No, un-capitalized t at the left

It has always worked like this, tested for example 6.0, 3.5. Can you tell in
which version it worked differently?

Improved steps
1. Open attachment 180483 [details]
2. Edit -> Track Changes -> Record ON & Show ON
2. Select the 's' of six in the first line
3. Type S -> un-capitalized s at the left
4. Put cursor after 'w' in ways (next to six)
5. Press backspace
6. Type W -> un-capitalized w at the right
7. Put cursor before 't' of that
8. Press Delete
9. Type T -> un-capitalized t at the right

Overwrite insertion behaves like Delete + Insertion (steps 7-9). I would expect
it the behave as 'Backspace + Insertion (steps 4-6)

Why? It was working differently in the paste + taste. I use tend to overwrite
text by simply overtyping or backspace/insertion. Less often with delete (but
that's me)

The end-result is now hotchpotch. If you use overwrite, the old text being at
the left. Using backspace + insertion the old text text at the right. Doesn't
make reading correction easier

I principle it shouldn't matter if you did use delete/backspace/overwrite to
replace something. With show changes the result should look the same. But
that's my point of view.

I get that backspace being different compared to delete technically, however
this more about readability from end-user perspective

Testing this a lot (kind of a wild goose chase as I didn't get it at first), I
don't see any bug here. The insertion is done logically based on the cursor
position.

I find it hard to tell, the variation is somewhat annoying; Esthetically and

Indeed, there is a relation to "Bug 149873 - Cursor doesn't move the left after
pressing backspace with track changes enabled in certain consternation"

Currently I am seeing that more than a feature than as a bug, but that
mighbeseen different from a different POV.

Well I obviously forgot so detail at step 4. This about difference between
overwrite, compared to deleting by backspace & typing something else

1. Open attachment 180483 [details]
2. Select the 's' of six in the first line
3. Type S
4. Place the cursor after w of "ways" on the first line, next to six
5. Press backspace
6. Type W.

NOT completely reproducible with sample document and Installation of Version:
7.3.3.2 (x64) Build ID: d1d0ea68f081ee2800a922cac8f79445e4603348
CPU threads: 12; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: de-DE |  Calc: threaded | ElementaryTheme | My
normal User Profile

0. Open document
1. If necessary activate Menu ˋEdit → Changes → Trach Changesˊ
2. ˋClick left from word "six" → Select "s" only using mouse → Type "S"ˊ
   » "S" inserted right from strikethorugh-"s", caret flashing right from new
 character
3. ˋClick left from word "way" → Select "w" only using mouse →
   » Caret flashes RIGHT from strikethrough-"w"
4. Type "W"ˊ
   » "W" inserted right from strikethorugh-"w"

That's all as expected, and reporter's observations not reproduced.

But now close document without saving and redo form step (0)
But in Step (2) click right from "s", rest as per step 2
  » You will not see a difference to step (2)

Continue with step (3), but click RIGHT from "w", rest as described above
  » Caret flashes LEFT from strikethrough-"w"
That's different to (3) above
Now Type "W"ˊ
   » "W" inserted LEFT from strikethorugh-"w"
 That's different from result above, but of course new character will be
 inserted at Caret position.

additional Info
---
a) IMHO everything is correct here. After a newly inserted
   character will be inserted at the caret position
b) As expected I also can't see a regression here. In my tests everything
   worked same in 6. and 7.
   I think Telesto simply accidentally changed highlighting direction
   for "w" hen he switched from 7. to 6. during his tests.

@Telesto?
