Thanks to all respondents. Followed suggestion to remove 5.1.4.2 and install
5.1.3.2. Problem was solved. This is the first time an update has caused me a

In my case, this might have been a corrupt ods file. I deleted the tab that was
causing the problem, and recreated that tab. The symptoms no longer happen.

Just happened to me as well 1:5.1.4-rc2-2-bpo8+1 on Debian Jessie
Very large spreadsheet approx 9500 rows on sheet 1 and approx 50 smaller linked
sheets.
