Version 1.3.5 of the Barcode extension (as now included in LO -3-5 and
master repos) is still broken. Its META-INF/manifest.xml still claims
 the included barcode-loader.py is an old-style (i.e.,
 active-registration) component
 (application/vnd.sun.star.uno-component;type=Python), but
 barcode-loader.py still has no writeRegistryInfo.
However we are using old style active registration, we got
writeRegistryInfo method in extensioncore.py:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~kami911/eoec/barcode-improved/view/head:/examples/Barcode/barcode/extensioncore.py

The fix what we needed is:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~kami911/eoec/barcode-improved/revision/60

Is it okay, or active registration should be avoided in the future?

Sounds rather promising :-) clearly we'd want to get an MPL/LGPLv3+
 license on the code,
I started a discussion about licenses. I hope we will have dual license.
Maybe it takes some time for Multiráció (creator of EOEC) depending on
other things.
and ensure that it is cleanly integrated and fits
into the UI nicely - can you ask about that ?
The UI is provided by LibreOffice itself, EOEC uses native dialogs. For
integration work I hope I can help.

Does your barcode extension use it at run-time, or just for building
 the extension ?
EOEC provides a standard and debug mode. If you use standard mode, the
EOEC provides useful functions for extensions for installation, menu
registartion, drawing, etc. In debug mode, the developer can change the
source code then see his chages real-time. So Barcode uses EOEC at
run-time, that provides such functionality also creates the extension.

   Michael.

[Libreoffice] SmART Gallery as integrated part of LibreOffice core

2011-10-25 Thread KálmánKAMISzalai
Hi LibreOffice Fans,

We (my friend Tibusz and me) are thinking about to integrate SmART into
LibreOffice suite. I hope you saw the ligtning talk about SmART. What
you think about this extension? What is your opinion about the
integration? We know this is currently impossible because SmART uses
Java. So we have plan to reimplement the SmART Gallery in C++. Of course
we do this huge task only if there is a chance to make SmART Gallery
functionality integral part of LibO. Should we create a chart2 like
module for SmART or what would be the best solution? If our plan get
green light from you we need a mentor who help us.

Introduction of SmART Gallery:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Extensions/SmART_Gallery

Extension release:
http://extensions-test.libreoffice.org/extension-center/smart/releases

Any opinion is appreciated.

Best regards,

Re: [Libreoffice] [PATCH] Updated extensions

2011-08-15 Thread KálmánKAMISzalai

Hi Petr,

AFAIK the LO is not affected by these changes. None of these extensions
is packed by LibreOffice.

The updates of LightProof was:

- fix option saving in LibreOffice

- fix localization of the name of the grammar checker in
OpenOffice.org/LibreOffice Options

- support multiple options in the same line in the Options dialog

- new functions: stem(), generate()

- improved Hungarian and Russian rules

(I really don't know where is the source of LightProof. Maybe the
development framework contains the requested files.

Google Docs extension is hosted here:

http://code.google.com/p/ooo2gd/

You can check the changes here.

SmART is hosted here:

It most likely comes from some missing update in some other module

2011-03-02 Thread KálmánKAMISzalai
Compression time (in the tinderbox) was:
runtime: 1087.37 (minutes)
now:
runtime: 1232.32 (minutes)

Is it okay for us? Or it is too big penalty? I asked Fridrich to make
available the latest tb Windows build for download. I would like to
check the installer size and performance.

Thanks, I just wanted to follow your helpful spreeadsheet :o).
So I went to other direction, whatif I increase the efficiency of LZM
compression of makecab. I found that we can use .Set CompressionMemory=
21 setting. This setting produces 83,91% of original installer size and
Oh - nice :-) that solves the install-space problem as well.
\o/
In the gray section I tried a special way when I uncompressed every
zip container (ODF, JAR, ZIP, etc) in the installset and every file
contains only stored data without compression. In this way I was able
to gain more 15 MB, but this require zip recompressing at the end of
installation process that may make it to complex and time consuming.
Please check the attached document, and if you want to go with it
 apply the attached patches.
Oh ! that sounds fun :-) 15Mb for that. Actually on master - we could
use flat ODF files and get the same result (for some on-disk size
growth) without having to re-compress, and they're dead fast in master.

So - personally, I find it amazing that ZIP is better than LZMA - ever,
it is such an older compression algorithm, and this flies in the face of
everything I've seen in practise with it [ eg. we use LZMA for our RPMs
in openSUSE these days AFAIR, better than bzip2, which in turn was
better than .tgz (essentially zip) ].
I think the story is a bit different. Recompressing the already
compressed data is a simply waste of time and horsepower. It is always
better to compress uncompressed data. If you comapre zip and LZMA on the
whole uncompressed installer I am sure LZMA will provide much better
compression ratio.
It'd be great to commit the first patch but can we instead hack:

   solenv/bin/modules/installer/globals.pm to patch:

 $cabfilecompressionlevel = 7;

rather than hard-coding that and leaving the variable there.

The second - can you really confirm that LZMA is worse than zip ?
As I described below, I think as always recompressing compressed files
may have penalty in term of compression ration.
   Anyhow - great work :-)
I will provide a patch for it, thanks.
   Michael.

[Libreoffice] Windows installer size reduction effort - the compression theory

2011-02-20 Thread KálmánKAMISzalai
Hi,

I am sure we can shrink the installer more with better compression
settings. Unfortunately I am not able to try these theory now because I
have problem with Windows based build system. So any participation
related to this topic is welcome

The current situation:
We are using double compression for creating LibreOffice install kit for
Windows:

1) Compressed CAB file contains the installable files
2) The installation system is packed into the NSIS based preinstaller.

According to
solenv/bin/modules/installer/globals.pm
solenv/bin/modules/installer/windows/msiglobal.pm
setup_native/source/win32/nsis/downloadtemplate.nsi

For cab file compression we are using:
globals.pm
cabfilecompressionlevel = 7

and

msiglobal.pm
.Set CompressionType=LZX
.Set Compress=ON
.Set CompressionLevel=cabfilecompressionlevel=7
options.

For NSIS based presintaller we are using:
SetCompressor lzma
option.

So currently we use a high compression for cab file generation which
produces small file but takes more time. Then recompress it with lzma
that may not able to compress so much but takes long time. However we
use NSIS in SetCompress auto mode that might causes compression test and
if it is not enough good it drops the compressed file and use the
original cab file.

My idea is to use only one tight compressor and the other archiver
should used in store or zip mode. So there is to way to rethink the
compression practice:

1) Maximize the compression of CAB files and minimalize NSIS compression:
This produces a smaller cab file but if the installer request files
in non other sequence as compressed may we pay penalty in uncompression
time.

For this we can use CAB compression settings:
.Set CompressionType=LZX
.Set Compress=ON
.Set CompressionMemory= 21

(We can eliminate .Set CompressionLevel=cabfilecompressionlevel=7 maybe
it is useful for MSZIP compression (or not))

For NSIS we use simple store or small compression:

a)
SetCompress Off
SetDatablockOptimize On

b)
SetCompress Force
SetCompressor zlib
SetDatablockOptimize On

OR

2) CAB file only store the installer's files and NSIS compression set to
high:
This may produces the smallest installer so I would try this for
first. The compression of NSIS takes time but decompression speed is and
also the installation is fast. Thepreinstallation may takes
dictionary equivalent memory usage so we should not set Dictionary size
larger than 32-64 MB. The only negative effect, the preinstalled
(unpacked) installer uses same diskspace as the fully installed package
(For installation we need at least twice space of full installation).

For this we can use CAB store setting:
.Set Compress=OFF

For NSIS we use simple store or small compression:

SetCompress Auto
SetCompressor /SOLID lzma
SetCompressorDictSize 64
SetDatablockOptimize On

References:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb417343.aspx

http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/advanced-nsis-scripting-part-1

The SetCompressorDictSize accepts one setting, which is the number of
megabytes to use for the dictionary size. The greater this number, the
more memory is required to execute the installation. The memory
requirement to run the installer will be the dictionary size plus about
4 megabytes or so. The default dictionary size is 8 megabytes. You can
get a slightly better compression ratio by changing this to 16, 32, or
64. You can set this up to 128 or possibly higher, but you won't notice
much difference when you use a dictionary size greater than 64.

With that in mind, I suggest that you use SetCompressorDictSize 64,
but you can experiment with this value to see what works best for your
particular installer.

http://nsis.sourceforge.net/Docs/Chapter4.html#4.8.2.3

What is your opinion? Can somebody test it on a real Windows build system?

I can help to integrate it to the git repo. But here we should define

Because the currently packaged icons refer to the wrong product - using
the (so called) Sun S-curve, adding OOo Galaxy Style colors and adding

Concerning the latter, and since I consider myself to be an animal

We don't know if there will be a chance to integrate them in the final

is ready), but even if they make it in LibO 3.3.1 only, we need to know
how to format the icons and what are the names to be used for easiest
 packaging.

The ODF icon page [1] shows several file names (probably used in OOo).
Are they the same in LibO?

With the proper information the design team will try to provide the

 Hi there,

It would be wonderful if we could get LibreOffice covered by the
Coverity Scan. LibreOffice ( based on OpenOffice.org [ cf.
 http://libreoffice.org/ ] ) is now a vendor neutral code-base, managed
for the benefit of the community (including several companies), and of
course we are using a Free Software license.

Furthermore, we have lots of new blood looking for interesting, and
digestible hacking problems, and I suspect your results would help
 greatly with this.

Details on how to get the source are here:

   http://www.documentfoundation.org/develop/

Although, the main bulk of the source is checked out from git during
the 'download' process, the repositories can be seen here:

   http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice

Hopefully, since you covered OpenOffice.org before it shouldn't be
impossible to get covered (?) :-)

   Many thanks,

   Michael.

 Looks good to me.
I might have lost track of changes due to the multiple patches here and
in https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31798, but there are a
few things that make little sense to me:
 - This would remove OpenOffice.org and everything that used to be in
   oracle.dic
Great catch. I guess that KAMI have just missed it. It is a language
independent product name and it is perfectly fine to have it in the
 technical.dic.

 - ...but it adds the word MySQL
 MySQL looks fine.

 - It adds the whole family tree of Ubuntu
 - ...but it doesn't add GNU/Linux or just GNU and Linux, and it
   removes Linux instead
 GNU and Linux sounds reasonable

 - It removes Oracle and it adds Novell, but it ignores all the
   companies listed in http://www.documentfoundation.org/supporters/
 Oracle is fine as well.

 - It removes all the application names: Writer, Calc, Impress...
Hmm, I am not sure if these are language independent names. Sophie, what
 do you think?

KAMI, could you please take care of this discussion and add the
 requested words to git?

 Are these choices deliberate?
We wanted to remove oracle.dic because it include many generic English
words, e.g. Time, Tools, Use, Value, Work.
 http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/extras/commit/?h=libreoffice-3-3id=7fbdfd0a0d2af30af92839ebf8bcf97c46551
is just the first draft. Such dictionaries are always work in progress.
Feel free to suggest list of more missing words.

Re: [Libreoffice] [PATCH] set the icons size based on the DPI just like we do on Mac

 Hi Robert,
On large numbers of machines, nDispDPI is just broken - it is fetched
(AFAIR) from Xft - and is ~hard-coded to 75 everywhere to save lots of
grief from X servers getting it horribly wrong.

So - the net effect of this is to simply default to tiny icons, even on
 huge screens.
Good to know :oD Thanks!
I prefer small icons, no matter what. Icons are there to preserve
space, provide access to functionality, not to waste my screen-estate
 with pretty pictures.
Sure - but you know what the icons do :-) and you are expert with the
keybindings. Of course - if you are an expert, you can turn the icons to
a smaller size too ;-) Personally, my emacs has no toolbar, or menu bar
but ... this is not a good default.
;o)
So - I would prefer to stick with large icons; and not use the DPI
setting. I suggest instead, that we only use large icons if the true Y
resolution 768 - how does that sound ?
So I am with Robert, I prefer small icons. I using this settings in my
laptop
(1440x900) and icons are recognisable easily (I prefer Galaxy (original
set) over others). Why do we force big icons? Is it a customer request,
or UX decision? I am using 22 monitor and 1920x1080 is comfortable for
me with small icons.

   Michael.

Ok :oD

Heh, I wonder how the binary dictionaries were created. I guess that it

We should ask it on L10N list. Maybe update would be nice.

Re: [Libreoffice] [PATCH] Standard-color-palette-updates

2010-12-27 Thread KálmánKAMISzalai
Dear Christoph,

I wanted to include the original palette, but:

* This palette is not complete, I miss some other cool colors
* For compatibility reason I would like to keep the legacy palette
* For consistency I would include Chart color too

If you want I would create patch that contains the LibreOffice colors,
then chart colors and finally the legacy color palette.

 this issue ... does it?

I disagree here, we should distibute standard fonts. We have more
Windows user than all other. So I would like to keep the current default.

In master there is a autogen.lastrun file with proper (I think) quoting.

Hi LibreOffice Hackers,

I have got a problem with config.log configuration reusing with the
old "build" method on libreoffice-3-3 branch:

When run ./autogen.sh --with-lang="en-US de hu it fr" blah blah
blah it stored as:
--with-lang=en-US de hu it fr blah blah  blah

but next time when I use ./autogen.sh to reconfigure I got:
--with-lang="en-US" de hu it fr blah blah  blah
which is bad.

Did you experience same bad behavior?

  Hi,

there is already a Netbeans-Plug-In for OOo. But this plug-in doesn't work for me
with LibreOffice and it's SDK. Because of this I'm curious, if someone is working on
such a plug-in for LibreOffice.

That's surely a terrible idea. Now we default to building something
which isn't the same as what will realistically be deployed, Base won't
work out of box and all java extensions won't work.

I agree. However can we see what we lose with java enabled builds

We have basically asked for these types of mails and I am very happy to
see them coming in. Independent on which organizatino will be paying the
bill. This one is very much on-topic. Also, it has not been the
organization sending the mail, but one individual who (rightfully)
thought people could be interested to get more resources to dedicate
 time to LO.

But I am going to shut up now on this thread.

Just so it doesn't get lost. Attached is the patch that moves all
hi-contrast icons as per hicontrast-icons-to-theme.pl (or whatever it is
called in solvenv/bin) to it's own theme directory. This patch should
not yet be applied until the corresponding changes are being checked in
for the makefiles at the same time.

I am currently building a clean build and will try to come up with the
makeline.mk patch to install those icons (retiring
hicontrast-icons-to-theme.pl at the same time). It is weird to have a
script to fish out some icons to put them in a separate directory,
rather than separating them out in the first place.

[Libreoffice] Decrease installer size by 1 MB for each language

2010-11-01 Thread KálmánKAMISzalai
Hi All,

I would like to consulate related to topic. I found that every wizards'
bitmap enclosed for every language however it has no language dependent
bitmaps in it. My suggestion to remove language dependency, so we can
save around 1 MB of every installer. I created two patches however they
are POC. Lets discuss it, then I finalize this fix.

components/wizards
extras/extras/source/templates/wizard/bitmap
scp2

Also some of bitmaps may be removable.

Thank you for advance!
