You are using a different operating system, and maybe a different version of
Writer. Writer do not fit in 4 MB of memory, so that your Windows do not allow
for all

Windows XP Home SP3 also do not allow for all used memory in general, but
sometimes do. The full memory using of all programs was 1.27 GB, and after the
exiting from the Writer, at now this

I selected the proper file type, and Writer used more than 512 MB after the
opening, and more than 1 GB while editing.

I can not reproduce the memory issue.
After about ten minutes, the memory use for soffice.bin is about 4 Mb and the
time percent of cpu is 0%.

I think the issue is that by default without select the proper file type, no
options window, but if you select in the file type Text Encoded (is needed to
go down in the list)
