[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 114192] Please cache results psp::PrintFontManager:: analyzeFontFile font scan at startup

2017-11-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=114192

It appears pspfontcache was removed in babf6d5e53516e80e8e3f2485796ebfaeb20e9c1
...

Here, I timed it with a stopwatch, that font scan is ~30s on a cold cache. Even
on a warm cache (from immediately closing & re-opening LibreOffice), it's ~20s.

$ fc-list | wc -l
4433

I'm sure that's part of the difference (10x as many fonts), but possibly the
author & reviewers have SSDs as well? This machine has HDDs in RAID10, 16GiB
RAM, and an i7-3770.

I found out, that Notepad is the same as Windows editor. I also tried WordPad
and I had no problem. So I really have no idea, what I can do, to reproduce it.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 114192] New: Please cache results psp::PrintFontManager:: analyzeFontFile font scan at startup

2017-11-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=114192

Bug ID: 114192
   Summary: Please cache results
psp::PrintFontManager::analyzeFontFile font scan at
startup
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.4.2.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: anth...@derobert.net

At least on my system, every time I start LibreOffice, the startup time is
mostly with the progress bar sitting in the middle & the disk pegged. Checking
with strace & gdb, it appears that psp::PrintFontManager::analyzeFontFile is
open/mmap/close'ing every font on the system (and read'ing a bunch too).

I had a pspfontcache file in my profile; just to confirm it wasn't corrupt, I
deleted it. Even after a few restarts of LibreOffice, it hasn't been
regenerated. I went ahead and deleted the entire psprint directory; that was
recreated, but is now empty. I have no files name "pspfontcache" anywhere in
$HOME.

PS: Not sure why this exists at all — shouldn't all this info be available from
fontconfig? But that's surely a different bug, if a bug at all.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the Windows editor". I usually use
Notepad. I just tried again with Write (AKA, WordPad). I checked the file
with a hex editor. The file produced by LibreOffice does *not* have an
end-of-line mark at the end of every line that appeared on the screen when I
was in LibreOffice Writer. It just has an end-of-line mark at the end of each
paragraph, which is also each place I hit when I was originally
entering the text.

I see that you're using Version 6 of LibreOffice, and running under
Windows 10. At least it makes some sense that you get different results.

... "a media player" ... ?

Which media player?
Many media players have their own built-in codecs.
DirectShow is not involved in that case.
So using many players to test is not going to give useful results.

I test with Windows Media Player (WMP).
WMP is going to use the same codecs and splitters available to the operating
system.
If it plays in WMP, it should play in LibreOffice.

Have you tested with Windows Media Player?

Also I would like to see if you installing the same MainConcept encoding app
that I have installed would solve the issue on your test system.
I can upload it somewhere (~65MB) if you would like to test.

Still there are some remaining issues with rotating and shifting.
I'm investigating it, but it is very complicated to resolve that.
I'm sure that solution is trivial, but it is very hard to find it.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 114189] New: Order of Hebrew chars in some PDFs reversed by Draw

2017-11-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=114189

Bug ID: 114189
Summary: Order of Hebrew chars in some PDFs reversed by Draw
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.0.0.0.beta1
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Draw
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: eyal...@technion.ac.il

Description:
Many PDFs containing Hebrew text are such that, if you open them in a PDF
viewer, the Hebrew text is displayed with proper directions and orders of
glyphs; and selecting text from the PDF produces raw text in the clipboard in
the correct order, i.e. it's not just some tromp-l'oeil for display purposes -
and yet, if you open that same PDF in LO Draw - the order of the Hebrew glyphs
gets reversed.

In fact, this happens even with PDFs created by LibreOffice itself (e.g.
exported from LO Writer)!

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open LO writer
2. Set the direction to RTL and the language to Hebrew
3. Write a few words, say, אחת שתיים שלוש ארבע
4. Export a PDF (don't save as PDF)
5. Open the attached PDF file in Draw.

Actual Results:
The text you see is: עברא שולש םייתש תחא

Expected Results:
The text you should see is: אחת שתיים שלוש ארבע

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Same thing happens with Arabic. Type: واحد اثنين ثلاثة أربعة in the ODT file.

While this bug is a real one, I'm setting the priority to low as this doesn't
prevent anyone from using LibO. Also, Hebrew has more important usability and

You are likely aware of the shortcut that we have today, ctrl+page up/down. The
annoyance here is that you have to move your fingers to an unusual place, like
grabbing the mouse in other cases. Ctr+tab is just a few millimeter away from
the resting position. And it's standard.

My last comment is not complete. If you save a template with "Menu: File >
Templates > Save as template ..." there is no problem. But if you save
templates with "Menu: File > Save as... > Type file name and choose file type:
ODF Text Document Template (.ott) (*.ott)" the proplem still exists. Hence set
status back to NEW.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 114186] New: Portrait formatted page switches to landscape when printing.

2017-11-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=114186

Bug ID: 114186
Summary: Portrait formatted page switches to landscape when
printing.
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.4.1.2 release
  Hardware: Other
OS: Mac OS X (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: davist...@gmail.com

Description:
A page created in portrait mode switches to landscape when sending to a
printer. Changing the page width from 8.5" to either 8.49" of 8.51" fixes the
problem. Changing to any size other than "letter" fixes the problem. Apparently
this bug has been reported before but not fixed. Running Version: 5.4.2.2
Build ID: 22b09f6418e8c2d508a9eaf86b2399209b0990f4 on Mac with macOS 10.13.1.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Create a document in portrait mode with size set to Letter (8.5 x 11).
2.Send to printer (File > print)
3.Format switches to landscape with text running Off the side.

Actual Results:
Can't print a page in portrait mode set to Letter size

Expected Results:
Page prints normally in portrait mode.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

OpenGL enabled: Yes

I see your point. I guess we should not go there.
Though it would be nice if we had a little more width to click on to select a
row in a table than 1mm. could it be 5-10mm?

I am only glad you feel not obliged to provide the same UI as MSO, I like the
LO UI better than MSO UI. I think the devil is in the detail and it pays to do
these minor improvements, especially with often reoccurring actions like
selecting.

I can add a page break at the beginning of a TOC, but it is part of the TOC. So
I think it might be the problem, that you can't add a line before the TOC.

I'm not a developer, so I can't assess, if both problems can be solved
together.

Make that select paragraph one click. I only use select line for Headers, but
headers are always a one-line-paragraph, so selecting paragraph would do the
same.

Maybe an extra idea would be that the number of clicks in the margin is the
number of paragraphs selected.
1 click > select 1 paragraph
2 click > select 2 paragraph
3 click > select 3 paragraph
etc.

That would come in very handy and is intuitive and easy to remember

Frankly I never use Alt+1 ... 8 in the browser. Why? because you have to pause
and think what number the tab is. You simply do not do that.

Also it does not solve the problem. We need Ctrl+TAB most when we have lots of
sheets. For me that is daily practice. I have sheets with products, weeks,
clients etc that can be up to a hundred tabs. I want to be able to switch
quickly between a particular week, product, client and another sheet. This can
be total sheet, but also related sheet, that you are copying from.

Now it is really cumbersome. You have browse through the tabs as the tab you
want to go is often not visible.

Ctrl+Tab is all I need.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 114184] New: Replace non-single-quote apostrophes with Geresh when appropriate

2017-11-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=114184

Bug ID: 114184
Summary: Replace non-single-quote apostrophes with Geresh when
appropriate
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.0.0.0.beta1
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: eyal...@technion.ac.il

Description:
In Hebrew, the Geresh character (׳) is used for abbreviations, unlike English
which uses the period (.).

Thus if in English, 123 Oak Street may be abbreviated as 123 Oak St., in
Hebrew,
רחוב האלון 123 becomes רח׳ האלון 123. The Geresh character is _not_ supposed to
be used for in single-quotation marks (well, if you do your typesetting right,
anyway). There's a separate character for that which is / is based on Mercha.

Both Geresh and Mercha have their doublings, i.e. Gershaim and Merchaot.
Gershaim is used to denote acronyms, e.g. דרישת שלום is a ד״ש.

In practice, however, Hebrew keyboard lacks keys for Geresh and for Gershaim
(and for Mercha and Merchaot), so people use apostrophe (') and double-quotes
(") instead of Geresh/Mercha and Gershaim/Merchaot/bottom Merchaot
respectively: רח' האלון 123 and ד"ש.

Now, the auto-correction feature sometimes (rarely? perhaps only when importing
Word documents or from a previous LO version?) mistakes a single apostrophe
character, at the end of an abbreviated word and before a space, a period, a
comma and so on, for a single quotation mark, and replaces it with, well, I'm
not sure exactly what - probably a stylized quotation mark for the non-CTL
font. It should never do that.

Also, even if it doesn't make the replacement - it should actually replace the
apostrophe with a Geresh character (or replace on condition that the Hebrew
font has a glyph for it).

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set your CTL font to a Hebrew font with a clear difference between a single
(opening) quotation mark and a Geresh.
2. Enable single-quote autocorrect
3. Switch paragraph direction to Hebrew
4. Switch the input language to Hebrew
5. Type in רח' האלון 123.

Actual Results:
The apostrophe either stays as-is (U+0x27), or is replaced with a single
opening quotation mark (U+0x2019)

Expected Results:
The apostrophe is replaced with a Geresh (U+0x5F3)

Reproducible: Always

Sample doc with font used.

Sample text with two lines containing 'Narad' . Second line has Narad font
applied. Same gets shown in font preview.

Have a glyph map from fontforge but not attaching since might raise copyright
issue.

Main spreadsheet programs use it from ever, at least in 1982 Lotus 123 used it
so.
LibreOffice can't limit their usability because others use a keystroke in, for
me, not the right way.

IMHO the only possible solution it's @Aron's comment#6, having an option to
disable their use.

the second word in search box (Browser written in Hindi)

This font is not a Devanagari Opentype font. Its Latin-1 encoded with
devanagari glyphs, or custom encoded one.
Not to be used for Devanagari based languages on LibreOffice.

What is seen in preview is glyphs encoded for letters in 'Narad'. So for the
font preview is correct.

Reproduced.

In 5.0.2.2 and 4.4.7.2, step 12 works as expected. Step 13 and 14 are the same
as 5.4 and newer.

So let's call for a bibisect for the step 12.

It's a problem of LibreOffice because
1. This problem does not exist in LibreOffice before.
2. A key for a new function is used that makes problems.

So please offer a solution.
Thank you!

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04.3 MATE with LibreOffice from PPA
(ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-5-4 ) with Marco (Software compositor) window
manager.

I have configured two input languages - English and Russian; I switch them with
, ScrollLock LED indicates second (Russian) layout.
So in /etc/default/keyboard I have

# KEYBOARD CONFIGURATION FILE

# Consult the keyboard(5) manual page.

XKBMODEL="pc105"
XKBLAYOUT="us,ru"
XKBVARIANT=","
XKBOPTIONS="grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll"

BACKSPACE="guess"

LibreOffice Calc works very strange.
Its version is

version is

Version: 5.4.2.2
Build ID: 1:5.4.2~rc2-0ubuntu0.16.04.1~lo1
CPU threads: 2; OS: Linux 4.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk2;
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); Calc: group

$ apt-cache policy libreoffice-calc
libreoffice-calc:
  Installed: 1:5.4.2~rc2-0ubuntu0.16.04.1~lo1
  Candidate: 1:5.4.2~rc2-0ubuntu0.16.04.1~lo1
  Version table:

500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main i386 Packages

How to reproduce this:
1. Open Calc, create new document
2. Fill document cells with some data
3. Switch keyboard layout to Russian
4. Try to move focus from one cell to another with keyboard arrow keys

Expected results:
* arrow keys move cell selection

Actual results:
* arrow keys move entire sheet

Notes:
* if I disable Scroll Lock LED indication Calc moves cell selection as usual.
* versions 1:5.1.2-0ubuntu1 from official repository (xenial/main) does not
have such problem.
* version 1:5.1.6~rc2-0ubuntu1~xenial2 from official repository
(xenial-updates/main, xenial-security/main) does not have such problem.

Please fix this bug. LibreOffice Calc should not care about ScrollLock LED
state.
