[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 107555] Apply the 'Default Style' table style to newly inserted tables
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107555 --- Comment #16 from Dieter Praas --- (In reply to Jim Raykowski from comment #15) > Dieter, Hieko, and all interested in finding a good solution for this, > > Currently when a table is inserted using either the Insert Table dialog or > the Insert Table control button, "Default Style" autoformat is used only as > a template to create the table and is not assigned the autoformat "Default > Style". The change of Default style template this will perhaps reduce confusion (bug 124206). > This provides for user direct formatting not being replaced when > rows are inserted Actual there's a different behaviour, depending if you mark a whole row or just put the cursor in a cell (see bug 126008). > This could be > extended to all autoformat styles by adding a check box in the Insert Table > dialog to use the table style as a template or as an autoformat. Maybe this > will cause more confusion. I'm not sure, if the majority of the users are aware about the differences between template and autoformat (I also learnt something from your explanation, Jim). So I also think, this could cause more confusion. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present. If you have time, please do the following: Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/ If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. Please DO NOT Update the version field Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker) Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case) If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ 2. Test your bug 3. Leave a comment with your results. 4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo'; 4b. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 126015] Unable to spellcheck in Libreoffice Writer 6.0.7.3 on Ubuntu 18.04
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=126015 --- Comment #4 from JamesCobban --- Dieter, The fact that I am running Ubuntu 18.04, the most recent long term support release, should indicate that I am reluctant to take risks with my system. On the LibreOffice website the latest release recommended for people like me is 6.1.6 and 6.2.4 is advertised as being for the adventurous. I understand the recommendation to approach Ubuntu support, since if spellcheck were failing across the board, that is as a result of the common portion of the LibreOffice code base, this would have been raised a long time ago. However against what component of Ubuntu do I raise the issue? And even then the most probably response from the Ubuntu team will be to upgrade to 19.04 and try to reproduce the problem there. I appreciate Julian's suggestion to install the package from the PPA but it has been a couple of years since I last used a PPA. The instructions in the supplied URL are clear, but far from reassuring: You can update your system with unsupported packages from this untrusted PPA by adding ppa:libreoffice/ppa to your system's Software Sources. (Read about installing) sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa sudo apt-get update Will I be easily able to back out to a supported release of LibreOffice if I issue those two commands? Now suppose I install libreoffice-fresh. If the spellcheck still does not work that is fine, because then the project team knows that this is a bug that must be addressed, and you will suggest additional tests for me to perform and additional information to collect. But what if the fresh version WORKS? That is the problem has already been fixed or was some strange interaction between the LibreOffice 6.0.7.3 and Ubuntu 18.04? You can relax knowing that there is a solution that you can offer to other users. But what do I do since by that point I am running an unsupported release of LibreOffice and will therefore inevitably have to install a supported release at some point? As the King of Siam says in the musical "The King and I": "A puzzlement." Balancing all of these issues, and considering the advice you have supplied and where it is coming from I believe I will bite the bullet and upgrade to Ubuntu 19.04 which comes with LibreOffice 6.2.2. If that solves my problem everybody is happy, and I have an improved version to boot. If I still have the issue I will try installing the latest PPA then. Thank you for your advice. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 107555] Apply the 'Default Style' table style to newly inserted tables
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107555 --- Comment #15 from Jim Raykowski --- Dieter, Hieko, and all interested in finding a good solution for this, Currently when a table is inserted using either the Insert Table dialog or the Insert Table control button, "Default Style" autoformat is used only as a template to create the table and is not assigned the autoformat "Default Style". This provides for user direct formatting not being replaced when rows are inserted or deleted or when the document is reopened. This could be extended to all autoformat styles by adding a check box in the Insert Table dialog to use the table style as a template or as an autoformat. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 125999] Add button name to extended tooltips
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=125999 --- Comment #4 from Ulf Zibis --- I have some coaching clients whom I support on using LO. For beginners I often have enabled the extended tooltips, so they better know what a button is doing. The problem then is, when they have questions via phone, they can't tell me the name of the button, they have questions on. For example in Calc there are three buttons for sorting. It's difficult to explain someone which button I mean, without knowing the name of the button. Even for me with some rarely used functions it would better to always the know the name to better remember it or find some info about it in the web. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

The way it works nowadays is awful. How it should work: 1. It should allow setting up the order the conditional formats are applied. 2. If a conditional format affects DIFFERENT cell attributes: both conditional formats should be applied. Ex.: CF1 changes only cells background and CF2 changes only font color. If a cell content matches both CF1 and CF2, it will have a background ant color font changed. 3. If a conditional format affects the SAME cell attribute, I imagine 2 possibilities, to be thought and chosen: 3.1. Only the first CF is applied. 3.2. Both of them are applied, so the last one remains. 3.3. Another possibility is to warn the user and ask her/him to choose the desired behavior. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 126009] Increasing margin size does not reflect new constraints for header values without closing and reopening the Page Style dialog

One of them (header_height_visibly_constrained.mp4) shows normal behaviour where: 1. The margins are set higher 2. The Page Style dialog is closed with the OK button 3. The Page Style dialog is reopened 4. Header height value is set to higher value than can be accepted (23.26cm) 5. Header height value is decreased to 18.46cm as soon as the input field is deselected. The other (header_height_not_visibly_constrained.mp4) shows the unexpected behaviour where: 1. The margins are set higher. 2. The change is applied with the Apply button 3. Without closing the Page Style dialog, the header tab is selected 4. The header height is set to a higher value than can be accepted (23.26cm) 5. The header height is not decreased after the input field is deselected. 6. Change in the header height value from 23.26cm that was input to 18.46cm is only visible once the Page Style dialog is closed and reopened. Other input fields in Writer conform to the first scenario where the value is decreased immediately so the user knows that their input was not accepted -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

Ah nice. Missed that. So we would need an explicit rename commit without further changes in the source and git could handle that transparently. Normally you rename the file and change all the class stuff in one go, so that's probably why I had the impression that everything was treated as a deleted + new file instead of a rename. And besides the requested improvements to our infra structure there are more aspects worth to consider. I would like if we decouple the l10n effort from the release cycle and don't compile localization into the application but have an easy way to add. At least on Linux, the list of localizations spams the repository. And default combinations such as western, ctl, cjk are sometimes also not helpful, eg. when I want to just switch between Hebrew and English. So my take here is to have the localizations as extensions and provide a selection dialog after the first installation. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 74580] FILEOPEN: Add option to disable import dialog when opening a CSV file (see comment #13)
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74580 --- Comment #46 from xzwvt --- This is a major issue. Those saying it is not significant have never experienced it. Add 100 clicks per day to your ongoing click count and you will very shortly have a different opinion. It is a known issue in healthcare; an administrator will add a single required click to the physician workflow. Analyses have been done multiplying the time it takes for 1 click by the number of physician-times, per physician, per year, and 1 analysis I saw showed a billion dollars in healthcare costs in the US for a single added click (opportunity cost from taking time to do something else, not to mention significant negative costs from alert fatigue). Frequently there is uniform criticism by those who bear the cost, and in-appreciation by those who do not, but everyone who has to face the problem themselves quickly changes their mind. A keyboard stroke is not as bad as a click, but still a significant problem. There is development of carpal tunnel and tendinitis from repetitive motions. With libreoffice, most users will uninstall and use something else without ever reporting the problem on a bug request website (first being required to register an account), so the problem is likely greatly underreported. More persons not using libreoffice because they uninstalled it or stopped using it is not good for the future of libreoffice. I am not clear on why I have to have the same CSV import dialog open for the SAME file. After I have opened a .csv file once and set (or not set, typically) the import settings for that file, why can it not save the settings for that exact same file? This would solve the problem for a large number of use cases. For the users with an ongoing need to open a large number of new .csv files, why not have a global setting that they can find somewhere in Options that would allow them to turn off the dialog? Most users will never see this option. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 125922] Rename "kde5" VCL
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=125922 --- Comment #7 from Michael Weghorn --- After thinking about it for a while, I'd currently prefer to stay with the name as is, if this is OK for everybody involved. While I do understand that "kde5" maybe wasn't the best choice for the naming, it'd rather be confusing to change it now. (In reply to Jan-Marek Glogowski from comment #6) > Just to make it more clear, my suggestion is to rename libvclplug_kde5lo.so > => libvclplug_kf5lo.so and display kde5 => kf5. But in case we rename it, I think it's better to rename it everywhere, since I think it would be rather counter-produtive wrt the intent mentioned in the initial report ("reduce confusion and improve consistency") to have it called "kde5" at some places and "kf5" at others. 'git blame' should be no problem, since 'git help blame' says: "The origin of lines is automatically followed across whole-file renames (currently there is no option to turn the rename-following off)." > > I hope gtk3_kde5 will fade out over time, so leave that as it. As probably will kde5 once qt6 takes over? :-) So maybe that would be a good point to start with a proper name just from the beginning? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 126001] FILEOPEN DOCX Text box with rotated text jumps from middle of page to top
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=126001 --- Comment #8 from Regina Henschel --- Why is this marked as regression? In which version had it worked? If Word exports a rect with vert="vert" to odt, it doesn't use a custom shape and its rotation of the text-area, but uses a draw:frame and sets style:writing-mode="tb-rl" in the paragraph-properties of the assigned graphic style. I think, that is a good idea in principle. But it would not solve the import immediately, because writing-mode on draw:frame is faulty too. Setting writing-mode to "tb-rl" can be used on custom-shape text-area too. There is no need for rotating the area. "bt-lr" would currently need loext-namespace. One problem of the given examples is the combination of "Wrap text in shape" with "Resize shape to fit text". Because of "Wrap text", only resize in direction from first text line to last text line makes sense. So the resize direction depends on the writing mode. A layout, which looks similar to Word would be: Start with the size of the text-area as in original horizontal text direction. Write the text in "tb-rl" writing mode into this area. Adapt the _width_ of the shape, if this is needed. Currently the text-area goes out of the frame rectangle of the shape. This problem becomes visible, if you set a background color to the shape. In case import should be really done rotating the text-area, then width and height of the area needs to be switched. In case the writing direction tb-rl is used, no rotation would be necessary. Currently the horizontal and vertical padding of the border is exchanged. I consider this an error, because padding belongs to the border, not to the test area. The text-area has its own size setting via draw:text-areas attribute. The current solution is not stable. Moving the shape a little bit up/down, creates two totally different layouts; both are wrong. It switches between text-area in rotated size and shape frame rectangle normal size, and second, text-area size not rotated and frame rectangle much too high. An additional problem in the given documents is, that the shape height is given as "20% to Margin". "Margin" in MS Office means "page text area" in our terms. In horizontal text direction, the hight is reduced to the height of the current text content. In vertical text direction, the hight has to be fixed 20% of the page text area, because in vertical text direction the adaption to the current text content happens in horizontal direction. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
