After ramping up my workload to 14+ h / day I found no time for bug hunting.
Luckily that time has passed now. 
For this one I updated inbetween to a newer 5.x version and found fewer and
fewer incidents (but I vow it was there), furthermore I went to use real
captions so I could link to the images within the document. 
Not seen this since then (but also not massively looked for it and poked Writer
for this kind of behaviour). 
So I'd close this one for now (and hopefully forever).

PS: I alway wonder what else might be involved in all the bugs - like is it
only LibO Writer or how far are libraries like cairo, mesa/kernel driver stack
etc. involved? It's a bit hard when one's on rolling release; everything's in a
steady flow...

That's true, it would be helpful. 
Currently on 12 h / day write workload, little time.
I changed nearly all captions to have an empty line inbetween so I'd have to
re-set this back to no space inbetween. Also had an update overnight recently
to LibO v. 5.0.3.2; details in 
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87485#c33
So I need to check anyway if that possibly changed something. In the end I'll
put all the parts (> 20 odt files) together into one and then also go through
the formatting and probably change back the captions and have the opportunity
to check again. 
If I find time inbetween I'll upload a file.
Sorry, too much stress currently.

Perhaps you could give us an example document, which displays the problem. I
don't mean your whole thesis :)

Set to NEEDINFO.
Change back to UNCONFIRMED after you have provided the document.
