Error occurs, when typing correct
Dear developer, the following error happens at least in the German /Swiss German language. Observations : - when i type an apostrophe in an empty excel field, it appears an apostrophe = correct - when i write any word in an empty excel field, and i add an apostrophe, then it appears NOT an apostrophe, but a ">" at the end of the word. - when i write any word in an empty excel field, and i add an empty space and an apostrophe, then it appears NOT an apostrophe, but a "<" at the end of the word. Note : in the German language we often add an apostrophe followed by a letter "s", at genitives. Please would you repair this error. Have a nice day. Walter Bettler

Yes. But that is not used *on* Windows. The subject of this thread is "Building LibreOffice *on* Windows". MinGW (the commonly used name for the GNU compiler and tool-chain when targeting Windows) is supported only for cross-compiling LibreOffice. The main reason to use MinGW is to be able to cross-compile. (Cross-compile from Linux or some other Unix, that is.) We don't see any point in using MinGW to build LibreOffice on Windows itself. If one wants to build on Windows itself, why not then use Microsoft's compiler, and be able to use the much more usable VS debugger? So far not all of the code is even compilable using MinGW due to gaps in the APIs supported by the MinGW tool-chain. OpenOffice.org, at least back when Sun/Oracle still was behind it, had a few (?) people working on using MinGW on Windows. We are not interested in that. Correspondingly they had not worked on cross-compilation (to any platform) at all as far as I know. When I say "we" above, I mean "those of us who have worked on this stuff so far in LibreOffice". Of course, you are free to think differently and work on using MinGW on Windows, if you for some reason think it would be a good idea. As long as your patches don't make stuff incredibly ugly and complex, they will be accepted. But you get to maintain that aspect yourself, of course. --tml ___ LibreOffice mailing list LibreOffice@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice ___ LibreOffice mailing list LibreOffice@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice

Windows desktop developer and large open source projects
The learning curve for developers to become valid for a large open source project is particularly steep (git, java, perl, python, c ++, c #, project architecture, project philosophy, . many, too many technologies, to learn in a short time). Who, like me, every day develops Windows desktop applications (. NET) without a strong source control system in considerable difficulty. I use only some basic functions of svn. Probably the biggest problem is the development philosophy that is radically different. Windows developers who use only the tools found in the MSDN think in a way totally different from those who develop an open source project with open technologies. I have a long past of system administrator and I know very well Unix shell / awk, but I'm not developing Linux applications. I believe that in addition to the information in the wiki is interesting to provide some simple scripts that allow you to quickly start the initial work. I think it is necessary to find a way to reduce the gap between these two environments in order to facilitate the windows developers to enter the world of open source technologies. In http://pastebin.com/u/walterLO I will upload some simple scripts that might be of interest to developers who are in my same position. can you check their validity? I have a 4 core cpu with hyper-threading enabled. I'm already using make 3.82. If I don't use 'lang=.. ' all works fine ! If not, do not set these values, configure will set them for you to reasonable values. Also check the version of make. make 3.81 shipped with cygwin is buggy. Use make 3.82 from http://dev-www.libreoffice.org/bin/cygwin/make Best regards, Andras ___ LibreOffice mailing list LibreOffice@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice
