Document where the copywrite symbol in the footer turns into a heart

In a .doc document, I have a copywrite symbol (C) followed by the year. When I
open this document in Writer, the (C) is still there, but when I saved it using
4.0 rc1, it turned into a heart. Cute, but wrong.

Using the character viewer in MacOS X 10.8.2, Writer 4.0, rc3, I chose the (C)
symbol, but I get a heart. This only applies to the footer. I can insert a (C)
symbol in the main document.

The same issue appears when I instead use a .dot template file. I include an
example of the latter.
