Sorry, as font list is designed. We don't see the variants in the font
lists--just the core font. The direct formatting and character style
assignments draw from the font family if present--or synthesize formatting
(e.g. bold, italic, outline, etc.) if not.

I understand the windows font viewer only shows all the fonts of the same type
when that type is opened, but the LibreOffice font selector should display them
all. If there's a lot of fonts of the same type, why only display just one?

This is normal. For fonts installed to Windows system the Microsoft "Windows
Font Viewer" will show font families as a single entry which when clicked on
will show the member fonts.

Other third party font managers can be more functional--I like the Bablestone's
BableMap program, but hold a license for High-Logic's MainType and FontCreator
packages for Windows.

LibreOffice will only show the base font family, and will use glyphs as needed
from the regular, bold and italic font sets.
