Its a regression as it was fine in 3.3 and 3.4.

The simple fix to this is to swap steps 3 and 4. Looking at the common
behaviour when using to ctrl to multiselect, you always click the first entry
and then press ctrl after that, so likely this was an intentional change.

@Eike: any thoughts?
