Error occurs, when typing correct

2024-01-16 Thread Walter Bettler
Dear developer, the following error happens at least in the German
/Swiss German language.

Observations :
- when i type an apostrophe in an empty excel field, it appears an
apostrophe = correct

- when i write any word in an empty excel field, and i add an apostrophe,
  then it appears NOT an apostrophe, but a ">" at the end of the word.

- when i write any word in an empty excel field, and i add an empty
space and an apostrophe,

  then it appears NOT an apostrophe, but a "<" at the end of the word.

Note : in the German language we often add an apostrophe followed by a
letter "s", at genitives.

Please would you repair this error.
Have a nice day.

Hello

Is this test library still maintained?

If so, is there a way to run tests in parallel to take advantage of multi

My experience is the opposite; I occasionally see a cl.exe taking over 25%
CPU on a four-core system (not HT)... Might of course just be rounding
errors; in any case for compilations taking a long time, it is quite close
to 25%

Yes. But that is not used *on* Windows. The subject of this thread is "Building
LibreOffice *on* Windows".

MinGW (the commonly used name for the GNU compiler and tool-chain when
targeting Windows) is supported only for cross-compiling LibreOffice.
The main reason to use MinGW is to be able to cross-compile.
(Cross-compile from Linux or some other Unix, that is.)

We don't see any point in using MinGW to build LibreOffice on Windows itself.
If one wants to build on Windows itself, why not then use Microsoft's compiler,
and be able to use the much more usable VS debugger?

So far not all of the code is even compilable using MinGW due to gaps in the
APIs supported by the MinGW tool-chain.

OpenOffice.org, at least back when Sun/Oracle still was behind it, had a few
(?) people working on using MinGW on Windows. We are not interested in that.
Correspondingly they had not worked on cross-compilation (to any platform) at
all as far as I know.

When I say "we" above, I mean "those of us who have worked on this stuff so far
in LibreOffice". Of course, you are free to think differently and work on using
MinGW on Windows, if you for some reason think it would be a good idea. As long
as your patches don't make stuff incredibly ugly and complex, they will be
accepted. But you get to maintain that aspect yourself, of course.

Hm, localize (localize.exe) should be delivered there from module l10ntools.
Can you check whether there is any localize* in that directory?

Also, module translations should only be built if you configure
--with-lang=... If you do not need anything but the default en-US
localization, you can try whether a build without that switch works better.

Windows desktop developer and large open source projects

2012-02-19 Thread walter
The learning curve for developers to become valid for a large open source
project is particularly steep (git, java,perl, python, c ++, c #, project
architecture, project philosophy, . many, too many technologies, to learn
in a short time).
Who, like me, every day develops Windows desktop applications (. NET)
without a strong source control system in considerable difficulty.
I use only some basic functions of svn.

Probably the biggest problem is the development philosophy that is radically
different.
Windows developers who use only the tools found in the MSDN think in a way
totally different from those who develop an open source project with open
technologies.
I have a long past of system administrator and I know very well Unix shell /
awk, but I'm not developing Linux applications.
I believe that in addition to the information in the wiki is interesting to
provide some simple scripts that allow you to quickly start the initial
work.

I think it is necessary to find a way to reduce the gap between these two
environments in order to facilitate the windows developers to enter the
world of open source technologies.
In http://pastebin.com/u/walterLO I will upload some simple scripts that
might be of interest to developers who are in my same position.
can you check their validity?
If you think that these simple scripts are useful feel free to post them in
the wiki.

It depends what you want to achieve. If you want to get a bug fixed
that is not Windows specific, your quickest and easiest route is to build
inside a Linux virtual machine.

Otherwise - you get to try to configure a windows machine with cygwin,
and just the right mix / versions of the compilers etc. and this will take a
man day+ to get right :-) Because it is proprietary OS, compilers, downloads
etc. we can't do ~anything to make that easier for you (which sucks). Of
course, the more people that build on windows, the better it will become (to
some limit caused by the above) - so help appreciated.

Anyhow - welcome to the project & I look forward to seeing your work /
helping you out with some code pointers.

R: Building LibreOffice on Windows

2012-02-16 Thread walter

>In other words, you are doing this commercially, as part of your job, for
business purposes?
[walter] YES

>So you are instead demanding that the "community" (which consists of
volunteers spending their own personal resources, and paid developers
working for >companies that might even be your competitors in some
 >sense) "waste" *their* time in helping you in your commercial efforts?
 >That sounds a bit unfair or even rude to me. But let's assume that was not
the intent and I am just interpreting you badly.
[walter] NO,
My only problem is knowing whether to invest my time in 'cygwin' or Linux.
I need to build a customized version, and the new code will be returned to
the community

R: Building LibreOffice on Windows

2012-02-16 Thread walter

I am a windows developer and I need to integrate LibreOffice in our windows
business application.
I would have a hard time switching to develop using Linux.
But the real problem is that if the community does not want or can not
support then development on the windows platform is good for me to say this
very clearly.
I can not go and play around and waste time in this way.

R: Building LibreOffice on Windows

2012-02-16 Thread walter
In the long run the best choice is definitely to abandon cygwin and develop
using Linux.

I used cygwin for a little while and I've seen that is not well supported L
Which version of Linux is better to use?
There are big differences between using Ubuntu and CentOS?

windows / cygwin build freezes using --with-lang=it [SOLVED]

2012-02-10 Thread walter
Using a different autogen.sh configuration all work fine and the build
process generate the following installer:

LibO-Dev_3.5.1rc0_Win_x86_install_en-US_it.msi

My autogen.sh

#---
-

_JOBS_="--with-max-jobs=4"

_CPUS_="--with-num-cpus=4"

_JUNIT_="--without-junit"

_ANT_="--with-ant-home=/cygdrive/c/cygwin/libreoffice/apache-ant-1.8.2"

_MOZ_="--disable-build-mozilla
--with-mozilla-build=/cygdrive/c/cygwin/libreoffice/mozilla-build"

_JAVA_="--with-java-target-version=1.6

_MISC_="--disable-binfilter"

#---
-

./autogen.sh $_JOBS_ $_CPUS_ $_JUNIT_ $_ANT_ $_MOZ_ $_JAVA_ $_WINSDK_
$_LANG_ $_MISC_

I don't know if the problem was jobs=8, cpu=8 or not using
'-disable-binfilter'.

I will try again to discover the fault.

Do you have 8 core CPU? If not, do not set these values, configure will set
them for you to reasonable values.
Also check the version of make. make 3.81 shipped with cygwin is buggy.
Use make 3.82 from http://dev-www.libreoffice.org/bin/cygwin/make
