executed?

This is frustrating because it results in a latency of 5+ minutes on my
slow 2-core machine before I can see the results of a code change.

Are there any pointers for me on how I can compile _just the exact_
piece of code on which I'm working (and affected other snippets, of course)?

Thanks,

Kevin

Thats good to hear :).

I've just created this small mock-up, of what I think could be a good
solution:

I concur that this would be very helpful, at least in my line(s) of
work. I hope, however, that it could be more general than just every
other row/column. For instance, there are times I need every 3rd row
to be colored, or I need a set of 2 rows colored every 2 rows.
Something like

Row 1: color 1
Row 2: color 1
Row 3: color 2
Row 4: color 2
Row 5: color 1
Row 6: color 1
Row 7: color 2
Row 8: color 2
etc.

I've done this manually to date, but having a general description or
way to handle this would be *very* nice.

As to how difficult it would be to implement? I don't know. I'm not
working in that part of the code. However, I'll bet an interested
(coding) party would have an easier time going about it if there were
an actual use-case/specification.

Use make build -srj2 but leave out the build at least once before
creating the patch or pushing your changes. What needs most time is
linking and executing our unit tests and with make build you skip the
tests.

Yes. Could you check the timestamps of

/home/kevin/devel/libreoffice/workdir/unxlngx6.pro/Dep/CxxObject/sc/source/filter/dif/difexp.d
being newer than

/home/kevin/devel/libreoffice/workdir/unxlngx6.pro/CxxObject/sc/source/filter/dif/difexp.o
and that again being newer than

, please?

Are there any pointers for me on how I can compile _just the exact_

You can build without unitchecks by doing a:
 (. ../Env.Host.sh make build)
You make it ignore header dependencies by doing a:
 (. ../Env.Host.sh make gb_FULLDEPS= build)
Then only objects get rebuild if you touched the cxx directly.
If you do a:
 (. ../Env.Host.sh make gb_FULLDEPS= -W `readlink -f
source/filter/dif/difexp.cxx` build)
only difexp.cxx gets recompiled and relinked, even if it wasnt directly
changed.

Best,

+1 for I don't know either.

here are my cents for behaviour (1 day old build):

LO welcome screen: ~0% CPU. good.
LO swriter with empty text doc: ~50% CPU (one core). Not so good
LO impress, the first wizard window: ~100% CPU (one core). Not good.
LO scalc, empty sheet: several %, can't remember right now.

(all with zero input activity).

What puzzles me is that LO isn't very slow, it's just using lots of CPU...

Eh, I'd like to correct that. Just opened a document and it's very
slow. The doc is just about 3200 pages, but it takes forever to search
for a word.

A few weeks ago this took maybe 1-2 secs for a searchreplace all. Now
it takes like 2 minutes...

and in another terminal, after about 2 mins of empty swriter document
idle doing this:

callgrind_control -b 28236 (the actual swriter PID)
gives this:
PID 28236:

Compared to GIMP running idle for 5 minutes, and it had just about
5500 calls to different things...

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 33047] FILEOPEN HSQLDB sees no table when filename contains ? character

2011-10-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon

patch proposed

Pb : the tables of a document odb with contains a ? character can't be viewed

I had put a backtrace but I don't know why there was a test which tried to
rename element.
I took a look at git log and found the commit
f463e18dd6201eb7ec2e6fce3dd221489ed2b4ec (16/02/2005).

I don't know why there was a test with a call to rename and not simply the call
of isStream so I simplified the code to just have the isStream call and put the
catch element like the ones of the 2 other methods.

With this patch, I can see tables of a document odb with contains a ?
character
Moreover, since the commit of 2005 fixed a bug
(http://openoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=39922), I tried to reproduce
this one after having applied the patch, I didn't reproduce it. But perhaps I
missed something.

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Sheet that does not allow chart Data Ranges to be changed

Problem description:

I was updating a sheet daily by adding a column and saving in .xls format.
After a while I noticed that the daily changes were being discarded without
warning - this is a bug itself.

I tried Save As .xls and did receive a warning that there were too many rows
to save in the chosen format. Actually, it should have said columns. So I
changed the format to .ods and saved.

Once created I noticed that the additional columns that I was adding were not
updating the the charts so I attempted to inspect/change the Data Ranges.
However, the option to change Data Ranges was not available in the charts.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open attached sheet.
2. Right click on chart.
3. Click on Edit.
4. Right click on chart again.
5. There should be an option to edit Data Ranges.

Current behavior: Data Ranges cannot be edited.

Expected behavior: To be able to edit Data Ranges.

Platform (if different from the browser):

Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1

 patch proposed

Great, thanks. Will review in the week of 7 November, if nobody else beats me
to it.

I had put a backtrace but I don't know why there was a test which tried to
 rename element.

I took a look at git log and found the commit
 f463e18dd6201eb7ec2e6fce3dd221489ed2b4ec (16/02/2005).

I don't know why there was a test with a call to rename (...)

(...) since the commit of 2005 fixed a bug
 (http://openoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=39922), I tried to reproduce
this one after having applied the patch, I didn't reproduce it.

I *think* a later fixed bug i#39922 in a better way: instead of constantly
renaming the data file (within the .odb file as a zip file) to match the
filename of the odb file, just call it always data.

So it would have made the renaming you remove obsolete. But not sure, I have to
dig in deeper to really understand.

Reproducible.

I will attach a test kit

I doubt that it matters, but to avoid misunderstand I will describe all steps
how to reproduce very detailed. I tested with LibreOffice Portable 3.3.3 -
WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) German UI [OOO330m19 (Build:301 Tag 3.3.3.1)].

0. Start LibO from WIN start Center
1. Open new CALC document from LibO Start center, save as SampleLibO333.ods
2. Click common row / column header to select / highlight all cells of the
sheet
3. Menu 'Format - Cells - Border - Click Set outer border and all
inner lines - select Style 2,5pt single line - Color Yellow ok
   As expected all cells yellow
4. Click Cell B2
5. Menu 'Format - Cells - Border - Click All four borders -
select Style 2,5pt single line - Color Black ok
   Expected: all cell borders black
Actual: left and top cell border black, rest yellow
6. Select cell range C4:E6
Menu 'Format - Cells - Border - Click Set outer border and all
inner lines - select Style 2,5pt single line - Color Black ok
Expected: all cell borders C4:E6 black
Actual: bottom and right border of area reeains yellow
7. Now Export to SampleLibO333_export.pdf
   Expected: looks as in .odt
Actual: Borders of C4:E6 all black
8. Now Print with FreePDF to SampleLibO333FreePDF.pdf
As expected result as in step 7
9. Type an x into F9
as expected borders view will not change
10. Redo Steps 7 (SampleLibO333_exoprt_x.pdf),
   8 (SampleLibO333_FreePDF_x.pdf)
   Expected: Results as in 7,8
actual: now again area borders bottom and right are yellow

It's all the same with LibO 3.4.4RC1, LibO MAster, OOo3.3, OOo 3.1.1.

Only for the sake of completness, I opened The LibO344.ods with Gnumeric: There
in ghe document the top + left borders remained yellow, bottom + right became
black. A Printout looked curious, only 1 cell wiht yellow borders (may be I did
something wrong with the settings.

I will check for DUPs before I will confirm.

@Mikeyy:
So I believe we nailed this one, thank you for your endurance. May be you can
check your samples whether the other border problems look like results of the
problem figured out here? If you believe you find problems that can not be
explained with this bug, I recommend to file a new bug. Generally it's better
to mark a report as a DUP if we find out later that the prolbem is already
reported than to have lots of irrelevant (because describing a different bug)
comments in a report.

@Kohei:

@Carl Turney
I've received your PM, thanks.

How to proceed with your bug report?
I would see these possibilities:
1. We could change the field 'importance' from 'normal' to 'enhancement' (a
request for enhancement)

3. We could change the field 'Status' to 'RESOLVED WORKSFORME' (due to the

Another attempt to attach the file. Will it go through?
Yes.

Reproduced with

LO 3.4.3 OOO340m1 (Build:302)
Ubuntu 10.04.3 x86
Linux 2.6.32-34-generic Russian UI

Milos Sramek's files behavior is same is described.
In my test in both Export and Save as the image is not cropped, its size is
adjusted to the correct size of the cropped image.

 haven't reproduced this on master/3.5 (Debian x86-32).
Have you reproduced it too on 3.5 ?

Hi Julien,

Just tested on my own Linux 32bit build from today's master. Can not reproduce
in this version.

So problem seems to be fixed on 3.5 dev.

Is it possible that you have the Ctrl key still pressed when pressing the
cursor key (this happened to me when trying to reproduce)?

In that case, the behavior differs if the underlying cell is empty or not. If
it is empty, the selection jumps to the next non-empty cell. Otherwise to the
last cell before an empty cell.

To insert multiple rows you must select the same number of rows you want in the

This is a regression with Openoffice.

Browsing the file https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=52632 is much
more slower than with OpenOffice 3.3.0.

About 10s with LO and less than 1s with OOo.

Note that Acceleration in Option is activated in LO and not selectable in OOo.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 41376] FILESAVE: Additional Postscript export required

2011-10-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41376

--- Comment #6 from David Tardon dtar...@redhat.com 2011-10-29 10:30:49 PDT
---
(In reply to comment #2)
 Hi Rainer,

Others who would use this feature would be anyone who needs a post script
 file,
such as those using Hyla FAX or other fax utilities.

http://www.hylafax.org/content/Handbook:Server_Operation:Sending_Faxes says
that PDF is supported since 4.1beta2, which was released more than 6 years
ago...

Ordinarily, most Linux programs has a print to file listed as one of the
available printers. Firefox, Eye of gNome, etc.. This allows the user to
easily print to either a Post Script or a PDF. You have removed this feature.

Yes, we have. Like it or not, postscript is dead. It has been replaced by PDF
just about anywhere. Our print impl. has been changed to use PDF instead of
postscript, so there is not much reason to maintain standalone postscript
export anymore.

Also, ordinarily, if one installs the cups-pdf utility, you can select CUPS
PDF printer and print directly as a PDF to your desktop or if you give CUPS
 PDF
a file location CUPS PDF will output a Post Script (not a PDF) file to that
location. This feature is not usable in Libre Office as the output of the
 file
created by Libre Office through CUP PDF is severely corrupted.

Print to PDF is not the same thing as export to PDF. There are some PDF
features you cannot get by print, e.g., hyperlinks or table of contents.

It is far easier just to export to a PDF, then open
Evince and use the typical Linux print to file utility to create a Post
 Script file.

There are command line utilities too--pdftops and pdf2ps come to mind.

Now, if I am remembering correctly, you must first create a Post Script file
 before creating a PDF.

No, we do not have to create postscript before PDF. Where have you heard that?

It would be super if you would allow the Post Script
file you create before creating the PDF to be saved. Libre Office's file,
Export to PDF, File Type would be the perfect place to put such thing.
(File Type currently only has one item in it, the dialog does not need to be
there if you are not going to add items to it.)

As written above, it had been there and was intentionally removed.

Expected: LibO should contact URL and search for Table data
Actual: nothing, no Busy mouse pointer and Wireshark does not show any
   activity to freedesktop.org
5. Check URL. you will find 2 square brackets. replace [ by %5B and ] by
   %5D
6. Press Enter with caret in URL input pane
Expected: LibO should contact URL and search for Table data
Actual: Busy mouse pointer and Wireshark shows activity connected to

dialog will be shown

Coding those characters is not necessary for data interchange (at least not
with Seamonkey Browser), so LibO should not require it.

Wow, incredible feature! I had never noticed it...definitely useful.

Though, I think it would really be better to say Insert a row when only one
row is selected. We know beforehand what the item will do, so why not tell the

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 42378] New: UI: Clicking on data pilot table's top-left cell should show data field settings

2011-10-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon

To tweak a data pilot table's Data field settings, one needs to right click on
it, choose Activate..., and then double-click on the variable in the Data
field area. This is quite painful, especially if you want to successively show
different types of % (row, column, total).

OTC, in Excel, and for many versions, double-clicking on the top-left cell is
enough to show this dialog. This makes much sense:
- double-clicking on most cells in the table already performs an action (show
the data)
- the top-left cell has a label describing what is measured in the table: it
feels natural to allow changing this measure by double-clicking on it

This small detail could really make data pilot nicer to use.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 42383] New: Bad non-standard hyphenation of diaeresis and Unicode f ligatures

2011-10-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42383

 Bug #: 42383
Summary: Bad non-standard hyphenation of diaeresis and Unicode

Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.4.3 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Linguistic component
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: reino...@gnome.org

This bug is carried over from
http://openoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=71608 .

It seems, non-standard hyphenation (hyphenation with alternative spelling)
support of OOo has an implementation bug: it doesn't break Dutch and Greek
words with diaeresis correctly. Mostly non-standard hyphenation works well (for
example, Dutch omaatje - oma- tje, cafeetje - café- tje), but it doesn't with
diaeresis: reëel - ree- el is bad, we need re- eel. Maybe we need hardwired
language dependent patch... It is not an external hyphenator component problem,
but inner hyphenation support of Writer. Test data attached.

--- Comment #9 From t...@openoffice.org 2007-02-09 10:52:32 ---
When looking at it with SRC680 m200 I found the following:
- in SO the hyphenation position for reëel is re=ëel and the hyphenated word
becomes re=eel. As of m202 the hyphenated word is re=ëel.
- OOo the hyphenated word is also re=ëel

The above results were directly obtained from the hyphenator.
(You may use the Basic script below to check)
Thus it is a problem of the specific implementations.
As for SO there can nothing be done but report this to the vendor,
and for OOo someone needs to patch the hyphenation patterns.

Thus I'm reassigning this issue to lingucomponent.

Sub Main

xH = createUnoService(org.openoffice.lingu.LibHnjHyphenator)
'xH = createUnoService(com.sun.star.lingu2.Proximity.Hyphenator)

dim nl_NL as new com.sun.star.lang.Locale
nl_NL.Language = nl
nl_NL.Country  = NL

xHW = xH.hyphenate( reëel, nl_NL, 3, DimArray() )
'xHW = xH.hyphenate( Hundefutter, nl_NL, 3, DimArray() )

msgtxt =   + xHW.getHyphenatedWord() +   + xHW.getHyphenPos()
msgbox msgtxt

End Sub
---

--- Comment #11 From nem...@openoffice.org 2007-10-03 20:45:25 ---
Nemeth-TL: I have tried the script with the attached data, and I have got
re=eel (reeel 1) and oma=tje (omatje 2), so it seems for me, it is the bug of
OpenOffice.org's implementation, not the LibHnj non standard hyphenation
extension. Maybe hyphenpos=1 wrongly forbidden by the 2-characters limit.
Please, check my example, not the default Dutch hyphenation pattern. LibHnj
executable works well on my example. Thanks in advance, Laci

--- Comment #14 From t...@openoffice.org 2007-11-23 11:36:23 ---
Testing with SRC680 m227:
- SO: reëel gets hyphenated in the document as ree-el
but the hypenator say it should be re-eel
- OOo: reëel gets hyphenated as re-ëel
and the hyphenator says the same.

I don't know which hyphenator is right or wrong (and if the SO hyphenator
result is wrong it can't be fixed on our side, it needs to be reported to the
vendor).
But clearly since the SO hyphenator says re-eel an actual document should
behave similar. Thus we have a problem with the algorithm here.

I don't see any problem with OOo hyphenator unless someone says that the result
from the OOo hyphenator should not be re-ëel because that one is wrong.

Does someone have input on the correct hyphenation of reëel?

For the time being I will keep this issue and with since there seems to be a
problem with the code for evaluating alternative spellings (as already
expected).
--- Comment #15 From t...@openoffice.org 2007-11-23 11:40:23 ---
TL-Nemeth: I missed that the correct hyphenation for reëel was already listed
as being re-eel. Thus the OOo hyphenator or it's dictionary file needs to be
fixed.

Since I will use this issue to fix the problem in the code for evaluating
alternative spellings please submit a new one for either or both of the above
changes in OOo.

--- Comment #16 From nem...@openoffice.org 2007-11-23 13:10:32 ---
Nemeth-TL: Thanks for your check and comment. This bug report was only a
theoretically problem with attached test data, because nobody worked on Dutch
or Greek non-standard hyphenation patterns a years ago, when I checked my
alternative/non-standard hyphenator patch in OpenOffice.org. But now here is
the result of OpenTaal project, the extended Dutch hyphenation patterns, and
OpenOffice.org (and StarOffice) can't handle half of the Dutch non-standard
hyphenation described by the hyphenation patterns correctly.

I believe, OpenTaal's activity and result (see
http://www.linux.com/feature/116697 for example) and collaboration with
OpenTaal is very important for the future of OpenOffice.org, because we would
have official certificated spell checking and hyphenation in OpenOffice.org at
least
