[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 52170] An extremely slow search/browse table in embedded HSQLDB

2012-12-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52170

--- Comment #7 from Alex Thurgood ipla...@yahoo.co.uk ---
(In reply to comment #6)
Need new tests with libreoffice 4.0.beta2 or later.

Or with a libreoffice-4-0 or master (4.1.alpha) daily build from *after*
 today.

It should be faster, but is it still significantly slower than before?

Hi Lionel,

I opened the Timbabase.odb file on a 32bit Linux master build :

System:Host: Aspire-X1430
Kernel: 3.2.0-34-generic i686 (32 bit) Desktop: KDE 4.8.5 Distro: Linux Mint 13
Maya
Machine: Mobo: Acer model: Aspire X1430
Bios: AMI version: P01-C1 date: 11/16/2011
CPU: Dual core AMD E-350 APU with Radeon HD Graphics (-MCP-)
cache: 1024 KB flags: (lm nx sse sse2 sse3 sse4a ssse3 svm)
Clock Speeds: 1: 800.00 MHz 2: 800.00 MHz
Graphics: Card: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Wrestler [Radeon HD 6310]
   X.Org: 1.11.3 drivers: ati,fglrx (unloaded: fbdev,vesa,radeon)
Resolution: 1440x900@59.9hz

Double-clicked to load the table, 4-5 seconds to load the table and display.
Clicked on the Go to last record arrow.
After more than 5 minutes of waiting, I gave up and killed the whole process.
So no significant gain for me.

Using alphabetical index, when you add a voice to index starting from selected
text, sometimes Writer will use the whole text to mark index reference (say:
background grayed text) sometimes it will mark a little gray background on the
half of the first letter of the referencing text.
I tried to refine when it happens, but with no luck.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 57510] pls set Icons in menus to always be on by default, regardless of the OS default

2012-12-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57510

--- Comment #16 from Fitoschido fitosch...@gmail.com ---
(In reply to comment #14)
IMO consistency with the rest of the desktop is really important. If icons
in menus are helpful to match menu entries with toolbars then that's an
argument that would apply to all apps surely ? And so better argued at e.g.
the distro or gnome level to globally turn them on by default for all gtk
 apps.

This.

Does anyone remember whan GNOME had icons in every menu and button? It looked
messy, bloated, inconsistent, unpolished. Please don't do this to LibreOffice!
It needs to honor OS settings—if I set gnome so it doesn't use icons in every
widget, LibreOffice must respect that.

note that an initial msSeed + is missing from the converted, unless msSeed is

Key
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: r.esc...@osram.de

Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 3.6.4.3 rc

Created attachment 71122

Screenshot

Function Insert - Index  Tables - Entry - Alphabetical Index;

open the combo box (value help) for 1st key in a document with already many
indexed entries with 1st not unique keys: you will receive a list with single
1st key entries of all index entries(!), not aggregated so that there is only
one entry for every used 1st key.
So you are forced to scroll very much to find the 1st key you are looking for.

Same for 2nd key.

In past versions (3.0? 3.3? I forgot it) it worked as desired. For one(?) year
I hoped that the bug got fixed, but nothing, so now I report it.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Insert some different words into the alphabetical index using two 1st keys
as dummy (for example 5 times key1 and 5 times key2 as 1st key)

Current behavior:
When you open the combo box 1st key for a 11th index entry you get 5
identical items key1 and 5 identical items key2 to choose from

Expected behavior:
You get in the combo box 1st key only two items: key1 and key2 to choose
from (unique or distinct key display)

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57959

--- Comment #8 from Lionel Elie Mamane lio...@mamane.lu ---
SIGSEGV in java code are not necessarily a problem (when run under GDB).

What happens is that the process/thread gets SIGSEGV, the JVM catches that and
raises exception NullPointerException. The Java code can then cleanly catch the
exception, handle the error condition and continue with no problem.

You have to wait until it actually crashes :)

When running LibreOffice under GDB with some Java thread, I do:

  handle SIGSEGV pass noprint nostop

to stop gdb from giving me many false positives (false alarm).

It it hits a problematic (e.g. in C++ code) SIGSEGV / uncaught Java
NullPointerException, it will abort and gdb should still cache that. Else, the
JVM creates a file with a backtrace that can give hints.

It is useful when hunting for such problems to run libreoffice with
--norestore, so that the abort happens sooner.

Mentioned above attachment contains field Document/Statistics/Pages
It shows value 4 because document contains 4 pages. But in this case this makes
no sense because document contains paragraph with option With page style, page
number.
Possible solutions, IMHO:
- Add ability to adjust field Page count by constant that adds to this value
- Add another field that takes in account this situation automatically

That's just the error message that would be shown if the operation would fail;
it has not failed yet.

See datasourceconnector.cxx line 193:

SQLException aError;
aError.Message = m_sContextInformation;
aError.NextException = aInfo.get();

aInfo = aError;

and then:

showError( aInfo, m_pErrorMessageParent, m_xContext );

Ok, so the way I did this :

1) Open the Timbabase.odb example from

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=63257

2) Click on the Report button and choose the Report Designer Wizard to create a
new report.

3) Select all fields.

4) Group by date

5) No additional sort criteria

6) Click on Next or Finish : crash

So, I end up in some kind of libpthread wait condition from which I don't seem
to be able to recover.

Pressing Ctrl-Q returns me to gdb, where i can get a trace (same as the one I
already posted), and then back into a pthread conditional wait loop.

Can partly reproduce on self-built 4.1pre (master) on Open-SUSE 12.2

* Can't reproduce this bug when just scrolling through
* Can reproduce when clicking on the page break marker and then trying to

Also, I agree that this is an annoying imperfection, albeit not a huge problem.

... but then things get muddy.

one would assume that 5de61f7a4ddb502730454e4bf3232f7f4b4175e1
fixes the crash... but it doesn't because that's just the
anchor transition that happens on master, on libreoffice-3-6
we have a _different_ anchor transition!

but it can't hurt to backport that anyway.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 57780] CRASH when FILEOPEN particular .doc

2012-12-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57780

both attachment 1 and 2 now appear working fine with LOdev: Version
4.0.0.0.alpha1+ (Build ID: b75e9576bfaf9f95532f2a9d6917cffbf37a57e)

I've attached a 3rd document that hangs LOdev without crashing.

I have no ideas about the commonality for these files. but they appears to be
the only 3 files from the official Taiwanese Congress logs that are not
working, out of a few thousand files.

My bosses forced me to work with MS Office for interoperability reasons, and it
turns out that Word 2010 does _not_ apply any formatting to the whole word,
when any kind of formatting was chosen! Only characters, that were inserted
after the format has been applied, will be affected.
I therefore reopened this bug and state again, that this is not a feature
request.

PNG file from an ODT document

Same problem as in Comment 5, but the file is a PNG. I think, it is probably
the same bug.

With the attached extracted PNG:
a) in draw, insert picture from file works fine
b) in writer, insert picture from file reproduces the problem

11 out of 30 pictures are not visible, but they are embedded in the file

In this file, 11 pictures out of 30 are not displayed (1 picture on page 17:
part of upper left corner is displayed). I have *many* files with this problem
(i.e. missing pictures). If I print the file, everything is OK. If saved as
PDF, everything is OK. Page preview is *not* OK, the pictures are invisible.
When I right-click the invisible picture (Picture.../[Picture]), the picture is
displayed in the dialog.

Tested with Version 4.0.0.0.alpha1+ (Build ID:
ac4d26e3fc2728ee80f33a485540d50b48927dd), 2012.12.03 under Windows XP and Vista
64.

It works with LibO 3.6.3.

I think, this is a blocker under Windows.

here i can reproduce a crash in LO master, libreoffice-3-6, 3.5.7, 3.4.6,
as well as OOo 3.3, 3.2.1, 3.0.1, so it does not look like a regression
to me.
(OOo 3.0.1 crashes only on one of the 2 documents, but maybe that
is just luck)

the first and second documents seem to crash in very similar ways.

Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: diane.van-dorssel...@gadz.org

Problem description:
When the text language is French (France), with the option Add non breaking
space before specific punctuation marks in French text enabled, spaces before
exclamation and question marks located before a bracket ((, ), [, ], { or })
are automatically deleted.

Steps to reproduce:
1. enable option Add non breaking space before specific punctuation marks in
French text in a text set to French (France)
2. type blah !), blah!) or any combination of an exclamation/question mark
and a bracket of any type ((, ), [, ], { or }) located directly after it.

Current behavior:
The text is modified as following:
blah !) = blah!)
blah!) = blah!)
blah !] = blah!]
and so on...

Expected behavior:
The text should be modified as following:
blah !) = blah !)
blah!) = blah !)

Hi joel, I think this one is different than the other because this one have a
table who works very slowly, because if I create other document with less data
it works fine but this one when you move the bar (the one for content) the
content are rendered very slow, more than WRITER, possibly are the same problem
and could be the floss radeon driver, but happened on a Debian Machine at
64bits both different version of LO one 3.6 and the one I'm now 4.0 so I guess
that could be the driver, going to try with private radeon driver.

Sorry for late reply.

REPRODUCIBLE after using LOdev dialogs, with 4.0 alpha1, but NOT reproducible
with 4.0 beta1. So WORKSFORME.

@gerdl, Thanks for reporting this bug, though it seems to be temporary issue.
Anyway, please use status WORKSFORME if there is no known fix associated.

  So INVALID

Luckily reopened. I agree with other reporters here that this
level of arrogance is a bit disturbing.

Ho hum - the complaints:useful-work ratio is a bit disturbing here.

It seems the problem is that modern capable PDF renderers can render the
generated PDF acceptably; older and/or more broken ones have problems - AFAICs.

This may well not be a bug in LibreOffice - the question is: can we do much
about it - can we detect and generate PDF differently ? What is the difference
in the PDF.

Anyone wanting to complain would do better to dig through the PDF spec. and
find a good way to pretty-print that PDF, and then work out which commands are
different in it.

I had a go using a recent xpdf-poplar; interestingly the raw X backend of this
fails to render the PDF, but the cairo / SVG output renders it fine: as does
the evince viewer.

Using the pdf2svg utility - on before + after and diffing them, it seems like
we have:

which (I hope) maps reasonably well to the actual PDF generated - certainly the
later PDF is larger which presumably reflects this alpha-mask / image.

So - anyhow - this is a problem that an intelligent user can solve with only a
few hours of research I expect: and here is the question:

What is the difference in the PDF - and what are the human-readable PDF
elements that changed between the versions ?

I'm struggling to reproduce this on Linux with the 4.0.0 builds - I can

reasonable. I can delete characters one by one from the start.

I tried doing random edits across the place - and it generall seems reasonably
responsive - I've certainly not managed to provoke any length of hang more than
a second or so.

Of course, if I copy/paste the entire 1/2 million word document a few times I
get a biiig hang; but I'm expecting that I suppose ;-) what operations are

Interestingly we can save the document as .docx and re-load it without loosing

So potentially - when found, it should be reasonably fix-able.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 57983] New: Cannot search for tab, and yen key also disabled

2012-12-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57983

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 57983
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Cannot search for tab, and yen key also disabled
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Mac OS X (All)
  Reporter: ma...@telebody.net
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 3.5.2 release
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

Search and replace for tab fails in two different ways.

1. Typing the tab key in the source text area of the search and replace dialog
(or in the Find toolbar) does not work, though it should.

2. Typing the yen key (used as backslash in Japanese computers) and t to
compose the tab regex does not work, though it should.

Background:

I discovered this by pasting text from an excel chart which inserted tons of
tabs. I was surprised I could not easily delete all tabs.

Just typing a tab does not work!

The background of #2 above is as follows.

It has always been the case that on Japanese keyboards, the backslash symbol is
replaced with a Yen mark symbol (Y with two lines through it). They are the
same ASCII code and when you type a regex in perl for example, you are typing
the yen key.

The characters in question (this may not render correctly on your screen) are
¥ (yen) and \ (backslash).

LibreOffice breaks this so that it is not possible to search for a tab or other
regex using the backslash. It is also inexplicably impossible to search for a
tab by typing a tab.

(I finally was able to search for a regex by copying the backslash from the
help window.)

There is at least on the mac a little-known way (option + yen key) to create a
backslash character, but nobody knows/understands backslash. On a MacBook Pro,
the delete key is at the upper right below the eject key. To the left of the
delete key is the Yen key. Shift-Yen gives a pipe symbol. Option-Yen gives a
backslash (which I didn't know until today after owning it and programming for
over three years).

Therefore both the yen key + t and backslash + t should work as a regex, since
different keyboards/computers may have a backslash key.

Recommendation:
A. Allow user to type a tab with the tab key and search for it.
B. Interpret the half-width yen mark (I believe it is ascii 92) plus a regex
symbol (n,t,s,r…) as a backslash.

Additional enhancement recommendation:
C. This kind of problem, i.e. searching for glyphs in other languages, or deep
in the unicode tables, might be common problem. It would be useful for LO to
include a Keyboard Substitutions page in the LO global preferences area
(perhaps linked from the Search and Replace dialog as well) that would allow
the user to designate substitute keys or macro strings such as [:space:] or
_unicodesnowman_ to search for things that would be really difficult for most
users to figure out how to input.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 57985] New: SQL: left() function causes VARCHAR_IGNORECASE columns to be compared case-sensitive

2012-12-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57985

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 57985
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: SQL: left() function causes VARCHAR_IGNORECASE columns
to be compared case-sensitive
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: davidjudysm...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 3.6.3.2 release
 Component: Database
   Product: LibreOffice

Created attachment 71135
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=71135action=edit
Database file containing the tables described.

I have found a situation where values in specified columns are compared in a
case-sensitive way, even though the columns are both declared as
VARCHAR_IGNORECASE.

The attached database (Case Sensitive Function.odb) contains the example.
There are two tables:
Text1 has a column Col1 with text values abcde, fghij, klmno, and pqrst;
Text2 has a column Col2 with text values abcde, Fghij, klmnO, and pqRst.
(Note that the first values match, while the other values differ in one capital
letter.)

Both Col1 and Col2 are declared as VARCHAR_IGNORECASE. Text1 has an additional
column called Target.

The SQL statement
update Text1 T1 set Target=(select Col2 from Text2 T2 where
T1.Col1=T2.Col2)
works as expected: all of the rows from Col2 in Text2 are copied to Target,
because the strings match in a case-insensitive comparison.

But the SQL statement
update Text1 T1 set Target=(select Col2 from Text2 T2 where
left(T2.Col2,5)=T1.Col1)
does not work correctly. Only the first row from Col2 is copied to Target,
showing that something - presumably the left() function - caused a
case-sensitive comparison to be done. Interestingly, the statement
update Text1 T1 set Target=(select Col2 from Text2 T2 where
T1.Col1=left(T2.Col2,5))
works as expected, copying all rows, so there is something significant about
the order of the comparison.

Perhaps this behavior of the left() function (and the right() function has the
same quirk) is by design. My issue is that I need a way to force comparisons
to be case-insensitive, and apparently specifying the column type isn't
sufficient.

To show the behavior:
1. Open the Case Sensitive Function.odb database.
2. Edit the two tables Text1 and Text2 to verify the column declarations.
3. Open each of the tables to verify the contents. Make sure that the Target
column is empty.
4. From the Tools menu, choose SQL. Copy one of the SQL statements above into
the Command field, then click Execute. When the statement executes correctly,
click Close.
5. Open the Text1 table and inspect the Target column. If all four rows are
filled, then the comparison was case-insensitive; if only the first row is
filled, the comparison was case-sensitive.
6. Be sure to delete all values from Target before closing the table, in
preparation for the next test.

(Note: my installation of LibreOffice uses the default database, presumably
HSQL. I don't know how to verify that that's the case.)

Hello!
Since the LO 3.6 works with the date 07/12/2012 is no longer in LO Calc.
But if I under the Tools = Options = Language Settings = date
pattern recognition ;D/M/Y with SPECIFIED then it works again. So I would
like this is included by default.

Best regards R.Lehmeier

Hallo!
Seit der LO 3.6 funktioniert die Datumsangabe mit 07/12/2012 nicht mehr im LO

Wenn ich aber unter unter Extras = Optionen =Spracheinstellungen =

möchte ich das dieses standardmäßig eingefügt wird.

After a crash (or a forcequit) with files open, restarting LibreOffice brings
up first the document recovery window, then the Start Center opens in front of
it, hiding the fact that LibreOffice has noticed a need to recover files.
It may be best to integrate document recovery into the Start Center.

It is a simple table to show you the problem I mentioned before

Hallo,

It is the first time I am using LO (Writer) and I really start loving this
programme. Unfortunately I have a critical problem.

When I make a Table with Writer everything looks really nice and easy. But
there is a real critical bug: If I cancel or add a new LINE the cells loose
their formate. The table corrupts and does not any more sum the amounts
correctly. In fact the total sum does not change anymore.

Once again: the table corrupts when i add or cancel one or several lines.

I thank you very much in advance for your kind help and soonest possible
answer.

Best Regards
Franz

@Lehmeier
Please do not translate to German language - we would have asked if that would
be useful. You only spam Bugzilla with completely useless text. I already told
you.

We need to know for what Locale setting(s) (in the same dialog like the Date
recognition pattern) you want to see this by default. I believe it's easy to
understand that users in a country with M/D/Y
(http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datumsformat) would not be very happy with
D/M/Y by default.

--- Comment #2 from Terrence Enger lo_b...@iseries-guru.com ---
Thank you, Joel, for reminding me of this bug report in particular and
for the tremendous effort you have been making to triage bug reports.

I conclude that the slowness of my LibreOffice can plausibly be
attributed to configuration parameter --enable-dbgutil and the
resulting use of debug version of STL iterators. I am setting
bug status to NOTABUG.

Some details, for those who might care ...

(*) With master commit af3030e (2012-12-05), the program took 42
minutes to get as far as the dialog box Enable macros, and
closing the document and the program took 1 hour and 17 minutes.

(*) Looking at callgrind data from the first five hours or so of
opening the file, I see ...

  - inclusive numbers for debug iterators add up to way more
than the total cost. I do not know how to extract the
inclusive cost of a set of functions (i.e., without double
counting the cost of references within the set).

  - Looking just at the exclusive cost of the couple of hundred
most expensive functions, I see debug STL functions account for
65% of all the cost to that point. The classification of
functions is my rough-and-ready guess based on the part of
output from callgrind_annotate which fits within the width of
my screen.
