[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 32249] When importing PDF with text in it , it will be better to have a easy and fluent option to edit the imported Text

2019-06-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon

(In reply to Justin L from comment #18)

Yes, agree that would be an acceptable way to handle PDF source text runs
extracted from BT/ET blocks, or where /ActualText annotation is present.

But why first extract the text runs into Draw Text boxes, and then merging them
into one or more non-formattable Draw Text boxes? Seems like a different filter
import of the PDF text runs is needed.

Dumping the strings out to a Writer Paragraph object, either in bulk or
interactively, would be more functional. And text runs dumped into a Paragraph
object, would allow assignment of direct formatting or style, with text
validation and word and line break cleanup.

Probably more efficient UI could evolve if done as a pop-out dialog to pick the
Draw Text box snippets, but could spin up a full Writer session and do the
same.

More often than not, folks simply want to reflow the text strings back into
their lexicographically correct sequence without too great a concern as to
original formatting of the source document generating the PDF.

We can't do that with much fidelity to the original source--so why bother?

Our other 'pdfium' based "insert" filter provides the text runs to document
canvas with good fidelity to the original layout. Though the object "break"
there has similar issues to the 'poppler' based import filter for text
handling.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 89573] Can not type non-breaking space into Find & Replace dialog

2019-06-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89573

Clarification: A non-breaking space can not be typed using Conrol-Shift-space
(the documented way) when entereing Find or Replace fields.

In those fields Control-Shift-space does nothing at all -- it is silently
ignored.

As Jean-Baptiste pointed out, it is possible to use the \u00A0 escape with
Regular Expressions enabled, so the underlying search mechanism works.

However users should be able to use the documented way of typeing a
non-breaking space (control-shift-space), and should not need to know Unicode
encodings or Regex syntax to just search for text which they typed into the
document body.

2019-06-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Partially fixed in latest Master: Selected text in the main window is not
longer replaced or deleted if Control-Shift-space is typed into the "Find"
field of the Search-and-replace dialog.

However, nothing happens at all; a non-breaking space is not entered into the
Find field, and you can not search for it typed that way.

While those are (mostly) Chinese characters, they don't form any meaningful
words or sentences. So I suspect it's not a message intended for the user, but
rather some binary data that got wrongly interpreted.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 32249] When importing PDF with text in it , it will be better to have a easy and fluent option to edit the imported Text

PDF_import_testDoc.odg: exploring what combining textboxes could look like

I agree with Stuart's conclusion that monkeying with import to make larger
textboxes would be disastrous. So I only see one reasonable option and that is
a function that allows a user to combine selected textboxes into one textbox.

However, the results won't be pretty. Each character attribute change (size,
bold, font, etc.) becomes a separate textbox, and there is no way to identify
whether that ends the paragraph or not, although some content analysis
guesswork could approximate the majority of cases I guess. In any case, a LOT
of cleanup would be needed to reformat the text, since each character run is
treated as a separate paragraph and all paragraph spacing information is
missing.

The other option is to force the user to create their own textbox and
copy/paste the text from the PDF itself, but in that case all the character
properties are lost. So there does still seem to be an advantage of
consolidating textboxes into one, even if many excess paragraph markers need to
be deleted.

I was wrong. When a filter is set, it is coloured, but to my eyes, dark blue

Can it be made obvious, eg black and red? Or colour the whole box, not just the
arrow?

Sounds like the 3 members of the UX team discussing this issue missed a major
point. Suggestion 1 is not some hypothetical, dream feature. It 1 is precisely
how Excel has worked for decades and it supported by both XSL and XLSX formats.

Users coming from other spreadsheet software expect to be able to order the
conditional formats (not just inner conditions). Since the original report was
overly broad, I propose we limit this report to just the first suggestion:
adding the capability to re-order outer conditions.

The current XLSX importer reverses the order of outer conditional formats. If
you save as ODF, there is no way to fix this issue without recreating the
conditions. Allowing re-ordering would improve interoperability and is the
behavior that users expect. See attachment 114686 for an example of how this
feature would be useful for fixing import errors along with giving LO users a
feature that Excel has had for years.

I know it's an enhancement, the problem is if we add support for this formula
in writer, others might want to have other formulas supported as well, and in
the end, we add support for all of them in Writer, which is not what Writer is
aimed for... My take, WONTFIX

Not clear there is an issue here.

If focus is out of the Draw Text box object, a click on the Text box will
either drop into text cursor mode (border grabs not enabled), or will drop into
the Frame of the text box (border grabs present).

Hunting around with mouse pointer is only needed when in the text cursor mode,
and I agree it is annoying.

But, isn't it a simple work flow to click back on canvas, releasing the Text
cursor, and then back into the Text box--just a bit further from text? You'll
have the exact active object to work with with out the visual clutter of
showing the object Frame for all text boxes..

It was an enhancement request, but agree the use case is weak as we already
provide the limited preview in the Character dialog.

Applying via mouse click, rather than a dynamic wheel scroll as requested, is
justified--bcz scrolling a live preview would be a horrible performance drag
waiting for canvas repaint to move onto the next selection.

In other words, with forced click selection, the UI behavior and UX can be
assured.

And current "non-scrollable" selectionfunction supports both direct formatting
(against selection), or of entire document (against styles by modification).

IMHO => WF

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 126139] New: Outlining Text and a Color Fill function

2019-06-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=126139

Bug ID: 126139
Summary: Outlining Text and a Color Fill function
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.2.4.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Draw
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: patman1...@comcast.net

Hello, I would like to see the text outline, if there is one, more broader than
is is. Is there a way to increase the size of outlining text or to change the
color of the outlining, because this would be helpful in designing
applications. In the early 90s there used to be something called WYSIWYG (What
You See Is What You Get) in word processing and Image editors, I am not
implying copyright infringement or anything, but older software, like GEOS,
Graphic Environment Operating System) and geoPaint (full function Image editor)
had the ability to color-fill any blank space of your converted your enlarged
text into an image, even the space between the text outline. I tried to do
that with Draw and had difficulties achieving the desired effect.
