[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 47152] Lock files transferred when doing network copies

2012-06-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47152

--- Comment #4 from sasha.libreoff...@gmail.com 2012-05-31 23:40:14 PDT ---
Thanks for additional information
Currently LO asks if we want to edit document that has lock-file. And if we
press Edit anyway then LO behaves as if we have no lock file. Very handy if
LO was killed previously.

On network it is impossible to determine if document currently edited or not
edited using information from lock-file. LO should just try to open document
for writing. And if possible then it is up to user to see what to do.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 46999] FORMATTING: Should text copied into a comment preserve paragraph indenting?

 Status|UNCONFIRMED |NEW
   Severity|minor |enhancement

--- Comment #4 from sasha.libreoff...@gmail.com 2012-06-01 00:15:00 PDT ---
Thanks for document with additional explanations
For throwing formatting away exist function Edit-Paste special (shortcut
Ctrl-Shift-V), but in comment it not works correctly. If we select Unformatted
text, pasted text is still formatted.

Steps to reproduce:
0. Open attachment in Writer
1. Select some text in bottom half of page
2. Insert-Comment
3. Ctrl-Shift-V, variant Unformatted text
Expected: in comment pasted ordinary text
Actually: in comment pasted one character wide text

Reproduced in 3.3.4 and 3.5.4 on Fedora 64 bit (Windows not tested)
Changing version to 3.3.4 as most early reproduced

In case of Unformatted text formatting for comment is taken from that place
in text, where comment is placed. In this case it works bad, though formally
correct.

right everywhere, even in closed reports, makes searching for a specific bug
easier; especially our Libreoffice component contains far too much reports of
every kind, and therefore some cleanup seems helpful there.)

(If you ask why I care for fixed bugs/requests: Getting the 'Component' field
right everywhere, even in closed reports, makes searching for a specific bug
easier; especially our Libreoffice component contains far too much reports of
every kind, and therefore some cleanup seems helpful there.)

If preview incorrect - hard copy incorrect too.
And opposite variant: preview correct - hard copy corrupted exists?

I interesting in this question, because can not reproduce this bug on Windows
and Linux in 3.5.4 version. It may be because I not see bug, because in preview
it not shown, but on printer appears.

Another question: bug reproducible namely in first attachment document or for
testing used another document. And in 3.5.4 version bug still seen in
PagePreview?

--- Comment #1 from sasha.libreoff...@gmail.com 2012-06-01 01:07:57 PDT ---
Thanks for bugreport
Steps to reproduce:
0. Opens existing ods file in Calc, select something there and press Ctrl-C
1. Start Writer, press Ctrl-Shift-V, select DDE link
2. in Writer do Edit-Links. For example there is /home/s/file1.ods. Try
variant file1.ods and ./file1.ods
Expected: it will work
Actually: complains that link can not be established

reproduced in 3.3.4 and 3.5.4 on Fedora 64 bit
IMHO problem was in 3.2.1

Workaround: use ~/../.. (tilda, used for user folder, .. used for parent
folder), for example in my case /home/s/file1.ods may replaced to
~/../../home/s/file1.ods and it works correctly.

original text by Heinz Repp

Using a version newer than 0.85 of the sqliteodbc driver results in some of my
tables showing only 4 empty rows, and this happened already with OpenOffice 3
and later with Libreoffice 3.3 and 3.4. Those tables have a timedate field as
primary key, and Christian Werner had changed the formatting of timedates
between 0.85 and 0.86 (millionth of seconds I believe) and told me, that in
this case the the handling of Base was in error, and I should avoid using
timedates as primary key, but that was no option. Now new with Libreoffice
3.5.1: when I try to open one of those tables with a timedate primary key
Libreoffice reproducibly crashes.

Comments by Lionel Elie Mamane

The problem is that Base handles timestamps only up to a precision of
hundredths of seconds. So when it tries to (re)load data in that row, it gets
no result and shows an empty row. The crash is just a lack of robustness in
the face of unexpected result (namely no data when data is expected). Also a
bug, albeit (again) a different one.

The real solution is to change Base to handle timestamps up to the full ODBC
precision of nanoseconds (billionths of a second).

This will still have problems when inserting a row with a Timestamp primary
key, and the data inserted has a higher precision (in the primary key column)
than what sqlite (or more generally the database engine) supports: Base won't
find the newly inserted row again when trying to (re)load it, leading to the
same problems described here for this new row.

More generally, this will happen for any primary key that contains data that
can get rounded/truncated by the database engine, and such primary keys will
always be fragile I guess (unless we find a better way to refer to a row than
by its primary key...).

Steps to reproduce:
See bug #47520

Notes for solving:

The limitation to hundredths of a second comes from :: com :: sun :: star ::
util :: struct DateTime, which (as far as I understand) is part of the UNO
guaranteed stable ABI. As such, we'd have to introduce a new
::com::sun::star::util::struct DateTime2 or some such with higher precision. Or
maybe a more base-private ::com::sun::star::sdb(c)::DateTime? Nah, probably
too confusing.

Then all places using ::com::sun::star::util::DateTime have to be changed...
The ODBC scaling factor (now ODBC_FRACTION_UNITS_PER_HSECOND) should ideally be
1, etc. That is not only in database-related stuff, so this will have to be a
concerted effort of all/several components.

Funnily enough, LibreOffice already has a (non-UNO exported) datatype for
timestamp with nanosecond precision, namely oslDateTime (in
sal/inc/osl/time.h).

Thanks for new idea
Main reason, why user types font name manually and not selects from drop-down
list is this (IMHO): font not installed on currently used computer, but
installed on that, on which this file will printed or demonstrated after
editing. User perfectly knows that font not installed. Message windows will
only annoying, and can not help.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 50576] New: UI: Increase mouse wheel zoom speed exponentially

2012-06-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50576

 Bug #: 50576
Summary: UI: Increase mouse wheel zoom speed exponentially
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.4 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Drawing
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: martinsti...@gmail.com

When the zoom level is rather big (e.g. 400%), a further zooming-in with the
mouse wheel is very slow. This is because the zoom level increases only
linearly.

In order to get the user experience of a smooth zoom speed, the zoom level must
increase exponentially. This can be seen in Inkscape, for example.

It was simple document in Writer. Now I use the newest version of LibreOffice
Writer. Try it with builtin and print to file under Xubuntu 11.10.

I saw that these shapes are caused by reader like you said it before. If I use
Adobe Reader under Linux it was ok, but if I use Evince it looks slightly
strange.

May be source of problem is in strange names of objects?

Hi Stephen,

I am not concerned about betas. But I think broken accessibility
should normally prevent a final release from taking place.

We rely very substantially on user testing. If the brokenness is not detected
until after the release, it is hard to retrospectively un-release it. People
test what they care about - if no-one is testing a11y support on Windows before
releases and you care about this - then it'd be great to have you step in to
volunteer to do that.

The closer the breakage is detected to the point where it broke, the quicker
and easier it is for us to fix. As of now - it's not easy to isolate where the
problem is, and we have no stack trace - as/when we have that it shouldn't be
too hard to fix. It is also now marked a 'Most Annoying' bug (one of ~70 or so)
so has the highest visibility possible.

HTH.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 46378] Poor Resampling Image quality

2012-06-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46378

--- Comment #12 from Tomaz Vajngerl qui...@gmail.com 2012-06-01 03:16:58 PDT
---
Hi,

I have already implemented Lanczos resampling but I need to test that the
result is comparable to IrfanView. I will create a patch during weekend - with
the resampling enabled only for PDF Export.

Lanczos resampling uses separable convolution which has many other uses like
alternative methods of resampling like BiCubic, Mitchell, ... but differ only
on the kernel function. In the second step I will also implement those
resampling methods.

With separable convolution it is also possible to implement filters like
Gaussian blur (smooth filter) and unsharpen masking,... Because the processing
is separable (horizontal and vertical 1D convolution), it is also faster than
currently implemented Gaussian Blur which uses 2D convolution. So in the third
step I will replace Gaussian Blur with separable Gaussian Blur and implement
some additional filters.

Is it better to have for step 2 and 3 a new bugzilla entry or I should do
everything under this bugzilla or what is your suggestion?

I was searching the source code and did not find where resampling is done in
Export function. Looks like I will have to debug like you suggested to find the
correct place.

Best Regards, Tomaž

When LibreOffice 3.5.4 was released the bug disappeared. Presumably it was a
known fault fixed in that release.

I can only chime in with a me too, and add that even creating a brand new
profile does not make spellcheck work. I tried just removing the extensions
folder first. We're running Swedish UI, if that makes any difference. None of
the spellchecks work, not even the English one.

I dont know if it's somehow related, but the first time LO is run without a
profile, it'll fire upp the soffice.exe and soffice.bin processes, create the
profile, and then die. Subsequent runs sometimes start up as expected, other
times it takes a really long time to start.

Hi Ant:

I see v3.5.4 was released. I assume it has no fixes for startups?

Without a stack-trace with debugsymbols and/or a repeatable problem we are
totally stymied here.

Fridrich ... is it truly the case that there is no Windows build that actually
works with debug symbols ? I couldn't make Jesus' builds work, and the
tinderbox builds appear not to have the symbols packaged / distributed with
them.

IMHO, we still should not ask the keyboard, but just use the UI language for
the shortcuts. Someone using a US layout with a german UI should not be
troubled to map Ctrl to Strg (as with doing such things, he is basically asking

I just checked, and it's the same on Windows 7 as well. If I go into the

anything but the Lightproof options.

For a regular user without redirected appdata, this works as expected.

Do you reproduce this with a brand new LO profile ? (see

Is lo-menubar package installed ? if yes, could you try to uninstall it and
 test again ?

You can also get an useful backtrace with symbols (see

I've just removed lo-menubar package and that's works... I just see that here :

Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.4 release
  Platform: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS/Version: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED

Created attachment 62372
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=62372
pic showing the problem both in Writer and Calc

1) OS and LO Version
Linux Mint 13 Maya
Cinnamon 64bit
LibreOffice 3.5.x

2) What happened
When changing font colours, they don't display at all in Writer and only
as-you-type in Calc. The moment I move away from the cell I am editing, the
font becomes black again

3) Expected behaviour
Font colour to be applied and seen at all times.

4) Frequency of the problem
Always

5) What I have tried
  a) Uninstalled LO and all configuration files and reinstalled it from the
main repositories.
  b) Uninstalled LO and all configuration files, added the ppa:libreoffice/ppa,
updated, upgraded, dist-upgraded and installed LO
  c) Uninstalled LO and all configuration files, manually downloaded and
installed the packages for LO 3.5.4 from the LO website

6) Reproducibility in other platforms
I am running dual-boot with W7 and have no issues there with LO 3.5.x. Also
have 2 other computers, running Lisa and LO 3.4 and there is no issue there
either.

The machine where the problem is occurring is a Toshiba Satellite C650D,
hardware list available if deemed relevant
