[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 76258] Filter by Colours in LibreOffice Calc - Enchancement

2020-04-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76258

Agreeing with that which others have posted, this is an important missing
feature. The ability to sort and filter by color is a feature many casual users
take advantage of in similar software, especially in conjunction with
conditional formatting. This may be deemed absurd by advanced users and data
scientists, but to a casual user it can help to visually organize the data and
helps them manipulate data with greater ease. Is it so incredulous to cater to
a novice user without bemoaning about how they're "doing it wrong"? In my
opinion, the absurd thing is to lecture casual users about the follies of
format-based filtering and sorting, as I've frequently seen users do in
AskLibO. A user is not a developer. It isn't a bad thing to make software
easier for them to use.

I use OpenGL but it's not working. I want use this pencil on slide in the

in other computer. But it did not work in there either.

2020-04-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107223

Dear Mark Hung,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:
https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/irc.freenode.net/#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 132209] New: When copy/pasting objects to another slide, if text extends beyond the object boundary, the copy will not be in the same place as the original, otherwise it will.

2020-04-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132209

Bug ID: 132209
Summary: When copy/pasting objects to another slide, if text
extends beyond the object boundary, the copy will not
be in the same place as the original, otherwise it
will.
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.4.2.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Impress
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: mrcuri...@tutanota.com

Description:
Normally, when you copy and paste an object to another slide, it pastes in
exactly the same position. However, if you resize an object such that the
object's boundaries are smaller than the text in the object, then when you copy
the object to another slide, it moves. Very annoying!

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Look at enclosed example. The object on the left will copy and paste to the
same position in slide 2 as it is in slide 1.
2. The object on the right (which has been resized to smaller than the text
area but is otherwise identical) will NOT paste into the same place on slide 2
as it is in slide 1.
3.

Actual Results:
Object on the right in the enclosed example (which has been resized to smaller
than the text area but is otherwise identical) will NOT paste into the same
place on slide 2 as it is in slide 1.

Expected Results:
Objects copied from one slide should paste onto other slides in exactly the
same place.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
May happen in earlier than 6.4.2.2rc

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 127170] Clarify clock time (HH:MM, MM:SS, ...) and duration time ([HH]:MM, [MM]:SS, ...) formatting in help; (ignore the MM month vs minute discussion)

2020-04-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon

I always wonder, why people complicate simple things, e.g. using floating point
arithmetic for values, which are natural by default. This is simply "breaking"
good data on your own. But even so, why on earth multiply beings, instead
follow Ockham's razor?
In the considered topic in my opinion there is no need to maintain two time
formats, one for duration, and the other for time spot - which easy leads to
confuse them and make a risk of "improper use". Not saying about compatibility
across spreadsheets. Just to simply assume that when there is simple, single
date value in cell we compute it traditionally, i.e. like (let it be) time
fraction, but when some kind of performing action takes place (subtracting,
adding, multiplying, etc.) - rounding the result in the [HH]:MM flavor. All
this with single format "HH:MM:SS".

As I said before, I couldn't reproduce it even on the version that it crashed
on, let alone after updating it, since I don't know the exact steps.

I can't or don't know how to reproduce it.

This will probably not be resolved alone, but I think may be of some help in
the future if similar bug occurs, in knowing which actions to try.

@ Heiko:

Please doublecheck this issue from an UI perspective. Question is whether using
dropping down modal dialogs is intended or a regression.

To compare I attached another screenshot 3, which shows current behaviour, and
a strawman (created with an image editor), which shows correct result of a
dropping modal dialog attached to window frame.

Issue has to be fixed urgently, because it is a blocker for LO 7 on macOS (at
least from my point of view).

As I understood the big part is the UI, would it be possible to add the Styles
part to the template file in a first step and in an second step make the
settings from the template file available in the styles sidebar?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 89369] Add support for drawing styles (shapes and textboxes) to Writer and Calc

2020-04-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89369

So it look like an old enhancement what's going on since 2015?

I start add shapes to the gallery and the shapes will have style support see
Bug 132138. The benefit will be that in draw and impress all the gallery shapes
will follow the style of the draw/impress template so all gallery items will
fit perfect into the global template setting (cause the gallery items use
Default Drawing Style and Accent 1, ... drawing style).

In writer all the sexy gallery items will be imported with the not so sexy
Tango:Sky Blue 1 and Tango:Sky Blue 2 colors. If there will be Drawing Style
support in writer/calc we can define black/white for the default drawing style
which cause the benefit of sexy gallery items AND the default shapes want be
hardcoded Tango Blue any more (or even better shapes will use hardcoded Tango
Blue as long as there is no Drawing Style defined). So we can solve not only
fix this style support bug, we are than also flexible with the Tango Blue.

@maxim how would it be possible to define drawing styles in writer/calc?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 127170] Clarify clock time (HH:MM, MM:SS, ...) and duration time ([HH]:MM, [MM]:SS, ...) formatting in help; (ignore the MM month vs minute discussion)

2020-04-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=127170

@jarko: I have several spreadsheets I use with different versions of
LibreOffice. If I open them with an old version, I see correct values. Using a
current version, I see wrong values. I use both versions to change the
spreadsheets. It does not matter from which version the spreadsheet comes from:
A current version displays the wrong values and I see the right results when I
open it with an old version.

This is consistent with my assumption that the rounding mechanism has been
changed such that it may display unexpected values even cases where the value
to display is the best possible approximation of the exact value. If this value
happens to be less than the exact value the round down mechanism will round it
to the next rounding point below. A user will experience a kind of pseudo
random behaviour showing about 50% correct and 50% wrong values. I don’t accept
the wall clock time argument here as the time difference in question is so
small that I never ever will notice this difference on any wall clock.

@Mike Kaganski: I fear explaining why I disagree with your short statement
"This is totally wrong" requires some lengthy explanation and that we are
discussing how to reinvent the wheel. There is a de facto industry standard
that is decades old and works in practice. It works despite the fact that it
uses floating point numbers which in general cannot represent time values
exactly. This standard has a lot of deficiencies but I think there is no room
for substantial improvement. Any change will break a lot of spreadsheets that
rely on the very features of this standard, e.g. the way rounding is done. So
we can only document how we understand the features of the standard but should
not do any substantial change.

Assume there is some user who wrote a spreadsheet some years ago. The results
should be in a format what you now call DURATION format but the standard only
offered what you now call CLOCK format. Knowing the rounding trick the user
will add 0.5 of the relevant unit before a value is displayed and will get the
expected result.

Would you do this user a favour if you change the rounding behaviour to the
DURATION rounding this person actually wants? No: After the change the
spreadsheet feeds the wrong values into the rounding mechanism and the user
will see wrong values and will probably spend a lot of time to analyse and to
fix the problem. Or worse: will not notice the problem and run into trouble due
to the use of this wrong information. How to handle a situation where some
users want to exchange spreadsheets but use different versions of LibreOffice?
Should they write macros that check the version of LibreOffice and change the
contents of the cells according to the rounding that the current version
offers?

Having to manipulate numbers to prepare them for display is a common problem
that is not limited to the formatting of time values: The available formatting
mechanisms may not provide the format you need. Therefore you manipulate the
values before you display them. You may multiply a number by 100 if you don’t
have a percent format. In other situations you may use functions like CEILING,
FLOOR and ROUND and a couple of others. For time calculations you might think
of using functions such as SECOND, MINUTE and the like. But I think their
semantics is so ill defined/documented that I don’t use them.

There may be a conceptual difference between duration and wall clock time. But
I think it is both a strength and a weakness of this industry standard that it
does not distinguish between these two concepts: Anything is a float and it is
up to you if you interpret this as a duration or as a point in time.

In my previous post I forgot to mention a few assumptions that I think should
be documented in the help information, provided I am correct: The time
representation is based on the assumptions that one day is 24 hours, one hour
is 60 minutes and one minute is 60 seconds. If I am not - the correct
information should be documented.

Due to these assumptions there is no need to distinguish between wall clock
time and duration. Unfortunately these basic assumptions are wrong - that’s why
they should be documented. There are days that are 25 hours, 23 hours or 24
hours + 1 second long, and there are minutes with a length of 61 seconds. This
happens on days when there is a switch between daylight saving time and
standard time or on days containing leap seconds. Now the distinction between
points in time and durations becomes relevant: It is not more the same if you
add one day or 24 hours.

Just a few hints how this kind of problems is solved elsewhere: I think Java
has what I would consider three generations of date and time systems. They
started with a java.util.Date class and some related classes such as
java.sql.Date. I think the basic concept is roughly the same as the date and
time system used in

YY-MM-DD HH:MM *is* the default date+time format in the hu-HU locale.
Check with entering =NOW() in a General/Standard formatted cell.

Why does Excel display it in a .mm.dd h:mm format?

Thanks for explanation. Sorry, I'm normal LO-user, not a developer, have no
systematic backups of earlier file versions (at
AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\backup there are 100's). And the "Â" in
"°Brief formal_AdrB.ott" is unknown to me, I don't use it here.
Very interesting I found your focus on file locations. data base files here are
stored in D:\Dokumente\LibreOffice\Datenbanken and templates in
D:\Dokumente\LibreOffice\LO-Vorlagen. In order to generate an anonymized
version of my addresses from TB for uploading, I converted the adressen.odb
into a dbf database and adapted it for test purposes. With this database (now
without reference to the TB address book) and the letter template already used
in the same storage locations, I was only able to reproduce the reported
crashes, even before trying to save the document.

2020-04-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon

It seems protection isn't well taken into account in sidebar part, see
tdf#57102.
I gave a try but failed to understand why no error message appeared.

I think we should first fix sidebar bugs before adding new features which will
be half broken because of sidebar.
Remark: there's also API which hasn't been taken into account (see
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43535#c17)

I agree. I use footnotes *all* the time, but I've never once needed a toolbar
to navigate between them. Why can I control exactly what my toolbars look like
except in this one odd (and useless) case? It just adds clutter.

My partial solution is just to dock the navigation bar next the standard one,
but it's still annoying when the toolbar appears in the blank space when I add
a note in a new session (and I even did what Ljiljan above did: removed all the
icons from the bar so it's just the toolbar handle that appears!). Again, just
more clutter.

gContactOOo is just a personal project which forced me to use hsqldb 2.5.0.
The goal is to use LibreOffice as billing or correspondence tools, namely to be

Thanks a lot!
So the Excel documentation is incomplete and it's more like ODFF says for D1
(with example and "or similar") and what we implemented so far, but still the
differentiation between D1 and D4 is somewhat a mystery to me. Maybe D4 is
*only* for formats where M precedes D in a MDY date(+time) format, and D1 is
*only* for formats where D precedes M in DMY. That would make sense with your
list. And the D4 example would be wrong in the ODFF. And leaves no choice for
YMD.

Maybe we should just introduce D0 for the YMD order (D10 isn't a good choice as
it is 3 characters instead of the other 2), and rework using the simplified
predefined index returns. Actually the D1 vs D4 (and then D0) and other Dx
returns could be used to determine how to parse a date display string if those
actually follow the DMY vs MDY vs YMD order.

I'll try to take a stab at this.

Btw, it's news to me that Excel allows these [$-x-...] and [$-ru-RU] and
[$-ru-RU-x-...] language tag modifiers. Are they saved the same to document
storage?

Ok I could reproduce this. There's also nothing displayed when trying on sheet1
whereas I should see it.

It's also possible to crash the document. Pressing Enter a view times + UNDO.
However, the 90% change hitting a layout loop first

prrvchr: it seems you'd like to contribute to LO, great!
However, don't multiply tasks, you already submitted tdf#132195

Focus on one task and start from the beginning:
retrieve LO code then try to build it.

I can't judge here but before telling this you should begin from start.
First step: retrieve LO code then try to build it.
