[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 98446] Hide Whitespace option grayed-out intermittently
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98446 Mike Kaganski changed: What|Removed |Added Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution|--- |NOTABUG --- Comment #14 from Mike Kaganski --- This is not a bug. The "Hide Whitespace" option is only available for Single-page view mode (available in right part of status bar as single sheet icon, or using menu View-.Zoom->Zoom...->View Layout section). In this mode, both inter-page spaces, as well as blank parts of pages, are "skipped", thus each page height is distorted to take as little space as possible. But for two other modes (Multi-page view, and Book view), this option is unavailable, and that's for a reason: in these modes, the option has (almost) no sense. The modes make pages to be shown in rows of several pages, and making each page to have different height doesn't allow to create a good-looking multi-page layout. Even though it would be possible to remove inter-page space, this would make it less obvious and readable (because then, any column would appear as one long page, while it's expected that user reads left page first, then right, then moves down). The setting is kept in file, so it's natural that some files open in one mode, and some in another. Also, if a file format doesn't allow for storing the view mode information in it, then saving in this format will "workaround" the situation - but the proper way is to simply enable desired view mode by clicking the relevant icon in status bar. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 108016] New: Calc offers less user control than Excel when inserting rows
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108016 Bug ID: 108016 Summary: Calc offers less user control than Excel when inserting rows Product: LibreOffice Version: 5.3.3.2 release Hardware: x86 (IA32) OS: Windows (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Calc Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: timbacont...@gmail.com Description: The root cause is that, unlike Excel, Calc always uses the formatting of the row above, regardless of whether you insert above or below and regardless of which row you apply that operation to. I've typed the steps into the attached spreadsheet along with some formatted cells so you can do the steps yourself as you read them. Steps to Reproduce: 1.see spreadsheet titled with the number of this report 2. 3. Actual Results: Calc doesn't offer the flexibility to save time in formatting. Expected Results: Calc should be as good or better than Excel in all cases. I've said this one every report I've entered, so you might wonder why I don't just use Excel. It's because for every time Calc fails to live up to Excel, it exceeds in at least two other instances. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: I call this a bug because I believe the spec should be "do no harm - Calc must not be worse than Microsoft Excel" - if that's not the spec then this is of course an enhancement request. As always, I implore you to have someone who tests only formatting, not math functions. If you do this, you'll see how frustrating this aspect of the program is. Steps to Reproduce: 1. edit a cell containing text using Courier New 2. In Excel, click in the font name field Excel result (desirable): the font field is selected in its entirety Calc result (undesirable): the cursor is inserted where you clicked and you must drag over the font name, or type control+a 3. Still in Excel, type "Calibri" 4. Still in Excel, use the mouse to click the font size dropdown Excel result (desirable): the cell changes to Calibri and the font menu drops down Calc result (undesirable): as soon as you click on the size dropdown, the font dropdown reverts to Courier New Actual Results: In both cases, Excel's behavior requires less user action and is cleaner. Expected Results: Calc should never be harder, less intuitive or buggier than Excel.. If this isn't near the top of the product spec, then the spec itself is my single biggest complaint about Calc. Calc users coming from Excel must surely outnumber Calc users who haven't used Excel by at least a thousand fold. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 48291] [EDITING] Auto insert copied rows
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48291 --- Comment #2 from Kevin --- This basic Excel feature is still missing in Calc 5.3.2.2 - five years after then initial report. I'm not privy to the spec for this project, but I feel adamantly that the baseline starting point for Calc should have been to reproduce that which is good about Microsoft Excel, and that Calc's ultimate raison d'être should be to alleviate the pain of what's bad about Excel. Excel's right-click command "Insert Copied Rows" is powerful, extremely useful, and bug free. It enables you to retain vast amounts of formatting and we know that formatting is the weakest and most unintuitive aspect of Calc. How did the development process not go through a phase of simply creating a bug-free Excel, and then adding new features? How could such positive feature as "insert copied cells" not have been added? Am I missing the whole point of the Libre Office project? Was its only goal to provide a free alternative or was it meant to provide something much more important - a truly elegant spreadsheet editor? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

But this can be easily solved by adding a space escaping into lclConvertToCanonicalName. > Was thinking that the work around would be to make alias commands for each > of the styles and then it is easy to assign icons to those. Every single customization in Writer has to be done twice. But I think there are many people who would hate to have the same toolbars in Writer documents and Writer master documents.
