Mike Kaganski committed a patch related to this issue.
It has been pushed to "master":

tdf#151117: Process non-existent long paths correctly

It will be available in 7.5.0.

The patch should be included in the daily builds available at

Affected users are encouraged to test the fix and report feedback.

- maybe when the path is not *that* long, it fails in another place.
