Yes, linked graphic files. Meanwhile I found the bug here:

I used LO/ ooffice as html editor for some years now but is unusable in the
moment for this purpose. What a pity!

You can configure the behavior in Tools Options Draw General Text

to the left edge of the application window. No new feature needed.

for the record I retested against LibO 4.3.0.0.beta2
Build ID: a06aa316117a6ff0f05c697c82831c227812d810

in 4.3beta2 the performance is almost the same as in LibO 4.2.4.2 hence the
regression is limited to the 4.4.x branch.

regarding the trace I'm on Windows so I have to grab a 4.4.x master build with
symbols. I took a look at this link:
http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/Win-x86@39/symbols/

but it looks confusing to me what should I download.

Actually that's not much helpful here. The feature is about deleting
recent documents from the list - but that is some pretty much
different thing. I want to get rid of the thumbnails, but I still
want to keep my recent list. Thumbnails and recent list are two
independent things, that should not bbe mixed here.

Modified version of Julien's screenshot

Okay, if an embedded box is hard to do for now, I think you should just resolve
obvious truncation problems.
Above is a mockup that is derived from one of your screenshots. As you can see,
the only difference is, that for aesthetic reasons, the second category now
features only a single column of option. Would be great if you could arrange
that, otherwise I would be fine with your patch.

I will open a new bug for a longer-term redesign of these option pages.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 63551] FORMATTING: Format cell dialogue in Calc wait very long (8 second) to pop up

2014-06-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63551

--- Comment #8 from Samson Yeung wingtong...@gmail.com ---
Thank you for you guy's information and effort to remove this bug. I
have test it on my system - install 4.2.4 and using fc-cache. The
situation has been improved a lot but the major problem doesn't disappeared.

What 's been improved
Formerly, not only the pop up of the formatting dialogue is slow (13s),
the operation inside the dialogue is also sluggish, e.g. sluggishly
scrolling downward to find an appropriate date format. This situation go
away now.

What's not been improved
On the contrary of what you claimed, I still have to wait for around 10s
for the dialogue to pop up.
In the very beginning, I believed one of the factors caused the
sluggishness Since I use a lot of traditional Chinese fonts (100), I
believed they are related. Chinese fonts are different from English one
by its size, ranging from 5 to 10M per typeface while english ones are
measured in K. After I unload all the chinese fonts except those default
fonts installed by ubuntu , the pop-up time of the dialogue box reduced
to 3s.
Moreover, I don't have this problem for libreoffice in Windows 7 version
from the very beginning. Therefore I guessed that the way libreoffice
linux read in the fonts when pop up the formatting dialogue is the major
cause. Large file size for chinese typeface means a lot of loading
works need to be done. But I have no knowledge for the mechanism
therefore I get no further comment.
In the mean time, I work around the problem with a new excellent feature
of libreoffice, the Side Panel. But I am still longing for the removal
of this bug so that libreoffice should become more perfect.
Finally, I think there are not sufficient asian or chinese open source
programmers therefore any problem concerning these locales is difficult
to be solved - I have also reported a problem unsolved until today that
libredraw messed up pdf containing chinese or 2 byte characters when
read in. This will not happen in files contained only english or pictures.
Finally I also apologize for I cannot attend the forum discussion til
the end for I am engaged in other bussiness.

best regards

Samson

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 79764] New: Redesign Lightproof options for easier localizability, better ease of use

2014-06-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=79764

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 79764
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Redesign Lightproof options for easier localizability,
better ease of use
  Severity: enhancement
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: heinzless...@gmail.com
  Hardware: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.3.0.0.beta2
 Component: UI
   Product: LibreOffice

Lightproof's components have many options. Since grammar/style checking is
generally both error-prone and dependant on writing style, they will be
necessary for the foreseeable future.

Currently, there are two major problems with the options layout:
+ they are displayed on a different options page for each language
+ the options are displayed on flat pages, despite there being so many of
them

This leads to
+ more and more options pages for Lightproof (currently it only checks
Hungarian, English Russian, but the selection of languages will likely
  expand in the future)
+ an increasing chance of captions of options being cut off in various locales
(e.g. French, German, Russian), as the layout of the options becomes more
complicated. See bug 78526 for an example.

To reproduce:
  open LibreOffice,
go to Tools Options, Language Settings Hungarian Sentence Checking
(NOTE: some Linux distributions currently do not ship Lightproof. Use a
Windows or OS X build if you can't find the options.)

Improvement proposal (mockup)

Attached is a mockup with the goal of solving the problems mentioned in the
description.

+ All Languages are displayed on the same page.
+ The options page is located under Language Settings Style and Grammar

+ Different languages are selectable from a drop-down list box.
+ By default, the selected entry of the list box should be the [default
language for documents] (as defined on the Languages page), unless there
is no Lightproof module for this language. In this case, the first
language in the list should be displayed.
+ Choosing another language here changes the contents of the options
list box
+ The options page need not be limited to Lightproof modules. It could be
possible for it to host the options of other Grammar checkers such as
CoGrOO or LanguageTool in the future. If that ever happens, the Language
drop-down entries could read e.g. Russian (using Lightproof).

+ The options list box lists all options of the selected language
+ It is sorted by category.
+ The categories can be folded/unfolded. By default, they are unfolded,
so the user can instantly access all options.
+ There is just one column of options throughout, so it can be maximally
localized.
+ If necessary, the options list box is scrollable.

Does that make sense?

Confirmed in Linux Mint in 4.2.4, 4.2.6 and 4.3 beta. It does work correctly

Yes the issue is in 4.3b2 as well, looking the same as the 4.4 screenshot sent.
I put 4.3 beta 2 as i felt it needs to be fix in the upcoming release.

you should also check in /share/autocorr to make sure you have the necessary

I have the acor_ca-IS.dat file, but when I use Writer the spellchecker window

Sorry Aniol,

I was mistaken about the /share/autocorr, as that is for automatic corrections
per language. /share/extensions is the correct location of the dictionary
files. If you right-click in your document and click Character..., in the font
tab you will find a language drop down menu, in that list, you will see check
marks next to each language which has dictionaries installed.

prototype speedup patch

So - this is an interesting problem; there are several horribly intermittent
performance problems here. It seems that the SfxItemPool management is
extremely performance fragile. In particular for non-poolable items - if we
happen to add and remove them in the right order (which sadly we do per element
in response to SAX callbacks [!] ) - actually just for one type 'SwFmtCharFmt'
- I assume because it's an SwClient sub-class then we can either be 'lucky' or
not ;-)

The basic problem is that if when we add our temporary element there is a hole
at the front of the SfxPoolItemArra_Impl vector, then we will add it there,
append the new element to the end of the array, and then remove the first
element again [ thus forcing a re-scan of the whole array to find the next hole
- which is the expensive bit ].

The attached patch uses an unordered_set for the SfxItemPool - that should have
a linear cost for add/removes of non-poolable items - and indeed it
significantly helps with performance.

With this patch I get a 61 second load instead of a 290 second load; which is a
win. Of course, inevitably it breaks a unit test as well so not to master.

Perhaps there is a simpler / less invasive way.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 79766] New: Inconsistent wording in Asian Layout Kerning options.

2014-06-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=79766

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 79766
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Inconsistent wording in Asian Layout Kerning options.
  Severity: trivial
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: heinzless...@gmail.com
  Hardware: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.0.4 release
 Component: UI
   Product: LibreOffice

To reproduce in LibreOffice 4.2,
1. Open LibreOffice
2. Go to Tools Options,
3. Open the page Language Settings/Languages.
4. If under Default Languages for Documents, the option Asian is disabled,
enable it. If it is already enabled, continue with step 7.
5. Close the options by clicking OK.
6. Go to Tools Options again.
7. Open the page Language Settings/Asian Layout.
8. Look for the two options under Kerning:
+ the first one uses the phrase Western characters
+ the second one uses Western text
This is inconsistent.

The help entry reads:
  Kerning
Defines the default settings for kerning between individual characters.

Western characters only
Specifies that kerning is only applied to western text.
Western text and Asian punctuation
Specifies that kerning is applied to both western text and Asian
  punctuation.

I.e. there does not seem to be a difference in meaning = both options should
use the words Western text.

Sorry I don't have the time for this currently.
But this might be an easy hack.
Here's the code that gets executed when clicking the Navigate by button:
http://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/sw/source/uibase/uiview/view2.cxx#1060

This commit removed the old buttons from the scrollbar:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=3e8fe4d8e19be2ccd8f5bb898530e2f615a90321
And this commit added the buttons to the find bar:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=0f86895fcd1001324974d644a728152b97b22ab0

So to show only the small element selector window when clicking the Navigate
by button, you need to reintroduce the code that was removed in the first
commit (SwNaviImageButton::Click is the start point).

Oh, sorry. You are right, I pressed Insert accidentally. Bug may be closed
or transformed to a wishlist: it is impossible to disable it graphically,
 new users may be confused.

You can disable it by double-clicking 'overwrite' in the status bar, or
according to your screenshot, double-clicking '3aMeHa'.

 Hi,

Thanks for this nice news. Is it possible to test the fix in a PPA for
Ubuntu 12.04? I enabled PPA repo for prereleases of LO, so I guess it should
 come in a few weeks?

 Thanks,

 Regards,

Unfortunately the new version will only appear in the PPA when it is released.
4.25 should be releasing between Jun 16 and Jun 22, which is about 2 weeks from
now.

Please could you upgrade your version to the current stable version (4.2.4) and
try again.
Please which Linux distribution do you use?
What happens if you use LibreOffice filepicker instead of the KDE one (menu

Set status to NEEDINFO, please set it back to UNCONFIRMED when you will have

Can you do a screencast of whats happening with either camstudio or

hopefully give you some suggestions. In the screencast, start from your

Yes i have the 64-bit of Java.

With a 32 bits Java version, from a long time it has been fine for me.

Yes using a 32-bit version doesn't show the same error. But whether its a
32-bit or 64-bit version of java, why should it show such a message when its
not a defective version. And when it does show such a message, we should be
able to point users to where they can get a non-defective version or instruct
them to use the 32-bit version.

And to use Java in LibreOffice I think is needed to select what Java use in
Menu/Tools/LibreOffice/Advanced even if it's only one installed.

That had already been set. :)

Hi m.a.riosv,

Though you state that it will only work on a 32-bit java, Tools Options lists
and allows me to select a 64-bit version of java. So is libreoffice not using
the 64-bit version even though its been selected.

Pulled from my bug 79730 comment 3:

Yes since 4.2, images added to files are saved as base64 encoded images
embedded into html files, unless you check the 'insert as link' checkbox in the
file insert dialog, but for some reason this isnt happening.

Confirmed in Linux Mint in 4.2.4, 4.2.6 and 4.3 beta. It does work correctly
with referenced images in .odt files but not .html files.

Hi,

I'm observing the same problem. If I create a table and adjust its borders (in
my case, I change some of the lines to 2pt and the dashed style), Writer
complies just fine. If I save my document, close it, and then re-open it, my
borders have been reverted to the defaults.

The same problem is also observable when attempting to save these new borders
for AutoFormat use. I can save the AutoFormat of my brand new border-adjusted
table just fine, but the preview does not display my custom borders, and
applying the (just created from the same table!) AutoFormat to my table does
indeed cause the borders to be reset to defaults.

I've re-opened this bug - was that the right course of action? Also I'd be
happy to hear from you if you need anything from me.

Sometimes, the cell or the line which is selected is not correctly
recalculated, instead it displays N/A or Err:522

Steps to reproduce:

Method 1:
1. Open the file
2. Select another sheet of the file

Method 2:
1. Type Ctrl-Shift-F9 for unconditional recalculate

Method 3:
1. Select a cell (X) in the sheet
2. Go to another sheet of the same file
3. Modify a cell, which has an effect onto X
4. Select back the sheet that contains cell X

Current behavior:

The cell which is selected contains Err :522.
Other cells in the same sheet my contain 0 or N/A instead of their current
value.

The workaround is to select a cell with no formula and type Ctrl-Shift-F9.

Often, the calculation time is also very long when one cell is modified, which
may indicate that all cells have been recalculated, not just the cells that
depend directly or indirectly on the modified cell.

See screenshoots:
#1: a cell with a formula was selected when Ctrl-Alt-F9 was typed in.
Results: Err:522 in this cell and 0 in many other cells. This is
reproducible.
#2: an empty cell was selected when Ctrl-Alt-F9 was typed in. Results:
everything is correct. This is reproducible too.

I may transmit the whole file if required, but only if this is useful, since it
must first be anonymized.

Expected behavior:

When a cell is modified, all the cells that depend directly or indirectly on it
should be recalculated.

The other cells should not be recalculated, so the computation time should be
short when just one cell is modified.

The cells in other sheets should not be recalculated until the sheet is
selected or the file is saved, unless they have an indirect effect onto the
current sheet.

When Ctrl-Shift-F9 is typed in, all the cells should be recalculated. No cell
should contain Err:522, or 0 or N/A when this is not the correct value.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 73197] Start Center: Recent documents should be resizable

--- Comment #4 from V Stuart Foote vstuart.fo...@utsa.edu ---
IMHO it would not be worth development cycles (or performance impact) to
provide independently resize of thumbnails on the StartCenter.

I could envision resizing if it were a simple small - medium -large radio
button selection (or similar) widget that could be applied to scale the
rendering of ALL recent ODF document thumbnails displayed on the StartCenter.

The size setting should then be stateful in user configuration based on the
selection.

An alternative for dynamic preview (resize to larger rendering) of the ODF
thumbnail on mouse-over using an ALT or CTL key trigger might be a desirable
GUI feature. But that would be a more complicated enhancement -- and would have
performance impact.

The document consists of a single table, which extends over multiple pages.

Having never seen the problem on Mac with LO, the only thing I can think of is
that you have somehow

- selected the whole table by accident ; or
- changed the background colour of the cells, or the table, to be that strange
gray colour ; or

- some other as yet unknown to me possibility.

On my Linux rig, the file opens fine, even if it looks a little strange with
the font choice, will test on OSX

Scanning with LO 4.2.4.2 under Windows XP Pro en_US SP3 x86 works perfectly
both with an HP Photosmart 5520 Multifunction and a Canon LIDE 35.

Maybe this is a Windows 7 and/or x64 specific problem?

do not have, nor tried another version of Libreoffice. The scanner is a
 canon multifunction MP280 completely compatible
with Windows 7 Professional. After installing/reinstalling about 3-4 times,
I gave up. Sorry is didn’t work.

Could you possibly send us a screenshot of the scan window that is not
closable.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 78622] LibreLogo: change in tooltips

2014-06-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78622

--- Comment #2 from Robinson Tryon (qubit) qu...@runcibility.com ---
(In reply to comment #0)
Logo toolbar contains buttons with the following text:

Repro Steps:
- Enable the Logo toolbar via the menu: View - Toolbars - Logo
- See how the buttons look
- See the button tooltips

(In reply to comment #1)
I think the buttons are being true to the commands they represent when a
user is typing them, so i dont think it needs to be elaborated in the
 tooltips.

@jmadero @qubit: What do you think?

Testing Version: 4.3.0.0.beta1 + Ubuntu 12.04.4

The button icons seem decent to me, however when they are docked next to other
toolbars it isn't immediately obvious that they are intended for LOGO purposes.
For example, the icons for Left and Right look very similar to the icons
for Undo and Redo.

As for the tooltip text, some of it is rather confusing. There's a button of an
empty page with tooltip Clear Screen; it's kind of confusing that pressing
that button doesn't clear the screen/page in Writer.

One possible solution would be to put a little turtle graphic (e.g. an
isosceles triangle) in the corner of each LOGO-related button. I'd also suggest
that each tooltip be made more LOGO-descriptive. Even FORWARD 10 might be
confusing unless it's LOGO: FORWARD 10 or Move LOGO turtle FORWARD 10

As for the tooltip text, some of it is rather confusing. There's a button of
an empty page with tooltip Clear Screen; it's kind of confusing that
pressing that button doesn't clear the screen/page in Writer.

The Clear Screen tooltip and button equal to the logo 'CLEARSCREEN' command
which clears the output of the logo turtle.

One possible solution would be to put a little turtle graphic (e.g. an
isosceles triangle) in the corner of each LOGO-related button. I'd also
suggest that each tooltip be made more LOGO-descriptive. Even FORWARD 10
might be confusing unless it's LOGO: FORWARD 10 or Move LOGO turtle
 FORWARD 10

I would suggest the toolbar would have a turtle as its first icon in the
toolbar, so when its docked it easily understandable that everything else in
the toolbar is logo related, as a turtle graphic in each icon will not be
visible in the small icon size.
