[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 118165] Adding a new paragraph to a text block is rather CPU hogging

Actually: in Win master, spellchecking did not function at first with the
default Dutch. I switched it to English (USA) to get spellchecking.

I did another test to give exact numbers.

On Linux:
It takes 43 seconds with Master.
It takes 50 seconds with 5.3.6.1 (Appimage)

So yeah, no regression on Linux after all.

On Windows:
It takes 20 seconds with 5.3.0.
It never goes to maximum with 6.2 and the little CPU bump goes to 0 in a couple
of seconds.

Spellchecking was functioning correctly in all builds.

So something seems to have happened very recently. I guess I should do a new
Linux master build in case it is as recent as the past 2 days.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 118466] New: EDITING: Clicking the Sum toolbar button (Σ) after using Select All gives unexpected results

2018-06-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=118466

Bug ID: 118466
Summary: EDITING: Clicking the Sum toolbar button (Σ) after
using Select All gives unexpected results
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.0.5.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: rwcar...@gmail.com

Description:
The toolbar button for Sum (Σ) should sum up only the contents of the
filled-cells and output to an adjacent area instead of the extreme corners for
the entire worksheet.

This operation as currently implemented also takes longer than is necessary
because instead of summing only the contents of a few cells, it tries to work
on the entire sheet (1023 columns x 1048575 rows).

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enter in 1 and 1 in separate rows in a new sheet (Cells A1 and A2).

2. Select All using any method (Edit > Select All / Ctrl+A / Cmd+A /
Ctrl+Shift+Space).

3. Click the Sum button (Σ) in the toolbar (to the left of the Formula Input
line).

Actual Results:
- Calc will try to work on the entire sheet.

- Outputs will be entered into each corner of the sheet (use Ctrl+Arrow or
Cmd+Arrow to jump to the end of the sheet): Cells AMJ1, AMJ2, AMJ1048576 and
A1048576.

- The operation will take a long time and force one CPU core to be at 100% for
about 12 seconds in 6.1.0.0.beta2 and 18 seconds in 6.0.5.2 with an Intel(R)
Core(TM) i3-4130 CPU @ 3.40GHz) (as reported by lscpu).

- It will appear to the user as if LibreOffice Calc has frozen.

Expected Results:
In this example the calculation should only be applied to the filled cells and
result should output to Cell A3 only.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
Tested with LibreOffice 6.0.5.2 and 6.1.0.0.beta2 on both Fedora 28 and macOS
10.13.5 - I believe the behaviour in Windows will be the same (to be
confirmed).

While the user will quickly learn to not press the Sum after a Select All
again, Gnumeric and Excel both correctly lead the user to summing and
outputting to A3. Interestingly, Google Sheets and Apple Numbers also have less
desirable outcomes (but no CPU spikes).

With Calc, the user might think Calc has hung and might forcibly terminate it -
potentially leading to data loss.

A previous version on Mac (I believe 6.0.1) was also tested and showed
completely different totals - so this may or may not be of interest.

** Please read this message in its entirety before responding **

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:

I tested with 6.1 beta2 / Windows 7, took 3 measurements that turned out to be:
10s, 15s and 25s.
On the other hand, with 5.4.0.3 it was 53s.

Not sure if any conclusion can be drawn from this.

Bug ID: 118465
Summary: RTF import does not reapeat header / repeat heading /
repeat as header row for table
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.0.0.3 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer

Created attachment 143215

Example RTF file, as created by MS Word 2010

I'm currently trying to use libreoffice to batch convert some documents (RTF in
this case) to PDFs, however after investigating it became clear that the table
header row repeat isn't being correctly handled.

I am attaching an example .rtf file which was created by MS Word 2010, as well
as the PDF renderings made by that same version of MS Word and LibreOffice 6.

Bug ID: 118464

Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: flywi...@gmail.com

Description:
New documents are given a default filename of Untitled 1 (where 1 is a series
number). It would be more reasonable to use the template filename followed by
series number if filename already exists in directory (ie similar to MS
Office). Currently I need to retain template filename, change extension (since
new document is not a template) and save document to a new directory.

I notice the filename is displayed in File, Properties, General tab.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open calc template
2. Save file

Actual Results:
Saves as Untitled 1 (where 1 is a series number)

Expected Results:
Saves as actual TemplateFilename1 (where 1 is a series number)

Reproducible: Always

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 118424] Unusable font files installed by LibreOffice 6 on Windows.

As I documented at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/issues/1366#note_257590
there are actually two font files that will make GIMP crash:
 - DejaVuSans.ttf
 - DejaVuSans-Bold.ttf

Two other files will allow GIMP to run, but make it display missing-character
rectangles on its filter toolbox:
 - DejaVuSans-Oblique.ttf
 - DejaVuSans-BoldOblique.ttf

The remaining 168 TTFs installed by LibreOffice do not seem to cause any
problems.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 105207] Crash while calling MRI when it is not loaded.

2018-06-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105207

So, I tried the attached file from this issue under both the latest 6.2 and
Version: 5.4.7.2, both under Ubuntu.

With no MRI installed there is no crash.

With the latest MRI installed it is called without problem.

Then I installed one of the old versions MRI, under these newer Libo version
that doesn't install properly, what you get is a grayed out entry under
extensions.

With that setup, running the macro in the test file here at first seemed to be,
it threw an error, but didn't crash immediately; it did however hang when I
went to close the odt file.

Still given that it didn't crash if MRI really wasn't installed but only when a
broken (old) version of MRI was installed, though disabled, I would say this
not an open issue or should go to WorksForMe.

It was updated the end of 2016 v1.3.3 is available and I've installed it
without a problem under versions up through 6.2, successfully.

https://extensions.openoffice.org/en/project/mri-uno-object-inspection-tool

The URL in the earlier comment goes to an older listing for the extension.

As for the issue, using Ubuntu 18.04 and 6.2 Alpha0 build.

Calling MRI when it is not installed does not crash the application, in fact it
is totally silent. I used a python script embedded in an attachment from an
issue here, ran it with a call back enabled and mri installed it was called and
ran properly.
Closed the file, removed MRI, restarted Libo, ran the same file with the same
script and it was fine, it just ignored the MRI call as far as I could tell. I
didn't look to check that the script isn't handling the error silently, which
is what I expect but either way it doesn't crash the application with this
script.

The oldest version I have installed now is 5.4.7 and will check it there also.

I've observed the following:

-As soon as I select Edit Mode, the document jumps up or down a few centimeters
depending on if I'm changing it to read only or not.

-While in read only mode, home moves it to the left or end moves it to the
right but not both. (once I click one of them, the other does nothing).

-While in read only mode, the left and right arrows do nothing. The up and down
arrows do move the document up and down, respectively.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 118460] New: Legal Document Has Lots of Issues in LibreOffice

2018-06-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=118460

Bug ID: 118460
Summary: Legal Document Has Lots of Issues in LibreOffice
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.0.4.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: jmadero@gmail.com

Description:
Hi All,

I'm happy to divide this up over multiple bug reports but that'll take more
time so hopefully one is enough. This document is from a template that we use
in my office for our trial briefs. I was hoping to slowly move to LibreOffice
entirely at work but this document shows why that is currently impossible.

Problems Listed:
(1) Line numbering not respected, in MS Office the first line corresponds with
"SUNORNORYSR STYSPTTTXN" in LibreOffice the first line is actually pretty much
between these two lines: "ZRysputy ZRrststrrstzt Xttornysy, SXN ttrstt8awertt"
& "tt TTT. Strysyst, Sursttys rws000"
(2) Margins not respected at all - in particular at the bottom, in MS Office
there is no overlap into the footer (and beyond) while in LibreOffice text from
the body overlaps footer/margin area substantially
(3) Related to 2 - I'd imagine largely because of 2, the actual words don't
match up to the pages, any court would reject this document if it came from
LibreOffice;
(4) Footer - completely missing
(5) Page # on the bottom center - completely missing
(6) Related to 2 and 3 maybe - the actual page count is significantly
different. MS Office has the document at 11 pages, LibreOffice has it at 9.
Could be entirely due to #2 and #3

I am still looking over the documents but figured this is a good start.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open attached document in LibreOffice and MS Office
2. Compare the points listed in the description

Actual Results:
See description.

Expected Results:
Should be the same product with MSO and LibreOffice

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
I honestly think that this qualifies for major as it demonstrates serious
interop issues. But I'll leave that to others to judge.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 112805] Support for "size" (optical size) OpenType table

2018-06-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=112805

(In reply to Volga from comment #7)
> So LibreOffice should add a function to handle "size" feature via font size
> option.

No. When the "size" feature is enabled the font substitution should happen
automatically based on the font size selected.
Each font has a range of sizes for which it should be used.

Coelacanth font family for example:

Coelacanth has Optical Size features

Pearl
Design Size: 5.0
Range: 4.0 – 5.5

Subcapt
Design Size: 6.0
Range: 5.6 – 6.9

Caption
Design Size: 9.0
Range: 7.0 – 10.9

Regular
Design Size: 14.0
Range: 11.0 – 17.2

Subhd
Design Size: 24.0
Range: 17.3 – 32.9

Display
Design Size: 60.0
Range: 33.0 – 72.0

The actual font file used depends on the size the user selects.
If the user select 12pts as the size, the Regular font file will be used.
If the user select 18pts as the size, the Subhd font file will be used.
If the user select 48pts as the size, the Display font file will be used.

Apparently Harfbuzz does have this feature, but I did not see it anywhere in
Pango the text rendering engine docs.

This inability to properly select the different font weights in a font family
is a known problem.
That is why there is a "small and rather arbitrary selection" of the fonts
installed.
See:
Bug 69254 - Correct handling of font families (weight, style, stretches) on Mac
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=69254
Bug 98596 - Correct handling of font families (weight, style, stretches) on
Linux
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98596

Because of that problem it is doubtful this feature can be implemented.
That problem would have to be solved first.

For example in Coelacanth there are multiple weights for each optical size.
Which weight would be used would be random/broken like any other font family.
The same problem with most SemiBold fonts, even the ones included with
LibreOffice.

Until LibreOffice can fix the font families problems, this feature has no
chance.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 118459] New: Cross references to footnotes are not updated when inserting a new footnote with a lower number

2018-06-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=118459

Bug ID: 118459
Summary: Cross references to footnotes are not updated when
inserting a new footnote with a lower number
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.0.4.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: claudix.ker...@gmail.com

I have noticed that cross references to footnotes are not updated when I insert
a new footnote with a lower number. Let me explain this scenario.

I start with a document with three lines:

This is the first line
This is the second line
This is the third line

Then I do these steps:

 1. Insert a footnote on the second line, with text "Footnote A"
 2. Insert a cross-reference to that footnote on the third line and format the
number as superscript.

After this, I have the following text (NOTE: I use the caret ^ to depict a
superscript)

This is the first line
This is the second line ^1
This is the third line ^1

And at the bottom of the page, I have this footnote:

1 Footnote A

Good, so far. Now I want to put a footnote on the first line, with text
"Footnote B". Then, I get:

This is the first line ^1
This is the second line ^2
This is the third line ^1

As you can see, the third line's cross reference is not updated. At the bottom
of the page I have the expected footnotes:

1 Footnote B
2 Footnote A

The footnote references should be updated whenever the footnotes change. I
confirm this unexpected behaviour even after Tools>Update>Update All.

The charmap Special Character dialog has some quirks when the font selected
from the droplist does not include the specific codepoint or even the Unicode
subset of codepoints.

When the selected font has coverage of the glyph, the glyph preview, focus on
the charmap, and the subset droplist will hold on font change--this is correct.

But if the font selected (or changed font selection from droplist) does not
contain the glyph--several behaviors seem wrong.

What should the correct behavior(s) be?

Should the OS provided font substitution offer a replacment glyph?
- IMHO probably not (we'd loose precision of font use in the ODF)

Should the GUI warn the codepoint is not covered?
- seems we need attention
- bcz at present without "warning":
the position on the charmap shifts erratically,
the subset droplist shifts,
the preview glyph picks up a fallback font (wrongly suggesting coverage)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 118458] New: FILEOPEN PPTX Columns don’t appear in the text box in Impress

2018-06-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=118458

Bug ID: 118458
Summary: FILEOPEN PPTX Columns don’t appear in the text box in
Impress
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.2.0.0.alpha0+ Master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Keywords: filter:pptx
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Impress
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: kelem...@ubuntu.com

Created attachment 143207
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=143207=edit
Example file from Powerpoint

If we create a presentation with Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 and we insert a text
box on the slide, after we type text and create columns, then the text will
appear without columns in Impress.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a new document in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010.
2. Insert a text box.
3. Type text and set the style of the text to two or more columns.
4. Save the file as PPTX.
5. Open the same file in LibreOffice Impress.
6. Compare the original file opened in PowerPoint and Impress.

Actual results: The document has one column text in Impress.

Expected results: The text should preserve the original two columns.

LibreOffice details:

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 118165] Adding a new paragraph to a text block is rather CPU hogging

If it really started to be slow on Windows with my commit
559bb1420cd7fe699e139e20ea3b4205b9e6937d, then that would imply that:

1 it is related to some (language/spelling specific) extensions that cause the
slowness (and just didn't cause slowness before on Windows because those
extensions were effectively broken on Windows prior to my commit), and

2 it would likely be similarly slow (before and after my commit) on other
platforms, if you use the same/similar extensions (and locale) there.

Sorry if I caused confusion there: Whether those checkboxes are checked
doesn't make a difference to whether those extensions are active. The
checkboxes only control what subset of extensions is listed in the Extension
Manager dialog, so I only mentioned those checkboxes in case your Extension
Manager's list was empty when you nevertheless had some extensions installed
that were just not shown.

I have a list of extensions installed (I forgot about that). I likely copied
the dictionary's from a regular build to the "share\extensions" directory of
the bibisect folder

So yes, all three check boxes "Bundled with LibreOffice", "Installed for all
users", and "Installed for current user" are checked

Judging by your screenshot, and the fact that I can't reproduce this, I
speculate that you've chosen right-alignment but still have Left-to-Right
direction. That's not incompatible with the screenshot and assuming that's the
case, this is not a bug but intended behavior. If you want the _paragraph_,
rather than some run of text within the paragraph, to be RTL - and thus get its
bullet placed on the right - set the paragraph direction.

If I'm mistaken, please reopen and clarify what your alignment and direction
settings were - page, page element (content box) and specific paragraph.

Screenshots of bug

Just open attached file. There are 3 screenshots. The first one shows a
document with 2 pages separated by a manual page break in whitespace mode. Then
I deleted the page break. The second screenshot shows the result. There is
still a grey line between both text parts, though the entire text is on one
page now. Expected: No grey line any more. You can disable and enable the
whitspace mode. The third image shows the result. Then it's OK.

The function Whitespace was introduced in version 5.1.0. This bug also exists
since this version.

Tested with version 6.0.5 (64 bit, Win10).

I load up one of the LibrOffice user guides, which have plenty of custom
styles.

Both the toolbar and sidebar Styles drop down show a limited set of styles, and
both have a 'more styles' entry which if you select then lists all of the
styles in the document.

So, I'm not sure what it is that is the problem you are reporting.

Thanks

What that commit fixes is the following: Prior to that commit, some
extension-related data on Windows (and only on Windows) would not be available
to LO, so that some extensions may have not worked properly. (I'm not entirely
sure, but at least superficially it looks like that was broken ever since

"properly generate rc files" from 2013.)

Per-language dictionaries come as extensions, so this commit might in principle
make a difference here ("2. Enable Spell check" in comment 0) after all.
However:

* The bibisect-win32-5.4 repo appears to not include any bundled extensions at
all, and it uses its own UserInstallation, so should not have any shared or
per-user extensions installed unless you explicitly added some. Telesto, are
there any extensions listed under "Tools - Extension Manager..." with all three
check boxes "Bundled with LibreOffice", "Installed for all users", and
"Installed for current user" checked?

* Most dictionary extensions do not include any kind of data that would not be
available to LO prior to my commit, anyway, so should not be affected by that
commit. Only some spelling-related extensions like Lightproof (which is
included in the dictionaries for en, hu, pt-BR, and ru, I think, but not for
the nl-NL locale reported in comment 0) would be affected.

Indeed, without the file to test, we can't give it a try.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 118455] New: Definition List (or Definition Index) at the end of the page - EDITING

2018-06-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=118455

Bug ID: 118455
Summary: Definition List (or Definition Index) at the end of
the page - EDITING
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.0.1.1 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: cson...@halmai.hu

Description:
Similarly to the Alphabetical Index, I would like to build a definition list at
the end of the document. For example, if I write a 100 page long book about how
to use computers then I would specify the word "file" on the first page and
would use it several times later on.

With the current version of LibreOffice Writer, I can build an Index at the end
of the document that lists each important word and their locations of
occurrences but not their definition. Mostly, the first occurrence in the
document defines the term but not necessarily. Sometimes a term is defined
after building up some basic knowledge.

Depending on where it is defined, the reader has to jump at least twice to
reach the definition of a term:
- from the usage of the term to the end of the document where the index is
- from the index to the page of the firs occurrence
- and to other occurrences if the first place was not the definition.

Instead of this Index, I would like to build a List of Definitions at the end
of the document. See the attached sample.

The steps I would like to make:
- select a word (or some adjacent words as a complete expression) within the
document that I want to give the definition for.
- click a new menu item: Insert -> Table of Contents and Index -> Definition
List Entry
- in a pop-up dialog, the selected text (one or more words, let's call it
"term") would appear as the Term to Define
- I would be able to modify the term because the actual form in the text can
differ from the one that I want to define. For example, if I select
"algorithms" from the text then probably I still would like to define the
singular form "algorithm". (In other languages larger differences can also
occur.)
- When I press OK in the dialog then, similarly to how a Footnote is created,
the cursor would jump to the end of the document, the term would appear as a
read-only content and I would be able to enter the definition.
- if I select a term that already has been defined then I shouldn't be able to
create a new definition but the cursor should jump to the existing definition.

Some extra wishes:

It would be nice if I could specify the format of
- the terms in the Definition List
- the definitions and
- if they are written in a same paragraph or in two separated ones.

If the term and its definition appear in the same paragraph then they should be
formatted by two Character Styles (say Definition List Entry and Definition
List Definition)

However, if they are in two paragraphs (like the attached sample) then a
Paragraph Style should define how each looks.

Notes: this feature could be used not just in scientific documents. I can
imagine that a long fantasy story with hundreds of characters could also
benefit it.

Actual Results:
I cannot do it.

(Sorry, I have no idea what to write here in case of an enhancement when the
functionality doesn't exist at all but the form needs this field to fill.)

Expected Results:
I would like to do it.

(Sorry, I have no idea what to write here in case of an enhancement when the
functionality doesn't exist at all but the form needs this field to fill.)

Reproducible: Always

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 118454] New: Impress doesn't have word counter.

2018-06-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=118454

Bug ID: 118454
Summary: Impress doesn't have word counter.
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Impress
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: heitor...@gmail.com

Description:
I saw all documentation and couldn't find the Impress word counter. I've only
found word counter on Writer. Am I missing something? Is there a plan to
implement word counter on Impress?

Would be a word counter useful on Impress? Totally. People that work with
translation need to know with how much words they will work. It's also useful
when you have to do a presentation with limited words or slides and so on.

If this function doesn't exists on Impress i hope it'll be implemented soon.

Thank you for your attention.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open LibreOffice Impress.
2. Open a presentation.
3. Search for the total amount words you have on this presentation.

Actual Results:
I became disappointed.

Expected Results:
Tell me how many words i have in the document.

Reproducible: Always
