Because one of the various objects allows the operation? Don't you expect the

It would be nice if these two functions added to Track Changes toolbar since we
have added it also Review tab in NB user interface.

A document with a section with white background

Original report:
https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/171381/what-controls-white-background-of-writer-document/

In the attached document, the text has white background (apparent when
Options→LibreOffice→Application Colors→Document background is set to
non-white). There are three nested sections; and upon inspection, all of them
show that there is no area fill in them. But setting the innermost section's
("mv-content-text") area to some solid color, applying the change, then setting
it back to None makes the background transparent; so obviously, there *is* some
color set in the section's background.

The bug is, therefore, incorrect display of actual background setting.

The sample file with bidi control characters

This is the intended bidirectional text layout, characters with neutral
directionality follow the direction of the enclosing text (RTL here since the
overall text is RTL). You can change this by using Unicode direction control
characters. Enclosing the abbreviation between U+202A LEFT-TO-RIGHT EMBEDDING
and U+202C POP DIRECTIONAL FORMATTING fixes the rendering. I don’t know if
there is a way to automatically insert these control characters around some
words.

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 86867] Bidi error in inserted fields

2018-11-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86867

** Please read this message in its entirety before responding **

** Please read this message in its entirety before responding **

4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 115119] Icons Look Wrong

2018-11-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=115119

The kind of error, which I see in the attachment by Jay belongs to HiDPI
problems. The meta bug for it is bug 90796. I want to be sure, that it is such
problem, therefore ask for the scaling.

(In reply to Howard Johnson from comment #10)
> Regina, I can't speak for Jay, but I observed the messed up icons on Linux.
> For what it's worth: I have two screens: a) 17" laptop 1600x900 and b) 24"
> hdmi 1920x1080.

Linux might have different problems. Please examine the existing bugs, e.g.
those listed in the bug 90796. I'm quite sure that your problem is already
reported. This issue is about Windows.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 114924] FORMATTING - Adapt shape Width/Height to text option not available

2018-11-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=114924

There exist several kind of drawing objects. They handle the text different. In
styles all options are available because a style can be applied to different
kind of objects. But in the direct formatting of a shape, you get only the
properties which can be actually applied (at least that should be).

Text boxes including legacy callouts have: Either "Fit to Frame" or ("Fit
height to text" and "Fit width to text"). If "Fit width to text" is not
checked, line wrap is enabled.

Legacy shapes and polygons have: "Fit to Frame" (= streching) and "Adjust to
Contour". The latter means, that the text reaches to the outline of the shape.
That is different to custom shapes, where the text is limited to the rectangle
area, which is defined in the enhanced geometry of the custom shape. You see
the difference, if you compare a legacy circle with a custom shape circle.

Custom shapes have: "Word wrap text in shape" and "Resize shape to fit text".

So you can have "Fit height to text" and "Fit width to text" in the
Position dialog only, if a text box or legacy callout has been selected.

There had been a bug, that for text boxes these settings were not enabled, but
that bug is fixed in the meantime.

For me this is a "worksforme".

System is Ubuntu 18.04 with Version: 6.2.0.0.alpha1+

With GTK3 enabled creating a new Writer file based on the attached template
crashes the application every time.

Running with GTK off, x11 enabled, no problem creating a file from the
template.

No problem with any other versions of LO from those on local disc (6.1, 6.0)
with GTK2 enabled. I have not tried GTK3 with 6.1.3 yet, will do that.

To reproduce.

1 - download the attached template.
2 - attempt to create a new file by opening it.
Crash

I think, that the attached document compares the wrong functions. The wizard
calculates a "Paired t-test". Therefore the variables need to have the same
count of samples and you need to compare it with T.Test with type=1.

If I call the wizard with 170 values from both F and M and use the T.Test
function with type=1, I get the same result.

Sample file correctly exported to .odt with Word 2016

LO uses 8x8 pattern, while MSO uses 32x32. The dots patterns do map well, but
this is not true for many others. A universal fix would be to import patterns
the same way MSO exports them to ODF, by converting the pattern to a tiled
bitmap.

> Use case: A page contains images, shapes and text boxes and there is no way
> to multiselect all items. That's necessary in particular for the first page

> and all items have to be moved, e.g. by cut/paste.

The problem in that case is, that there is no simple way to insert a paragraph
before the first one and setting a "break before" does not automatically insert
such paragraph. [Current workaround is to enter a table or section before,
change the table to text or remove the section and then insert the page break.]

For the missing feature of selecting different kind of objects and across
pages, I can image a solution via Navigator. So that you can select several
objects/images/frames in the Navigator even if they are far away in the
document, and delete them then with Del-key [or do some common styling e.g.
right align them]. Cut has the problem, that the paragraph or character
to which the objects were anchored, are not included in the Cut. The result
would be, that all objects would be anchored at the same paragraph on Paste, so
that the original relative position to each other is lost.

Just wanted to post a follow up, appears that the fix was just pushed out in
the last update from Flathub (6.1.3.2). The windows are opening much better.
Some are still a little bit off screen, like occasionally the bottom row in
Calc, but nothing unworkable like before.

Thank you.

You are right, it was because of some space in D13, thank you. I was searching
for that P character to see the spaces and blank lines, as I suspected it might
be something like that, but I have no idea in which toolbar to find it, my
screen does not show it.

But.. This still is only the local/individual fix. The problem is that what I
see on screen does not fit the print, so I did not know what to edit. I should
see that line or it should not be in the print.

I have checked (on 6.1.3.2) and, indeed, the output seems the expected one,
with the reference to the canonic style Heading1.

This is how Microsoft Word presents it:

And this is how LibreOffice presents it:

It's pretty much identical!

This should make it possible for pandoc to process it correctly... And yet
pandoc finds a difference between the 2. It compiles correctly the docx
produced by Word:

$ pandoc simple.docx
This is the title 1
This is the title 2
Hello this is the paragraph hello. …

while for the same docx produced by LibreOffice:

$ pandoc simple.docx
This is the title 1
This is the title 2
Hello this is the paragraph hello.

Admittedly, passing the pandoc compilation might not be the in the spec of
LibreOffice Write. But, as Data would say, "This is intriguing."

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 121149] LibreOffice crashes on startup in Kubuntu 18.04 (with malloc errors or no output)

/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice --calc --nologo --norestore --safe-mode
--valgrind 2>&1 | tee valgrind.log

As mentioned, the --valgrind option allowed the program to get past the splash
screen, showed the safe mode dialog, and even opened a new document, but this
process was excruciatingly slow, and the program froze up whenever I tried to
open menus.

Search for "malloc" to jump to malloc error.

Bingo, this was the solution. The -bin package was installed, but the other one
was not. Having both packages installed fixed the problem. So right, this is
NOTOURBUG.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 88560] Wrong Date-input in form gives different values, depended on fieldproperties

--- Comment #7 from rob...@familiegrosskopf.de ---
Bug still exists in LO 6.1.3.2 64bit rpm Linux. Wrong date in a datefield of a
form changes to value of current date. Could be somebody had implemented this
to get the current data as default-value to this form-field. Have tested this -
will work well! But if there is somebody who will fix this bug I can't use this
"trick".

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 121182] New: Western acronyms not correctly formatted in RTL context

2018-11-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=121182

Bug ID: 121182
Summary: Western acronyms not correctly formatted in RTL
context
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.0.6.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: page74010...@yahoo.fr

Description:
An LTR acronym like C++ or C# (i.e. a combination of Latin letters with symbols
at some end) is inserted in an RTL language paragraph (Persian, Arabic,
Hebrew). To make sure the acronym is considered as a whole, it is marked with a
character style with "language" set to "None" or "English".

Despite this mark up, the symbol keeps its "context-sensitive" directionality
property. Since the document language is Persian, the ending symbol (+ or #)
being adjacent to Persian text (spaces do not matter) reverts to RTL
directionality and the acronym is laid out as ++C or #C.

It looks like CTL styles which contain two parts, Western Font and CTL Font,
select the part to be applied from some criterion intrinsic to the character,
not from some user-defined attribute. There no way to force the "language" for
a sequence of characters. This is important for punctuation and symbols which
seem to be auto-adaptative, directionality-wise.

This may be the intended behaviour (in which case it is not a bug) but I found
no indication about it. In common cases, this is the correct behaviour because
symbols like + / may occur in text and should be laid out as a monotonous
sequence (no direction change).

However, in technical papers, there is a need to quote weird mixed
(latin+symbols) sequence and to force directionality on it.

This report originates in an AskLO question at
https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/171132/ltr-words-inside-an-rtl-sentence/

The only ugly workaround I found is to enclose the problematic sequence with
Latin letters like aC++a (in fact C++a works also here because C is already a
Latin letter) and to format the a's as hidden.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Type some RTL text (e.g.Arabic)
2. Insert somewhere " C++ "
3. Optionally, force language to None (ineffective since no spellchecker is
involved)

Actual Results:
Acronym C++ in the middle of an RTL sentence is formatted as ++C

Expected Results:
Acronym C++ in the middle of an RTL text should be displayed as C++ provided
there is way to inform LO Writer that this is an LTR sequence as a whole

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 105711] FIREBIRD: Couldn't create a varchar-field with less than 20 characters in GUI

2018-11-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105711

--- Comment #13 from rob...@familiegrosskopf.de ---
Have tested it again with LO 6.1.3.2, 64bit rpm Linux. I could put 20
characters in a field if I use the first 128 characters of ASCII
('12345678901234567890'). With special German characters it is set to 10
characters. Have tested this with two databases: a migrated database and an
external database, linked to a Firebird file.

Have downloaded the second example. There must be something different. I could
add only 5 characters. If I add more than 5 charcters the message "Value too
long" appears. With this example it works right, with databases created in LO
6.1.3.2 it works wrong: more than 5 characters, no message when writing down
more than 20 characters - only the length will be cut.
