Dear Timon,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:

Dear Drew Jensen,

OK, can see it as useful. But would probably need some control of the media
playback as in see also.

But the second is already possible, sort of with export to SVG based "SMIL2.0"
format (see bug 117708) . But a full video encoding e.g. to mp4 is better left
to external capture programs.

Onto the UX-advise pile...

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 151399] New: LibreOffice 7.3.6.2 Impress freezes when saving on Ubuntu 22.04

2022-10-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=151399

Bug ID: 151399
Summary: LibreOffice 7.3.6.2 Impress freezes when saving on
Ubuntu 22.04
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: Master old -3.6
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Impress
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: h...@phy.duke.edu

Created attachment 182892
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=182892=edit
Impress file that occasionally freezes when trying to save, created under
LibreOffice 7.3.6.2

I have been an enthusiastic user of LibreOffice with Linux, and have been using
LibreOffice for at least 8 years.

I have consistently been having trouble for over several years, so over several
versions of LibreOffice and of Ubuntu, when trying to save an Impress
presentation file that I have already been working with. About one out of every
ten attempts to save a file that I have already created and am working on,
LibreOffice freezes and, after about 5 seconds, I get a warning message from
Linux about whether to Quit or Wait, but waiting rarely leads to unfreezing and
so I have to quit LibreOffice, often losing some of the changes I have made.
This freezing occurs often enough that I find it is a serious problem.

What is frustrating is it is not clear what triggers the freezing. I may save a
file 5-15 times before a freezing occurs. After quitting LibreOffice and trying
to continue with the editing, the freezing sometimes occurs right away or not
for many saves. But what is clear is the probability of a freezing to occur
increases substantially over time, the more times I save the same file during a
given editing session (say 1-3 hours), the more likely LibreOffice will freeze

This freezing is currently occurring with LibreOffice 7.3.6.2 and with a fully
updated Ubuntu 22.04 OS (latest current version) on a computer with 16 GB of
RAM and plenty of disk space free. I am using an NVIDIA 750 TI graphics card.
The problem only occurs for me when saving the file.

In searching the Internet, I have seen some people suggest that the problem
might be related to NVIDIA drivers but I believe I have ruled that out by
switching my desktop computer to use the Nouveau non-proprietary drivers and
finding that the freezing still occurs (although less frequently than when I
was using the NVIDIA drivers) under Xorg and under Wayland, so under both of
the windowing environments that Ubuntu offers.

The Impress file is of moderate size (I have attached the file), about 3.5 MB
and corresponds to about 28 slides. The slides are a mix of text, images, and
URL links, with some latex images added using the LibreOffice extension
TexMaths 0.49. I do not use the advanced capabilities of LibreOffice like
complicated slide animations, just text, images, some URLs, and some latex
images.

I am not able to reproduce the freezing on my older Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 3
laptop, also running the latest 7.3.6.2 version of OpenOffice and the same
latest fully updated version of Ubuntu 22.04, but I also use my laptop much
less than my desktop for creating a talk, mainly for displaying the .odp file.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 151398] New: Lost data not recovered

2022-10-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=151398

Bug ID: 151398
   Summary: Lost data not recovered
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.4.1.2 release
  Hardware: Other
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: ezgi00z...@gmail.com

Description:
While writing on LibreOffice Writer, I have noticed, that it would suddenly
freeze often (my PC is new, therefore I doubt it is its fault), I would often
save my data, in case the application would crash and I would lose my data, but
sadly it still happened. The program did tell me it would recover lost data but
when I opened the document, I noticed that around 300 words were missing and
not recovered. I cannot find a way to retrieve them back and I did try
searching in Paths. Please tell me there is another way to find them, because
even if it does not sound like much, it was very important to me and I will not
remember the words the same way I wrote them down, especially because I have
been writing at 2am.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Write
2. App freezes
3. Program crashes
4. Recover data

Actual Results:
Does not recover the most recent lost data

Expected Results:
Retrieve document with all the text written that was saved

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

On Win10 in Dark mode with both ghostscript and ImageMagick helpers on os PATH

Can not confirm.

The EPS images are visible on Windows builds but still require functional
"helper" ImageMagick, ghostscript--and possibly pstoedit for EPS as vector
image.

Can not confirm. Not seeing an issue for menus/context menus with Windows 11
set to Dark mode and LibreOffice 7.4.1 installed with its "Experimental
features" checked--to allow it to toggle to support for dark mode active.

Nor on current master against 7.5 where the Windows Dark mode support has been
moved from experimental.

For OP, if you restart LO in safe mode (or rename your user profile
%APPDATA%/LibreOffice) and then select Experimental Features to fully enable
LibreOffice Dark mode support--do the context menus receive correct fg/bg
coloring?

Ok, then can you provide the commit in which the fix is provided, and close
this bug as FIXED?
I can discuss the problem with the big space in another bug report.

Spindump when LO hangs

Hi Alex Thurgood,

Thanks for your continued attention, review of potential dup reports, and
providing a reasonable expectation in terms of what would need to occur for
this issue to be root caused by a developer and fixed.

Attached is the promised spindump.

In terms of reproduction scenario, when using the Rectangle keyboard hotkeys to
flip the LO window around quickly, it seemed to cause the hang more quickly
versus waiting for it happen organically.

> What are the "crop to" capabilities in some dialogs?

In a PDF made for the print, you can have different crops.
Well, i know the names in french, not sure what they are in english, but to
make it simple, you have the principal "view" crop that shoes only the center
of the PDF (what people will see when printed paper will be cut), you have an
"extended" crop that shoes everything in the PDF that printer need to make the
job.

I hope my explanation can light you on what "crop to" means for a PDF
insertion.

Insert PDF as image was implemented for bug 89727 and uses a different pdfium
render engine rather than cairo. Additional enhancement is still needed to work
against multi-page PDF.

In the meanwhile, users continue to need to extract PDF pages external to
LibreOffice, for which the PDFtk or ghostscript work well.

Using the cairo based PDF importing to a draw canvas (or to Writer or Impress)
sufferes from poor fidelity in rendering the PDF elements to Draw objects.
Fidelity is poor compared to the pdfium based insert.

Currently this is not supported. What some users do is to insert as a Draw OLE
object and then edit the OLE object using Draw. See:

https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/insert-multi-page-pdf-as-image-how/77007/7

However, this is not a perfect solution.

IMO this is an interesting request. Let's hear the opinion of the UX team.
