Setting importance minor because this seems to be the only bug report
in 3-1/2 years.

Adding keyword needsDevEval, just a guess that this might not be too
hard to fix.

Perhaps the problem has something to do with the digital signature in

This can happen, of course, only in a dbgutil build. I see it in

Video demonstration of ctrl-copy bug in writer

Added a video to demonstrate this.

It is an extremely annoying bug! I don't understand why the same code that is
in Impress/Draw etc. is not just used in Writer as Impress has superior drawing
features (including free rotation of images) and less buggy too (this bug does
not occur, neither do others related to cropping etc.)

Working on debian-stretch I observe in the bibisect-50max repository
that LibreOffice opened the file in about 11 seconds up to the error
message introduced in s-h ebf767ee. The latest version in that
repository also displays the error message.

Within the daily linux dbgutil bibisect repository, my oldest version
(2016-05-26) takes about 1 minute 29 seconds to open the file.

I conclude that the slowness came into LibreOffice sometime between
2015-01-22 and 2016-05-26. I am leaving keyword bibisectRequest in
the hope that somebody can be more helpful than I have been.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 94175] Please add thumbnail view for Writer

2016-12-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94175

Hi there,

A relative (willing to adopt FOSS) recently asked me how to enable the
Thumbnails Pane within LibreOffice. She’s preparing herself for a three years
long research work; LO would be her daily tool to write a hundreds of pages
paper.

At first, I thought the Navigator pane was what she’s looking for. Turned out
it wasn’t; she explained why she’s really missing that thumbnails overview.

1. The way she writes stuff. Some people starts to define a fairly accurate
outline of their document, by putting down sections names, chapters titles,
headings, etc. Other like to write content beforehand. They write a couple of
paragraphs, move it around, cut, merge, edit... and so on until it’s good
enough. I guess either way is fine, it’s just a matter of how you actually
think, work and write.

In such case, certainly more than ever, one needs to go back and forth between
its content shreds. Whereas the navigator pane is out of order, the thumbnails
pane comes in handy.

2. The big picture. It’s hard to scan and hard to not focus too much on the
details when you’re writing. Does that section is long enough compared to the
previous one? Does this paragraph look too packed? How many titles are there in
this page? Those instant feedbacks overview provides give important feeling to
the author.

This point makes me think of code editors and minimaps features. It’s really
convenient when it comes to browse a thousands lines script. The topography the
shape of the code creates helps to visually memorize location of functions.

Nevertheless, I taught her how to properly structure documents using predefined
heading levels, and how the navigator reflects documents outline and provides
convenient ways to edit sections level on the go. She quickly took it in. I’m
pretty confident she’ll never work with word processor the way she used to.

Still, I’m sure a basic thumbnails pane would be very useful to many users,
just like mini-maps have become so popular on many code editors.

Hope it’ll help,
Benjamin.

That is a very old version of the page, just look at the page history - it was
last updated in 2011.

The current version is this:
https://help.libreoffice.org/Common/Configuring_Printer_and_Fax_Under_UNIX_Based_Platforms
- much shorter and no mention of spadmin.

git grep still gives a few hits for spadmin though, I guess we can bury those

Unfortunately, neither "Ignore system input language" option nor unchecking

But setting "Default locale" to English-UK seems to did the trick.

So I'm wondering why the csv import dialog is not propagating the selected
locale to the spreadsheet context... Because in the dialog everything looks
ok...

That's just it: The algorithm is not at all the point here. LibreOffice Writer
_is_. The algorithm specifies how to display bidirectional text. Writer is the
instrument to be used to write text. What we're saying here is that writing is
broken, not how the already-written text is displayed.

Microsoft Word:
- Base direction: LTR
- Write text using strongly typed LTR characters
- switch to RTL language
- write text using strongly type RTL characters, mixed with various bracket
types
-> brackets keep their intended positions

Two possible solutions that I would consider have already been suggested by
Amir E. Aharoni 2013-03-07 11:36:10 UTC:

--- start quote ---
The really good way to resolve this is not to change the Unicode bidi
algorithm, but to add support for inline direction marking to the OpenDocument
standard and then implement it in LibreOffice. Put simply, HTML has and , and OpenDocument only has something like , but not .

Using directionality marks like RLM, RLE and PDF is not a robust way to resolve
this, although if they are used internally and the user doesn't have to use
them directly, it's probably OK.
--- end quote ---

This was not properly reported (clear steps) and triaged (check and reproduce).
Bug is about "spacing above the first line of text: "ELECTRICAL CERTIFICATE OF
COMPIANCE & ELECTRICAL SAFETY CERTIFICATE" but not clear whether FILEOPEN or
FILESAVE.
Anyway, that's similar in MSO and LO, both for fileopen and filesave, even with
LO 5.2.4.

There's a strange logical error here: DOC available as attachment 130016 that
opens with 2 pages BOTH in MSO 2010 and LO was compared to PDF available, which
opens with 1 page.
We cannot compare LO generated PDF with official PDF, which is obviously
different file, we can only compare LO generated PDF with MSO generated PDF.

I'll close as WFM. If proved otherwise, please reopen.

Sorry, I indeed wasn't clear enough. In my previous message I meant you had
contributed on LO (even if it's one time) but thought you'd be interested to
contribute again.
Indeed, you've already made the analysis and found a code pointer (perhaps the
root cause).
I provided the link about gerrit because the process must have changed a bit
after 5 years.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 103919] Mailmerge e-mail does not send all merged documents

2016-12-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=103919

The problem appears to be with latency in combination with monitoring the wrong
variable.

Currently If I send 63 messages to smtp.gmail.com, Libreoffice gives the
appearance of struggling to keep up. It appears to pre-process all the batch of
63 messages quite quickly. In parallel with the pre-processing it sends
processed messages to the smtp server this is done at a slow pace. Once it's
pre-processed all 63 messages it doesn't wait until all the messages have been
sent but just closes the dialog stopping Libreoffice from sending any more
messages to smtp.gmail.com. Hence the problem.

If I start an smtp server on my own machine and send the messages to localhost
I don't see this problem as the messages have got less distance to travel and
keep pace with the pre-processing.

In the past up to and including LO 5.1 the progress dialog was always kept open
and had to be closed manually. I have tested a patch that will revert to that
behavior. I will submit it to gerret during the week commencing Monday 2nd
January 2017.

Simple way to reproduce the case "other behavior" (Shutdown LO hangs):
- open LO
- File -> New -> Spreadsheet
- enter something in cell A1
- insert a comment to cell A1 (this is the difference to the first case)
- copy cell A1 into clipboard
- paste clipboard content into any other cell (e.g. A2 or B1)
- save the document and close LO --> Shutdwon of LO hangs: LO Windows is
closed, but in the task manager remain 2 processes and hinder a new start of LO

reproduced with LO 5.3.0 RC1 and with LO 5.4.0

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 91132] FILESAVE: save a copy or PDF export -> ending isn' t handled well if filename ends with ".1"

2016-12-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91132

@tommy: no that's not completely true. I had a patch file which ended ".2" or a
simply text file and i said in the explorer open that file with application XYZ
(doesn't matter in that case)

the problem is here: libreoffice uses windows to detec the file extension which
recognizes that as a valid extension and then saves the PDF (if you exports the
file to pdf) as ".1" (or whatever is the last part of the FILENAME) instead of
simply adding the .PDF after the filename (although it is hidden if you
checkmark the option)

The q is now for the ux-advice team: is that intended - i do not believe.

Attached a file named TEXTFORMAT.

Open the TEXTFORMAT.RTF file in MS Wordpad. Should display simple text in
various formats, (bold, italic, colours, etc.)

Select all text and paste (CTL+V) in to a new Writer document at LO v5.2.4. All
text formatting is lost.

Now paste (CTL+V) all text in a new Writer document at LO v5.1.6. Text
formatting is preserved.

Identical results achieved when copying from other editors/document processors,
(e.g. LPEX in Eclipse). Even Bold and Italic text formatting in Notepad is
removed on CTL+V in LO v5.2.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 104943] Calc says that an empty file... has links to other files.

2016-12-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104943

Hi!

Anyway Calc should tell users that the external links couldn't be opened :-?
(in this case because the external file does not exist). That way, the user
would notice sooner that his spreadsheet got corrupted because in the screen
they would see the (very strange) name of an inexistent file that (of course)
could not be opened.

The sooner the user notices the problem, the sooner he can give more clues.

To investigate that I've created a new bug report:
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105006
Feel free to change anything.

Thanks for Calc!

Hi!

As seen in https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104943 :

Calc can open a file which has links pointing to... an inexistent file, when
Calc asks the user if he wants to update the links and the user agrees... he
should be warned that the operation failed because e.g. the file does not exist
(instead of Calc saying nothing, as if the operation was successful).

Thanks!

Fixed on 64-bit builds at 5.3.0 with
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=3cecadbddd137770552ceaad018336e195233e4a

but is dependent on 64-bit TWAIN DSM and valid data source ".ds" description
installed to system by some external action.

SourceForge TWAINDSM.dll can not be directly registered with regsrv32, and the
bundled .msm installer module must be parsed.

The commit

https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=ddafafe5f91e565be418e20eb7e447f8b1849f94

is from way back in 2011 and I would suggest unrelated to this problem. It
looks to be that it was committed, in 2011, on my behalf by Norbert Thiebaud.
I've not come across the problem it was to fix since then. So I suggest that
patch has been applied or the that bug solved in some other way.

Is there something I'm missing as to why it should be reviewed by gerrit?

In that case, I'd go with "kb" that prints stack trace and "~* kp" to dump the
whole stack.

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Open the Basic IDE, write some code and set a breakpoint.

The image in the breakpoint window (the small area left of the code) is wrong.
It shows the "folder" icon of the tree view of the libraries (= im30820.png).
It should be a red circle (= im30838.png).

The images had been im30838.png and im30839.png. But the error is not only the
missing images, but even if you copy them to the theme image-zip, they are not
used.

It was OK in version 5.4.0.0.alpha0+

I can reproduce it with Windows (but I have forced it)
Version: 5.4.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: a7c51323b7343f82b5aea6098f5d5e31a8bad0e9
CPU Threads: 4; OS Version: Windows 6.19; UI Render: default;
TinderBox: Win-x86@42, Branch:master, Time: 2016-12-29_23:35:20
Locale: nl-NL (nl_NL); Calc: CL

Steps to reproduce:
1. Reduce memory settings in Tools -> Options -> LibreOffice(Dev) -> Memory
I used: Image Cache settings: 30MB, 12MB, 00:02; Cache for Inserted object: 2
2. Set AutoRecovery information to 1 minute (not sure it's relevant)
3. Open attachment 130034 (first two images are PDF)
4. Enable Multi-Page view
5. Scroll to the bottom.
6. Add or delete something (ADD for example ABC to the last page)
6. Wait a minute
7. Scroll up.
8. Image on the first page is missing
9. Scroll down
10. Scroll up again; second image disappears

The following might help Jan-Marek

A)
If in step 17 instead of pressing the "Next >>" Button the "Finish" button is
pressed, the dialog will close successfully. This third call of the Wizard, in
this current session, won't crash. This procedure has to be repeated each time
there's a successful merge and the Wizard is restarted in the current session.

B)
Remove this code in sw/source/ui/dbui/mailmergewizard.cxx !!!

if (m_xConfigItem->GetTargetView())
{
//close the dialog, remove the target view, show the source view
m_nRestartPage = _nState;
//set ResultSet back to start
m_xConfigItem->MoveResultSet(1);
EndDialog(RET_REMOVE_TARGET);
return;
}

Meanwhile, let's put this one to NEW since cpohle confirms there's a pb without
