The topic was on the agenda of the design meeting.

The alternative to just clearing the text field is to have a checkbox "[x] Use
title" and enable the input respectively. It improves consistency, clarifies
the behavior for novice user, and makes the label "Type and Title" more
appropriate. Plus, we have enough space and the enhancement is an easy hack.

Code pointer:
* add the checkbox to sw/uiconfig/swriter/ui/tocindexpage.ui
* add variables and logic to sw/source/ui/index/cnttab.cxx; likely in
FillTOXDescription() rDesc.SetTitle(m_xTitleED->get_text());

If the category Styles cannot be used a similar name like "Style Functions"
works as well.

That would be better.

That being said, I think it's even better that the initial value of the dialog
is "Empty the contents of the hidden cells".
Changing the default value is different from removing the function.
The topic is which one is kinder to beginners.

This is a topic that was raised in the Japanese category of Ask.
I have reprinted the image from there.
https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/calc-noto-sans-cjk-jp/75663

The phenomenon itself is reproduced in my environment, but I am refraining from
changing the status.

Version: 7.3.2.2 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 49f2b1bff42cfccbd8f788c8dc32c1c309559be0
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: default; VCL: win
Locale: ja-JP (ja_JP); UI: ja-JP
Calc: CL

Rather than implementing a feature that disables font margins, I think it would
be better to improve the method of calculating "Optimal Row Height".

Please see the attached image.
As is pointed out, in Calc of AOO and LibreOffice, when "Vertical Text
Alignment" is "Top" or "Bottom", characters may be out of the cell depending on
the font.
On the other hand, in MS Excel and Gnumeric, the height of the cell is
sufficiently widened so that the contents fit inside the cell..
I think that the calculation method of "Optimal Row Height" is different, and
Calc is worse.

No - A3:A11 are formatted Text; and so the data there are textx. Now you need
to convert the cells to numbers (

That does not work for me. Plus, if I check format / Character on the word, the
language for the char run is still USA, not the UK that I changed it to via the
spell checker. Running the spell-check again finds the same "problems".

Dear Bongoman,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 127727] Converting .xls files appears to shift metadata times the wrong way

I can confirm that the bug is still present in LibreOffice 7.3.2.2.

Help - About LibreOffice says:

Version: 7.3.2.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 49f2b1bff42cfccbd8f788c8dc32c1c309559be0
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: kf5 (cairo+xcb)
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

I verified that LibreOffice's behaviour depends on the local time zone (it adds
-4 hours instead of -6 when I set TZ=America/New_York instead of
TZ=America/Denver).

But it is still adding the offset when it should leave the time as-is, because
it's already UTC. (Or possibly SUBTRACT, not add, the offset, if it's believed
that the time in the .xls is local time, and it's desired to store UTC.)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 148832] New: File - Wizards - Address Data Source always overwrites the system Addresses.odb

2022-04-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=148832

Bug ID: 148832
Summary: File - Wizards - Address Data Source always overwrites
the system Addresses.odb
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.3.2.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: i...@skierpage.com

Description:
I wanted to create mailing labels for ONE document from ONE unique spreadsheet
without disturbing my existing address data source. LibreOffice File - Wizards
- Address Data Source makes it look like you can embed an address book mapping
in a Writer document, but it always silently overwrites your existing
Addresses.odb in $HOME.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Delete or move away any existing $HOME/Address.odb file
2. File > New > Text Document
3. File > Wizards > Address Data Source
   * Address Book Type : Other external data source
   * Connection Settings > Settings
4. This brings up Create Address Data Source
   * Advanced Properties > Database type: Spreadsheet.
   * Point to the spreadsheet in Path to the spreadsheet document
5. Back to first wizard
   * make Field Assignments to spreadsheet columns
   * in Data Source Title
 - check "Embed this address book definition into the current document"
 - uncheck "Make this address book available to all modules in LibreOffice.
6. Click [Finish]

Actual Results:
There's a hint of the carnage to come at the bottom of one dialog, "The new
settings you make will overwrite your existing settings"

Sure enough, I now have a brand new separate $HOME/Addresses.odb ! The first
time I did this it blew away

Expected Results:
The wizard(s) make it seem as if you can define the address book data source
for a single document and embed that in it. You can't. I cannot figure out what
the two checkboxes in that final wizard step actually do.

There should be some prompt "About to overwrite your single system-wide
Addresses.odb file. Is that OK?" I actually wanted to keep my regular address
book, but LO silently overwrote it.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

OpenGL enabled: Yes

Additional Info:
The other screw-up is if I go on to try to use this new data source in the
current document, I have to re-enter the field mapping that I already set up. I
may file that separately.s

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 107765] CALC: Switching language during spell-check doesn't change the text's language property

2022-04-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107765

If you scroll out the A1:A4 cells out of the visible range then scroll back so
that the range becomes visible again, spell check gets re-applied for the
visible range with the new language.

To fix this, simply detect the language change when the Options dialog gets
closed, and re-run the spell check for the current visible range.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 148831] New: Can't believe I'm typing this, but =SUM(A3:A37) is providing incorrect results

2022-04-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=148831

Bug ID: 148831
Summary: Can't believe I'm typing this, but =SUM(A3:A37) is
providing incorrect results
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.2.5.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: robjac...@gmail.com

Description:
I have a .x.xlsx file that I use to keep track of my pay by adding up the
number of visits I perform at a physical therapy clinic . . .

In Column A I have a "1" in each cell indicating various visits a given patient
on a given day. Then I have a "Total" at the end where I sum up the number of
"1"s in the column, using =SUM(A3:A37). There are 24 "1"s in the column, yet
the SUM says it is 15.

The column cell format is set so that they are "Numbers."

I have been using Excel and Libre Office Calc for years with no issues and
happily. I must be doing something wrong, but I can't find out what it is.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.I have a series of "1"s typed in column A in a Calc sheet.
2.I am trying to sum those up by using =SUM(A3:A37), the cells A3:A37 that have
"1s" in them. The answer consistently is "15" even though I have a total of 24
"1"s. Even if I change the selected cells to A3:A27, where I have actual
numbers and no empty cells, the answer is 15, not 24 as it should be.
3.

Actual Results:
See above.

Expected Results:
The answer should be 24, not 15.

I have no negative numbers. I have tried deleting all the "1"s and retyping
them. Nothing changes. When you click on the cell with the formula, it
highlights the cells it is adding up, and it includes cells with 24 "1"s.

Reproducible: Always

I would like to add that this issue is also happening in Windows.

The attached image contains the Basic Dialog Editor with a sample dialog with a

Notice how the border of the textbox on the left is flat instead of having the

Notice, that the text lines in the boxes break different than in PowerPoint.
The text boxes have left, top and bottom padding doubled of the value it should
be. The right padding is correct.

I guess that the too large padding reduces the usable line width and leads to
different line breaks. But I wonder, why there is a line break inside a word at
all. "Autofit text" should reduce the rendered font size so that there is no
break in 'Central' and 'longterm'.

Thanks for clarification Rafael!

Alternatively, I believe that adding:

I10N SHORTCUTS - NO TRANSLATE
service:com.sun.star.deployment.ui.PackageManagerDialog

to officecfg/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/Accelerators.xcu (in the
Primary Keys, Global section) would make Ctrl+Alt+G open the Extension Manager,
but I am uncertain if that shortcut would also appear in the Tools menu.

In principle, that patch is configured to apply only to Windows and only if the
pt-BR user interface language was used.

@Leo -- if you want to pursue the possibility for such a change, then
add needsUXEval to the Keywords section and make a CC to:

Great news!
So at least macOS x86-64 LO version can be tested with daily builds from:
https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/MacOSX-x86_64@tb81-TDF/current/

BTW, I didn't find anything for macOS ARM in

If this fix made it, hope it'll be merged soon so it'll be available at least
for 7.3.4 (I suppose it'd be too late for 7.3.3).

@Mike, took these out for a spin. seems well behaved. Will try the Properties
deck as a launcher for the 'Format' menu items once that rolls.

Two "tweaks" to consider in bring SB to sm:

1.) The current 'Elements' panel is positioned docked left--do we want to
emmulate that by forcing the sm Sidebar to dock left as well? As is done now
for the second detached instance of the SB Navigator deck.

2.) The 'Elements' pannel is fully resizable--and while SB deck can be made so
globally with the 'MinimumWidth' boolean from Expert Config--should we have the
SB framework 'Elements' panel bypass 'MinimumWidth' by default as well?

Are you stopping here maybe after enabling a simple deck as a luancher for
Symbols dialog? Seems a good spot to pause... unless you have the cycles for a
more complete refactoring of the dialogs into SB content panels.

Hi! This is a Windows issue in pt-BR. If you press Crtl + Alt + E in any
Windows application, you'll get the ° character inserted.

For instance, open Notepad ("Bloco de Notas" in pt-BR) and press Crtl + Alt +
E, and you'll notice that the ° character is inserted. Hence this has something
to do with how Windows maps shortcuts at the OS level, which overrides the
shortcuts of other apps.

This issue does not happen on other operating systems. I tested under Gnome and
KDE using locale pt-BR and all worked fine. I do not have a Mac to test it on
Mac OS.

My take is that this is NOTABUG.

  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal

 Component: Draw
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: hoss...@libreoffice.org

Description:
Opening some PDF files in LibreOffice Draw leads to the text being unreadable.
The reason is the black color of the text and the dark background.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open attachment 179479 (Linux_Voice_Munich.pdf) from tdf#179479 in
LibreOffice
2. In the settings, go to "LibreOffice > Application Colors > Color Scheme",
then choose "LibreOffice Dark" for application colors.

Actual Results:
The text is not readable, because color of the text is black and the background
is dark.

Expected Results:
The text should be readable. If dark mode is desired, then the text color
should be changed to something bright to make the text readable.

I'm not a developer, so I have no idea what glibc is aso :D

For me it sounds like: "yes, we do have a problem there, but we can't fix it",
which of course isn't what someone wants to hear :D

So, if the memory usage can't be "shrinked" or "defragmented" during runtime,
what about restarting the quickstarter if a given memory limit is exceed and
there are no open documents for an other given time?

For example:

I open a document and memory usage of soffice.bin goes up to 1.2GB.
I close the document (soffice.bin still consumes 1.2GB)
The quickstarter sees that RAM Usage is above 500MB and that there are no open
documents and the process is "idling" for 5 minutes, so the quickstarter starts
itself new.
That way, the RAM-Usage goes down.

Of course that doesn't help anything for people that have documents open the
whole day, but for some that maybe could be helpful?

Standard Filter set to equal blank value

>From the auto filter drop-down, I selected "Standard Filter" and set the third
cell to equal nothing (the value field was left blank. The first time I do
this the UI sets the blank value to "0", so I go back and remove the "0".
The attachment shows that there are 3 possible values and the only one that is
selected is "(empty)", so something is wrong in that the filter reports an
(empty) value but it does not match the Auto Filter "Empty" filter.

Although I don't think a filter should be impacted by the presence of a
formula, I don't want to break old sheets, so maybe the solution is not to
change the "Empty" filter but possibilities I see:
1) Change the wording in the values area of the filter drop-down from "(empty)"
to "blank value"
2) Add an auto filter of "Blank Value" or "Empty Value" to emphasize the
difference from a completely empty cell

At that point, I'm not sure if this changes from a bug to an enhancement.
Thanks for looking into this.

This is about sending mail with merged documents. Setup in Options-Writer-Mail
Merge Email. Addresses directly or with Mail Merge Wizard. Start with Mail
Merge tool-bar. As in attachment 132759.

Send E-mail messages opens "Email merged document" dialog. Fill and "Send
Documents". You get no-title confirmation dialog where LO requires info about
email account with buttons: Cancel No Yes.
Cancel and No are the same, Yes opens Email Settings dialog and it must be
used.

But this is not needed each time, usually it's rarely changes. It is of no use
if info is static. Needs to be changed.

Not sure what's optima. Maybe to add check box "Use info from Options-LO
Writer-Mail Merge" so that confirmation dialog doesn't open if checked, just
Email Settings dialog if not.

No repro with LO 7.4+, test in Linux Mint GTK3.
Changes are immediate for me if set in Options-Writer-Mail Merge Email, or in
the Confirmation dialog.

It is not a bug. Your locale uses dot as thousand separator, and hence, when it
matches the thousand position, the string "0.117" is interpreted as "zero
thousand one hundred seventeen". When its position is not the correct thousand
position (on 5th position from right, as in "0.0577"), it is not possible to
convert such a string into a number, and the string is kept as string.

You need to either define the correct locale for the data, or to define en-US
for the specific columns (if you use scripting, you would need to define filter
settings, as described at [1]).

Yes, I forgot to mention my OS (duh). Windows 10, Portuguese-Brazilian
interface on the OS, same on LibreOffice, ABNT2 keyboard layout. I disabled
every program that could potentially cause a conflict to the Ctrl+Alt+E combo.
Still, °this° happens. :(

(In reply to Mike Kaganski from comment #2)

On the other hand, the scrolling speed is usually (?) determined by a system
setting defining how many *lines* are scrolled at each wheel step. And only
this owner-draw control itself may know how tall its line is.

Let me create a fix then.
