B Spline needs at least one more point than the grade of the polynom that is
used.

The second point is that there is nearly no value in using a grade 35 polynom
for fitting. Normal use cases are somewhere between 3 and 8.

Oh, sorry, you're right. I think I checked instead of unchecking in step 2.

But maybe what I explained leads us to the reason of the bug: when you save
with another name this property is not saved either.

You can try the following steps:

(1) Start LO and open an existing file, for example f1.odt.
(2) Check File Properties... Security Open file read-only. Then OK.
(3) File Save as and save it with another name, for example f2.odt
(4) Go to File Properties... Security Open file read-only, the checkbox
is unchecked.

I am a bit mixed. I guess that the default export is to ODF Spreadsheet (.ods).
Then I see both file formats in the Safe As dialog:

+ Office Open XML Spreadsheet (.xlsx)
+ Microsoft Excel 2007/2010 XML (.xlsx)

, so the user could choose what he wants.

What did I miss? Where is OOXML used by default?

Marcus just explained it on irc:

If you just create the filename as test.xlsx, do not select any filter, and
save the file we try to match the filter.

It used to default to Excel 2007 until LO-3.4. It defaults to OOXML in LO-3.5

 1. Top text element on 1st page defined as header is uneditable without user

 2. The same problem with text element in footer - deselecting In background

It'd be good to get rid of our window decoration and shove some of the app
functionality into there; I can't see us getting rid of our menu bar though.

If we enable gtk3 it builds separate gtk2 and gtk3 backends; I suspect the
functionality we need for this is gtk3 specific (?).

So - this is blocked by completing the gtk3 port - not something that's -that-
far out, but it needs a man-month or two of concerted work.

One possibility would be to show this information only in dev builds

I would prefer to have it in any build, otherwise in the Branch daily builds it
might be a problem to find out whether the used build is younger or older that
a particular release.

Another possibility would be to add this information to the string printed by
 libreoffice --version.

Sounds like a command line thingy? We WIN users hate that. If my assumption is
correct, it's not easy to get that info. I have lots of links to lots of server
installations of builds, and when I want to get that info, I would have to
check the path where the .exe are, cmd, go to path, run command, br. And
sometimes I have several builds running simultaneously for comparison,
currently I have to copy the Build IDs and search a hand made listing for that
ID; in the list I also have the pull time / date. Not a big problem, but
irksome. I prefer info in the dialog.

2012-04-23 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #4 from Michael Meeks michael.me...@novell.com 2012-04-23

I wouldn't recommend removing the window decoration without removing
the menu bar first (under GNOME 3, at least).

It is hard to see how we can collapse all our menus down into a single
top-level entry, and the reviews of Epiphany hiding a number of menu items
under some other button elsewhere were not so wonderful.

So - unless we can put all of our menus in the shell bar, it's unclear what
benefit this brings really; doing that is a reasonably achievable goal I think,
we have an abstraction for it - but the shell doesn't want that.

Anyhow - I'm most interested in people improving this area; cleaning up menus,
and/or presenting / simplifying their functionality / putting it somewhere else
is fine by me; but we'd need some reasonably coherent approach to that.

Thoughts on what works best here much appreciated etc.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 48835] Provide an application menu in GNOME 3

2012-04-23 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48835

--- Comment #5 from Allan Day allanp...@gmail.com 2012-04-23 04:42:56 PDT ---
(In reply to comment #4)
I wouldn't recommend removing the window decoration without removing
the menu bar first (under GNOME 3, at least).

It is hard to see how we can collapse all our menus down into a single
 top-level entry,

Right, that wouldn't work. All I'm suggesting is to move a small number of
application specific items (as opposed to window specific menu items) to the
app menu.

and the reviews of Epiphany hiding a number of menu items
under some other button elsewhere were not so wonderful.

Epiphany is in a transitional state. The plan is to dispense with the menu that
is in the toolbar - see https://live.gnome.org/Design/Apps/Web#Tentative_Design

So - unless we can put all of our menus in the shell bar, it's unclear what
 benefit this brings really;

There are two main benefits that I can see:

 * Consistency with other apps in a GNOME 3 environment - we are aiming to
ensure that all our apps present their app menu options here in the same way.
 * A more logical menu structure - splitting out options that affect all
windows into their own place.

doing that is a reasonably achievable goal I think,
we have an abstraction for it - but the shell doesn't want that.

Yeah, I don't think that modifying the top bar is a good idea. The purpose of
the top bar is to:

 * Be the presence of the system (as opposed to applications) eg, by providing
access to the overview and indicating system status. It delineates the system
from applications.
 * Provide a visual anchor that is always present - it's a consistently
available way into the system and remains in position despite other changes in
state and view (inside/outside the overview, screen rotation, etc)

More information can be found on the GNOME Shell design wiki page:

https://live.gnome.org/GnomeShell/Design/#Top_bar

Anyhow - I'm most interested in people improving this area; cleaning up menus,
and/or presenting / simplifying their functionality / putting it somewhere
 else
is fine by me; but we'd need some reasonably coherent approach to that.

Thoughts on what works best here much appreciated etc.

To be clear - I'm not trying to solve the design of LibreOffice's menus. My
chief motivation is better GNOME 3 integration.

No. Excel 2010 can open both exported files and excel 2007 can only open files
created with our export filter for Excel 2007/2010. The difference in the file
is only one entry in an url but this prevents excel 2007 from opening these
files.

IMHO we should default to the excel export and only export perfectly standard
conform files if the user requests them.

2012-04-23 Thread bugzilla-daemon

 Bug #: 49077
Summary: EDITING - CTRL-F or search option crashes Writer
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.2 Release
  Platform: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS/Version: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: pierre.yves.chatel...@gmail.com

In version 3.5.2.2 (version ID 281b639-6baa1d3-ef66a77-d866f25-f36d45f), under
Ubuntu 10.10, Gnome 2.32 :
CTRL+F or search in editing menu leads to crash Writer. Writer becomes grey
and either closes or hangs. I must exit by pressing X on the upper right
corner of the windows.
This problem doesn't appear in Calc or Impress.
During a few days, I could use the search box which was a floating box on the
screen (in Impress and Calc, it's a bar on the bottom of the screen).
I'm also using VirtualBox and I changed a key combination in it : the original
host key is Ctrl right and I moved it to Ctrl left. It seems to me that
was the begining of the problem. I moved back to initial key configuration, but
without any effect.

(again, see downstream:) The problem seems to be Ubuntu specific, after all.
Ubuntu's LO 3.5.2 needs the libreoffice-base package installed to correctly
open the file, with TDF's 3.5.2. (or earlier Ubuntu versions) this is not
necessary.

--- Comment #8 from dE de.tec...@gmail.com 2012-04-23 06:52:50 PDT ---
(In reply to comment #3)
As described by the title, and as explained in the discussion for issue 31481,
this is not a duplicate of 31481. In 31481 people want to view 2 documents, in
this issue people want to view 2 (or more) different parts of the same
document. Please revert the status of this issue.

Note that one can already view a document in 2 windows, and even scroll one of
the windows so one is looking at different parts of the document. However, as
soon as something is done in one window the other window is automatically
scrolled to display the same part of the document, which defeats the purpose.

No, that's not the case. I get independent scrolls here when a duplicate
document is opened via Windows New Window.(In reply to comment #7)

 dE,

Please go to the discussions/links listed in my previous comment for the
reasons of the need of having a split screen instead of two windows.

But I do get the point. I just suggested the workaround.

--- Comment #1 from utter koe...@gmail.com 2012-04-23 07:15:31 PDT ---
Encountered this problem as well under Ubuntu (12.04, 3.2.0-23, amd64) and
LibO 3.5.2.

This is a serious one, since a pdf produced in such a way will be readable by
evince for example (the usual application under linux), but not by adobe reader
(the usual one under windows).
Sending such documents to windows users can be seriously embarrassing (imagine
sending a cv to an employer, who complains not being able to open that file).

Would send people running away from libreoffice (and linux).

Please increase urgency !!!

Sooo ... this is going to be fun :-) We need to somehow unwind the
vcl/sfx2/framework mess to add some VCL APIs to nominate windows as top-levels
(I guess), and to add some logic to allow the global 'set_app_menu' magic to
get done inside the framework/ code (I suppose).

I suggest we decouple this from the set_menubar thing - which looks more
intense (if that's to set the whole menubar for the unity-style merged-menu
use-case) - since that's a tad more work.

Agreed, usability is king; is there any real/known advantage to using the 2010

Thanks. I think it's a 3.5 regression, but not sure. I created multiple
worksheets, none of which have a print area set by default.

Once I did set the print area then I got printing as I would expect, each
worksheet on a separate page, etc.

So - is it that you can't print at all without some kind of print area set? Is
there a way to set a default one for all workbooks/spreadsheets?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 49091] New: Alt-Left, Alt-Right keyboard shortcuts ineffective

2012-04-23 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49091

 Bug #: 49091
Summary: Alt-Left, Alt-Right keyboard shortcuts ineffective
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.4.6 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: ryan.jendo...@gmail.com

Just spent 20 minutes getting very confused as to why I couldn't assign the
Navigation controls Back and Forward to a keyboard shortcut. Had a nice
long bug report all typed up for it, but before posting tried different
shortcuts...

Sure enough, I could assign them to Alt-B and Alt-F, but not Alt-Left and
Alt-Right :p

A little more experimenting and it seems that no matter what one assigns to
these combinations, all that happens is the cursor moves left and right
completely normally: their shortcut function isn't activated at all.

I haven't upgraded to the 5.x series yet for a number of reasons (including Bug
47764 and Bug 46155) so I'd appreciate if someone else could check that this
bug still exists in the newest versions :-)

Steps to reproduce: In LibreOffice Writer:
1. Go to the Tools menu Customize...
2. If not selected, select the Keyboard tab
3. Assign some (any) function to the Alt-Left and Alt-Right key combinations
4. Return to your document
5. Test the Alt-Left and Alt-Right keyboard shortcuts
*Result: No effect: shortcut functions not activated*

I can also reproduce with LibO 3.5.2.2 on Linux. This makes me crazy,
especially for files which contain several draws (because you cannot use
Ctrl+A, else you would select all draws). This is a severe regression.

Is there a way to bring this bug to the attention of LibO developers for 3.5.3?

Confirmed. I see the same problem with LibO 3.5.2.2 on Linux. This an annoying
regression, though not too hard to work around this problem.

I tried it out by applying it to a slightly older version because the current

LibreOffice 3.5.2 crashes shortly after opening a .pps file. There is also
apparently no sound, although this may be because the program crashes too
quickly. I tried the same files under 3.5.0, 3.5.1 and 3.5.2 and all crash. I
have also tried the files in LibreOffice on Windows XP SP3 and Vista but all
crash. If the file extension is changed to .ppt the pictures will display but
no sound and if a Slideshow is started, LibreOffice crashes once more. The only
error message is An unexpected error etc. Removing the Use hardware
acceleration View setting does not cure the problem.

I have tested it yesterday at 4 PC´s. One of them failed again and lost all
